  • nice class

  • :) i cant wait till i start showing saddle seat. i have a american saddlebred who i jump and do english flat work with, we are now starting saddle seat and she looks so amazing doing it!its just so natural for her,ya know what i mean?uhh its awesome!

  • that is so cool! definetly proof on how diverse saddlebreds can be. :)

  • these are arabians :D... not saddlebreds!

  • @Saddleseat09 they r arabianss

  • Ahhhhh.... eq. i just showed at MSU with my saddleseat horse and i am ready to go to region 11!!!!!

  • i love region 14 and buckeye! my 2 fav shows

  • this looks like show hack

  • thats what im doing thins year, equitation. i think in a tux too :)

  • equitation is so much fun you'll enjoy it ^.^

  • yah, ive done it last season :) l ove it

  • are those arabs??

  • Saddlebreds, I think.

  • nope, nsh. she told me in a message :) i ride nsh saddleseat too

  • um nope. region 14 is an AHA show which is arabian horse association those are arabs. def purebred. it's even listed under arabians.

  • great class, Whitney Taylor is awsome she got Reserve Champion with my horse at Youth Nationals in Saddle Seat Eq and HA Park.

  • its just like the feeling of that much power and the fast speed trot, thats the best part. ive been riding saddleseat for 4 years now and i luv it. those saddlebreds are real athletes. i mean could u imagine poping ur legs up like that? its a lot harder than it looks

  • I have to say... I really don't get saddleseat.. I mean no offense... I just don't get it.

  • i used to ride saddleseat. it's boring. i got tired of going around and around in circles. what's the point?

  • it is not boring! i probably just rode boring action-less horses

  • glad you enjoy it. :)

    someone has to.

  • being a dressage, huntseat, western, and saddleseat rider on my morgan horses (yeah i keep busy lol), i find that all the disciplines have their benefits to help in other areas of riding. Being also a youth like the riders in the video, I know it takes a lot of time and commitment. So great job!

  • to the huntseat/saddleseat argument::

i rode saddleseat before i started huntseat, and i have to say i liked it =]

the only thing i didnt like was the flat saddles. [the dont have any knee pads]

but i started huntseat because i wanted to jump.

  • This is very natural for this breed of horse. I have an arabXsaddlebred and he trots like this around the pasture and he is barefoot. No fancy shoes at all.

  • is he registored as a NSH or both arab and saddlebred? Just cerious

  • He is only registered as an Arab I think, but it would be possible to register him as a saddlebred or a NSH but it costs quite a bit for an adult horse.

  • why is it that it costs more for adult horses to get registered?

  • No idea. :) I looked into it once and it cost about $200 for a foal I believe but to register my horse who is 9 it would have cost $500. Since he is already registered as a Half-Arab and the only breed shows I am probably going to do are Arab shows it didn't seem worth the money to register him as a saddlebred or a NSH.

  • oh okay I was just cerious because I am thinking of buy my first horse soon and I wanted to know this stuff first! Thanx

  • i know everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but if you know that people who ride saddleseat will be watching this video, do u think u could possibly leave your negative comments to yourself . i think that would make it more pleasent for everyone.

  • Ive been reading the comments about the saddle seat verses hunt messages and must say you all look wonderful. I showed equitation until 91. Wow Im giving up my age!lol.. The suits are much better today and compliment the rider in ways I could of only dreamed of. My biggest problem was I'm short so the tall girls always had that advantage, now when I watch I see more shorter girls winning the big blue! Im gonna say alot has to do with how the suits are tailored and made these days.

  • wusafan, no offense to dressage or anything some of the moves you do are pretty cool but have you watched some of them before it is so boring and you think we look ridiculous look in mirror what we wear isn't any uglier than the getup you guys dress in

  • im n region 9 and i ride saddle seat! ill be n this class at youth this year

  • I just bought a horse. He is my saddle seat pleasure horse. I used to do 10 & Under Hunt, but 13 & Under Saddle Seat is more fun!

  • ohh no it doesnt distort the gaits!!im suprised to hear that from a dressage rider! saddleseat is WAYY more natural for the horses used, particulary saddle breds, for instance look up the video "the amazing american saddlebred" and in there they talk about the naturalness. ive been around the foals ALOT and i can tell you when they are prancing around, with their feet up, head way high and tail in the air, i can see saddle seat rite there.

  • oh yeah...i mean..a friend of mine just got a saddlebred foal named Roxy fom Kentucky...she is under 2 yrs and hasnt been trained yet...but when you let her loose in the field...she is already picking up her legs like the Champion we hope she can become!

