does anyone ever write original music or is it all ripped off. Helen Reddy ripped this off of Cilla Black. I Love the Helen Reddy version a-lot but is identical to this version, however Helen Reddy has a higher stronger vocal structure then this the original version.
I'm aware that Cilla's was first. However, in the US her version didn't make the top 20 but Helen's did. Helen's version also went top 5 on the Adult charts in America as well.
IF C.B. WERE TO RESTYLE HER HAIR AND LOOK TODAY AS SHE DID IN HER EARLY YEARS, WOULD WE NOTICE MUCH DIFFERENCE? NOW, DON'T GIVE ME THAT "MUTTON DRESSED AS LAMB" RUBBISH. I DON'T BUY THAT. BUT SHE HAS AGED VERY WELL.
Despite growing up in the beach area of sunny So. Ca. as an eight year old, this distinctive melody, arrangement and strong vocal performance by Cilla had a huge impact on me and remains,in my book, the No.1 torch song of the contemporary music era till this very day.
I like the song but not screached (sorry meant sung) by Cilla Black. How she was such a success I'll never know. She'd flop today> Her voice is absolutely terrible and this one one of her better songs...
Just awful on the ears sorry Cilla fans but you know it's true
That this was Cilla Black's only big hit in the States (released over here on Capitol) is a shame. Beautiful song, powerful voice, there's no reason why she couldn't have gone further over here.
cilla black the best lady singer from the 60s what a powerfull song this was i loved everything she done and from liverpool amazing place what an amazing voice fantastic stuff. nice work to who put this song up as well top stuff.

I was in England from '63 to '66 and one thing was clear: Cilla and Dusty were the bomb. I loved seeing them on Top of the Pops, Ready Steady Go and Thank Your Lucky Stars. Cilla's voice is so unique and clear...Love her work. Cheerio !
The Psycho violins really darken this and then that magnificent voice in the chorus building to a crescendo - Its absolutely chilling - Love this so much!
The people that entertained us in this era had something todays people don't, talant!! With few exceptions todays "Artist" use sound tech and other means to make a dying dog sound like Pavarotti (no offence Luciano).

@ NewWorldAhead
"You're My World" reached #1 in Britain on the chart dated 30 May 1964 and remained there for a total of four weeks
Billboard Hot 100 peak of #18 in July 1977. "You're My World" would prove to be Reddy's last major hit.

Cilla did a great job with this song. However, in the United States, the hit version was by Helen Reddy who really sang her ass off on this song.
NewWorldAhead 6 months ago 5
@NewWorldAhead Both versions were hits but Cilla's was the original in 1964. Helen Reddy's remake was in 1977.

@NewWorldAhead I remember this version in the 60's. I remember Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield and Jackie DeShannon coming out at the same time.
