@BLUECHET The last one died just a few years ago. There was an exceptional documentary on the Cold War with this exact clip, I think Peter Jennings did the narration. It was fantastic. The last veteran said that he amongst 3 others were the only ones alive. Touched my heart, but, also made me love this band even more.
Yeah man I just figured out about this band like a few days ago....and i already listen to all there songs on youtube(yeah i know, your probley thinking damn what a bored ass mother fucker....but nah got stiches in my head and they drug me up...so i just listen to there songs....and fucking ZONE OUT MAN ...hahahaha) But yeah man i like there music....
This is the most beautiful song ever. When listening to this, I just close my eyes, and I feel like the mightiest person on earth. (Even mightier than that nuclear bomb)
When I watch this video I can't help but imagine the thoughts these soldiers are having as they witness this detonation. It seems they go from professionalism, to almost child-like awe, finally to a looming grief with a touch of, "what have we begun here?"
@WolfLikeMe7 dont know where you from but if you re from united states ...listen to that ...the united states did nuclear test on US soldiers in the mid 60s......Sad things ..
Listening to their The Ambient One album, I didn't really realize just how incredible they were until I started listening to Atlas and The Memory Stream. On of my favorite bands period.
@WANAGETAWAY It was an experiment to see if they could immediately have troops come in after a tactical nuke to take and hold the ground. All of these people later died a very young age due to cancerous problems.
@scriptfisher It wasn't a demonstration of knowlege as it is of power. All nuclear able countries ran such experiments with certain ground coordinated troops. The need was to hold the ground after a blast, despite the potential loss of life, the troops here were assigned guinea pigs. These were the tests we ran then. Now we know the answers. Whether it is smart or ignorant is only a matter of opinion.
@RepublicofSocialismZ : The mushroom cloud, and the mastery of the nuclear chain reaction it implied, became a symbol of humanity's grasp of atomic physics. It was used graphically and metaphorically in just about every visual medium at the time to represent the awesome power of science. As a cultural icon, therefore, it was indeed seen at the time as a "demonstration of knowledge," as I said.
As this video documents quite starkly, those who ran these tests knew very little.
im sure i read or heard somewhere that their using depleted uranium rounds and soldiers inhaling the after smoke particles after the round hits they still get exposed to some kind of radiation...
I can't understand why I didn't like this the first two times I heard this. I must have been in the mood for something Schnaussian, which this actually isn't, but this is good postrock by all means!
wonderfull
