I recently started playing celtic music on my guitar (i am all about fingerstyle) and i noticed that they were all jigs and reels so i was quite confused lol. But i love it, the celtic music is so sporradic and doesn't follow chord forms. i love it though. anyways i really like youe flute playing it makes me wanna learn :)
Fingerstyle guitar!! I love that style. I've got all Don Ross' CD and his videos, I'm trying to use some of those techniques in my bouzouki. About the names Reel and Jig, I don't know any story, I can ask some people for you.
oh, that is what i noticed but i wasn't sure if thats why they were called that. Do you know how the name for it "jig" or "reel" came about? It seems kinda random but seems like something that has a story behind it.

Does anyone know of a site that lists allthe "must know" irish reels jigs, that would be most popular/ or one should know?

Try www.thesession.org There're more than the "must known" tunes! But it will be useful :)

whats the difference between a jig and a reel ?!
nathinnizzle 5 years ago
Hi! Difference is within the time. Jigs are tunes in 6/8, and reels are written in 4/4.
