This version send me and three frat brothers on a road trip to N.O. in the mid-1950's. We got there but George was on the road. So we listened to George Girrard's (sic) Basin Street Six all weekend.
George recorded this so many time and every one is beautiful, but I still can't find which one is really the best, although i really liked the one with Monette Moore, but that doesn;t count because it's not a solo.
Thanks for sharing. I am now remembering that it was summer of 1953 in China Lake CA, at the Naval Air Statin that i saw this group on a USO tour. I never forgot it I was so moved even at the callow age of 20 years this song impressed me.
This was George's finest composition ever. I have heard him play it live many times, it is musical heaven! Only thing better was hearing him play something else while Sweet Emma pounded the keys!
Stunningly beautiful.

Great, not a virtuoso player but so much feeling and heart.

This made me want to play the clarinet but I was a dismal failure. I bought the album with this on it in about 1960 and have loved it ever since.
