absolutely, it's great, the cameras take fair quality pictures, nothing to brag about but it's cool, and with the photo album you can connect to facebook and upload pictures. it has wireless internet capabilities, and with Nintendo/DSi ware points you can buy games of varying calibers and download them directly onto the DSi, lots of good games, and the screens are bigger than previous DS models, it's nice. There are so many features, it's definitely worth it.

usually if you do a trade in at a store it won't be a straight item for item trade, they'll give you an amount for what you brought in that you would be able to put toward something else. (unless you bought something recently and still had the receipt)