  • okk kwl!

yeah. you should try telling that to automedon20...or something like that loll

  • Comment removed

  • umm excuse you and how long have you been riding? it really is't all you people who don't sit up straight over look RIDICULOUS and im pretty sure saddle seat came around before your stickin dressage. i'd like to see you get on one of those arabians and look that good.

  • nah actually dressage came way before saddle seat..get your facts straight please and your discrimination of horse sports doesn't help..i don't like western much personally, but i don't go around saying 'stinkin western' to western riders..it shows poor showmanship..

i don't ride, just love watching, and I like both so I'm not on either side of anything. I do have to say I prefer Dressage, but I love watching high action of horses too in classes like these =]

  • uhhh nooo you all are the ones who look absolutly ridiculous, and no it is not more attractive! its ugly! have you looked at your self before a show or whatever you stupid dressage people call them??? i guess not if you think you look attractive!

  • Wow, you're a complete dumbass wusafan. You have no videos so you can't really be talking about your so-called riding. Just because they sit straiter doesnt mean its "funny" weirdo. "No wonder saddle seat isn't in any big shows" Do you realize that saddle seat has some of the beggest shows in the world? Umm ohh dressage is more natural than saddle seat? hmm...i dont recall seeing any horses hyperflexing themselves doing halfpasses in the field, but maybe you have.

  • So both sports have their natural and unnatural sides..fighting negative with negative makes you look bad..

  • I'm not fighting negative with negative, I'm fighting lack of knowledge with fact. Please do mind your own business. Thanks!

  • oh please....its hard to keep a straight face watching saddleseat...you look insanely ridiculous. i hope that it no one ever stops riding it though-because it provideds endless amusement for people who can actually ride and look good. and for the record, anyone who rides with those freaking ridiculous clothes is the real dumbass.

  • Yep, I know. I barrel race & pole bend now. ;)

  • Well the shows itself is suppose to provide entertainment to the crowd. As opposed to show jumping and dressage where people just sit there quietly and tense. I recommend you try and ride a saddlebred, because what you call riding on just any other horse, won't work on them. Hunter/Jumper & Dressage requires the riders to have a slightly more foward seat, and lowered hands, where as, if you were to ride like that in Saddleseat, the horse would just take off. And the outfits, its your opinion.

  • um yea you can't talk. those riders are doing an incredible amount of work. in dressage its the horse that does most of the work. also you can't go ragging on other peoples form of riding just cuz your mad that you can't do it. the reason that it's not in the olympics is because nobody has tried to put it in the olympics. not to mention saddle seat has big shows and defianatley alot more that dressage does nobody wants to hear any bullshit from somebody who dsn't know what they're talking about.

  • hahaha...they may be doing a lot of work-but to what end? all that to look like a moron? mad because i can't do? thank god i can't ride like...i'm so glad i know how to ride and look good!!! they probably did try to get into the olympics, but the committees probably laughed their asses off. the only reason they would ever show this type of riding is for the amusement of the general public.

  • once again you really don't know wat your talking about, saddle seat definatley came before dressage and is held in higher regard than anything you can do. and actually do you know how many people love watching saddle seat horses? i don't see any people lining up to go watch a horse do stupid tricks.

  • Stupid tricks? Actually, movements that are extremely hard to do and only after actually learning how to ride. something that you ought to learn how to do. and dressage def came before your half assed riding. maybe you should get your facts right. and i'm sure people do love watching it-for the same reasons that people love looking at car accidents as they drive by.

  • actually i have been riding for 8 years thanks. oh and how do you feel now that some body is insulting how you ride? exactly you don't like it. so you should really just learn to keep your mouth shut. oh and by the way nice job making your self look like a jerk by implying that you find car accidents entertaining.

  • hahaha...what are you-13? and i don't really give a crap about people insulting how i ride...especially since you have no idea what I look like on a horse. however, i can tell from your dumbass comments that you look like an incompetent moron. and i didn't say that i find car accidents entertaining, i said that some people do. maybe you should should your mouth cause its clear you're an immature idiot

  • actually no im not thirteen just FYI and BTW i said that you IMPLIED that you thought car accidents were funny. learn how to read. oh wait my bad that word is probably a little hard for you to understand. and how i talk doesn't effect how i ride. it's quite obvious to me that you don't know wat your talking about. why dont you go have your little love affair with mia ham and not bother me anymore?

