Awesome. I've been listening to several Dopo Notte on YT, and none of them drew my attention as this video did. Eventhough I have listened to Joyce singing this aria before, she never truly hit me. Now she did :) I'm really looking forward to hearing her in January. Not Handel, but should be pretty interesting all the same ^^ I love this woman. Thanx for the vid, Gudrun!
indeed... her musicality, tone, technique, acting skills, appearance etc. form together a really beautiful person- inside and outside, perfect harmony
Handelian operas are typically powerful, energetic and intense, thus they sound best when performed by a singer with a like character. I suppose many find it offensive for women to express any character at all, let alone that of a Handelian hero. Personally, I would love to hear her sing this in my shower. Preferably, for ever.
thanks Gudrun. Just one word: I envy you so much :o). Just kidding! I do thank you for always sharing this wonderful baroque performances with those who cannot be there, it''s really kind of you.
Yes, Kirchschlager's CD is sublime. She seems to miss the limelight that Kozena and Joyce have attracted. I love all 3 as well as Vivica Genaux's CDs, but I think Joyce takes the prize now. I still can't decide between Venice Baroque Orchestra/Marcon vs Les Talens Lyriques/Chrisophe Rousset...they both are stunning.
Don't forget Sandrine Piau's Handel disc - it's a strong rival for the greatest ever Handel recital disc alongside Joyce's :)
IT WASN"T SOLD OUT?!?!?!?!? Madness!!!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you Guldrun for posting these vids :) As much as I love Handel. I hope her next disc is a Rossini disc :0
Joyce DiDonato is (besides Vivica Genaux) the only singer who doesn't seem to suffer when singing Dopo Notte. Looks like they feel 100% comfortable on stage. They aren't weaker than on CD. Amazing.
Very good take again, Gudrun, not so shaky as my 'product'. Christophe also more amply in the image. Good place you had. Nice to compare the acoustics of both recordings. Thank you too for posting!

Interesting to hear a very different interpretation with more than usual ornamentation, even with the 20th-century-style voice.

I heard Kozena is good too, but haven't heard her.
Some singers [Angelika Kirchschlager] slow it down a ton but still have beautiful voices.
I loooooove love love Joyce's agility with the fast tempo xD
