I'm sure this has already been cleared up, but the "snowman" you guys are seeing when Croc gets poisoned is actually a Japanese character that means "poison." It's exact pronunciation is "do," like "dough." The actual word is Doku. It's abbreviated like PSN for poison.

This actually was a failure on the translating where they outright skipped that move and put them in the wrong places, which is why later you'll see moves like Psychic being called Dig, Surf being Wa-gun, and other things that would have been translated right.

I actually did some research and found out how they came up with the city name: The original Japanese name is 帰郷(kikyou)-City. The first of the Chinese characters is apparently a simplification of 歸, so the full name of 歸郷 in Mandarin pronunciation is, guess what: guīxiāng.

(Having said that, I don't even speak Chinese or Japanese, just used some wiktionary and Pokémon Wiki)