  • oh I'm sorry...i thought that only someone that acts so immature would be 13...i can see that you must be 11 or 12 cause even a 13 would have grown up at this point. and no it's not that big of a word at all, unless you're in the 5th grade. and how you talk shows how much of an idiot you are. and i'm guessing if you ride saddleseat you can't ride for crap either. hahahaha...sorry that last comment was actually funny :)

  • ok yea wat ever i don't need to hear a bunch of crap from someone as daft as you. well obviously you are in the 5th grade because you don't know what that word means.

  • yeah saddleseat came before dressage and it has more participants than dressage also u should be nice because people will get offended when u talk like that and when u talk about saddleseat how would u like if i said dressage does bad things to their horses? Which btw thety do

  • EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!!! are you really that stupid OMG saddleseat is harder then it looks i like to see you ride saddleseat on a 2 year old five gaited show horse!!! And if you manage to stay on then you can say whatever you want but you would fall of in at least 2 seconds!! the horse would be like! screw this i can take advantage of this person and take off on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i know for a fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ( wusafan ) Well if your so obsessed with your type of riding and think you are so much better than us saddleseat riders, get your sorry ass back to Europe. This is America and saddleseat is considered the saddle of this country along with western. If you don't want to pay for plain tickets to Europe then just shut up and deal with our saddle, it is the American way after all. So suck it up, bitch.

  • the way of this country? please...grow up and get a life. and i don't really care how awesome you think you are. and western is a ton better than saddleseat...western is the saddle of this country and saddleseat looks ridiculous in everyway. i have ridden a saddlebred and she was fine with how i ride...the whole point of dressage is to relax, not be tense. saddleseat riders look like have sticks up there asses and ride so rigidly it looks beyond stupid. the american way....oh please.

  • ya um its a differnt style, we work for perfection in out riding and position. western is no better then saddleseat, well it is easier if thats what u mean, I ride western and english ( I used to ride saddleseat but it got expensive and whatnot) I prefer english saddleseat best, its harder then western and i like having a changlenge

  • I agree.

These horses do not look relaxed and happy at all. If saddleseat were natural to the horse, why do they need curb bits with 8" shanks and built-up shoes?

  • um have you looked at their ears?? theyre almost constantly up. the last time i cheaked that meant they were happy. what they do is natural. ive seen them turned out in the winter. they do the exact same thing. the shoes and bits are not harmful AT ALL they merely correct problems so the dont get hurt by over stepping for example. so please dont hate!! its not cruel do some research(by credible sources)

  • i hope you realize that the syle of western riding never originated anywhere in North America. The style came from ranching and warfare traditions brought to the americas by the spanish conquistadors. However, saddleseat developed here in america therfore making it much more the saddle of this country than western. I'm not saying which is better i'm just trying to make a point. also, why can't the diciplines just get along? no ones convincing anyone so let's end this here.

  • could not have said it better

  • its actually 14-17, not 17 & under. i won the 13 & under that year. my sister is in this one.

    just a correction

  • it rocks i have great equitation skills!!!!!!!!!

  • ok.. thats great 4 you? lol

  • I just had my first saddle seat lesson today. It was A LOT of fun! I ride hunter but its nice to have a change.

  • I'm just beginging to do saddle seat.. I used to do hunt seat.. If anyone has tips please share them with me!! Thanks!! I love saddleseat so much more than hunt seat my body is more natural... I guess you could say..

  • haha yea ii used to ride hunt and it was fun but i started riding saddleseat and it so much more natural for me! plus i like sitting up straight i do it automatically cause i have scoliosis so my spine isnt completely straight, so its good for that! =p

  • Thats awesome! Maybe we could exchange tips if we ever have any!! Yeah, It will probably help with your spine. Its so much fun! I mean riding, Not the scoliosis that sucks I sorry.

  • ya we can do that =p

    and yea its ok tho.

  • i know how tht goes i rode but never got to show. i want to

  • wow seeing this makes me want to ride saddleseat again . i used to ride in N.C. with the Bergers they owned a mare by the name of WGCH Lady Galyda have u heard of em oh well . neway nice job rack on

  • Yep I've heard of them... Thanks for watching! I myself have not shown since 94 and miss it like crazy. Since I can't afford to ride I film! lol

  • Used to be in the Hose showing business from 1982 - 1990, things seemed to have changed since then, nowadays they wear white gloves, top hats and bow-ties?

I rode National Show Horses (Half Arabian Half Saddlebred and used to show in Class A Horse shows throughout the Northwest region.

  • so did my causin at that time with Cal Poly University if you've heard of it. Cool!

  • i , personaly, would be freaked to ride a horse with that fast of a stride! lol nice!

  • If you ever get the chance try! Its not as fast as it looks. Its increditable!
