@BLUECHET The last one died just a few years ago. There was an exceptional documentary on the Cold War with this exact clip, I think Peter Jennings did the narration. It was fantastic. The last veteran said that he amongst 3 others were the only ones alive. Touched my heart, but, also made me love this band even more.

When I watch this video I can't help but imagine the thoughts these soldiers are having as they witness this detonation. It seems they go from professionalism, to almost child-like awe, finally to a looming grief with a touch of, "what have we begun here?"

The need was to hold the ground after a blast, despite the potential loss of life, the troops here were assigned guinea pigs. These were the tests we ran then. Now we know the answers. Whether it is smart or ignorant is only a matter of opinion.
