  • Obviosly lost yer carrot slappin' paw!

  • Dear oh dear! Why not leave the roads to the MAD MAX dickheads (not unlike these pull through icons) & lift the limit of speed? Police would then be unburdened. Neanderthals would then rule the highways- "dirt track dimsims" could then flex muscle on the road- if an "accident" was to occur then the living party could claim "parts" if not vehicular, then the head or heads of deceased parties.(displayed on a bonnet spike!) Wake up you gonks. Speed kills more than "P." (for the moment...)

  • You all are missing a very important point in all this. The ICC doesn't pay much and that is a kind of liability insurance in Britain. The cop is going to pay. He was not in pursute mode; never had his lights and siren on. If the cop hasn't radio call that he is in a chase then an accident is on his ass....

  • This is a response to Crashrickshaw. First off: Motorcyclests DO look out for their OWN SAFETY. MOST ACCIDENTS that HAPPEN when a motorcycle, and a motor vehicle come in contact is BECAUSE the person in the car DOESN'T look for a motorcycle when they signal, etc. They look for a CAR. It's the same in this clip.

  • The point isn't the policy. The point is to have the brains not to try to flip a U on a road like that! Cops in the US have to pay for their mistakes.

  • I drive bikes all the time, they are my main form of transport.

If you go into a bend at a faster speed at which you can safely stop within the distance that you can see ahead then it is irrelevent whether it is a police car, tractor, herd of elephants or anything else blocking the way. You would be at fault if you hit it. Simple as that.

So many folks go too fast into bends just assuming the way is clear beyond the part of the road that they can see.

  • In the UK, the National Limit for non urban single carriageways is 60mph (100kph). That doesnt mean that you must go through a complex of twists and bends at 60. You can be at or under the limit at such a complex and still be guilty of Careless Driving.

I agree; the copper should probably chosen a better place to Uturn but it could have been anything blocking the road. I must confess that probably I too have been guilty of this a couple of times; the fact I'm still here is due to luck

  • Doing a u-turn on a bend in a country road is asking for trouble...if it was an old lady then you could understand her making a mistake but a 'TRAINED' police officer needs to evaluate all the risks before attempting a chase and things like 'going through lights', not putting your siren on, doing snap u turns - are what kills 50 - 60 innocent people in the UK every year! yes...that's more in 1 year than all terrorist attacks added together in ten years!

  • Are you serious a bike doesn stop quicker than a car there is a bend where the pig was turning. The point is that the pig broke the law and nearly killed 2 bike riders. You have a split second 2 make a descition and at 100 ks what do you do !!! If pig didnt turn no accident !!!!

  • if you don't do a 100 kph around a corner then it would not be an issue.

  • There's something wrong with this story. Judging from the photo at 2:33, this is an open road with good visibility for some distance in both directions.

Therefore, how did these bikers not see a full-size, white, police car turning around (not pulling out for a side road or otherwise magically appearing)?

I ask because, if they did see the police car, excessive speed is the only thing which could have prevented them from stopping within the considerable distances seen in that photo.

  • That is why I don't like cops. The truth of it all, nothing is going to happen to the cop, and the cop should be up on charges. But, they don't care.

  • SIMPLE , hold cops responsible for there actions ,just like the rest of us maybe ? if i did that turn in a car i would be done for dangerous driving ,why isnt he ? and these are the people who deal with justice , you gotta laugh (unless you were on the bike)

  • a cop broke my leg in melbourne pulling an illegal turn he t-boned me i was doing 60 in a 70 zone,, he wasn't fined though i was informed he had to go to police driving school again. they paid for my bike to be fixed and that was that.

  • yeah, my dad got t-boned by a cop running a red without his siren or lights on.

  • Was it an illegal turn? Here a turn is only illegal over solid lines and those in the video appeared broken.

I'm not saying the cop isn't at fault, but perhaps the two riders are guilty of bad judgment coming around a blind corner at a speed which did not allow them to avoid an obstacle, let alone stop up short...

  • WHAT???...Its the bikes fault??..for going around a corner on a 100kph road at 90-100!!..and you think the car driver isn't at fault for pulling a u-turn on a blind corner??. YES it is an illegal U-Turn! as by law you MUST have a clear view of over 100 meters both ways to do so.But my concern is...did he turn into them on purpose? (stood over him and said..you were speeding!)

Also notice how wide the road is!...doesn't look like a u-turn, just looks like attempted manslaughter!

  • Like I said, this was clearly caused by the cop, but as a rider you have a responsibility to yourself to err on the side of caution.

If you look at the pictures of the crash scene it's clear there is significantly more than 100 metres of clear view in both directions.

I'm simply saying the fact they could not pull up short nor avoid the 'obstacle' suggests to me they were either travelling faster than he's admitting or were not riding with due attentiveness.

  • Yes, your right, it was clearly caused by the officer. but as for 100mtrs of vision both ways??...its damn near MID corner that hes turned! and to turn around, we are talking about a three point turn on a corner! a 100kmph corner!!,(have you tried to stop a bike quickly while leaning?)This was an extremely dangerous maneuver that has put innocent lives at risk! I posted this vid to raise awareness as "I thought" it clearly shows this is a stupid maneuver for ANY driver to try.

  • If you look at the video again, look for the shot which shows the Kiwi Experience bus. That's where the bikes came from 100+M of visibility. He was a bit shady about his speed. I have driven bikes and on a long sweeping bend such as this you'd be silly to be going around 100Kmph. The officer would not have pulled in front of them deliberatley. That accusation is slanderous. To say he wanted to kill them is ridiculous. Wait for the full crash report. I bet those bikers were speeding.

  • Look again! its mid corner! the officer would have to do a three point turn due to the steep edge of the road. I do apologize for the manslaughter comment(a bit to harsh) but for ANY driver to attempt to turn there is just silly.I have lost many friends to car drivers doing silly things and have been hospitalized and nearly crippled by a similar maneuver. I have full respect for the police and the tough job that they do...but what about justice for all? or at least compensation.

  • Police have to uphold the law without fear or favour. So if the officer is found responsible for this accident and the bikers were not speeding or driving in a dangerous manner then the officer will likely face charges. He will not be let off because he is a cop. It doesn't work like that.

  • I certainly don't want the officer to lose his job or to get into serious trouble over this (there isn't enough of them already!). My primary concern was for the victims & there family's having to fight for compensation during the long road to recovery (something none of us would like to go through) Thank you for your time and comments, and the mature manor of all, in discussing this topic. Kia Kaha

  • The outcome to this will be very interesting

  • Thanks for your comment kelly, but I honestly don't think we will see much of an outcome to this, our cops are generally very good, but they have there hands full already with low funding, shit pay and a day job from hell, so investigating one of there own is the last thing they want to be doing. But I am concerned about the comment "you were speeding!" why is the driver trying to justifie his actions that have crippled two people?

  • Yea you've got a good point. I usually always back up the Police, as they are alway's getting bagged, but I do think this is one case where they are in the wrong. "You were speeding" was a STUPID thing to say but they were all no doubt in shock at the time. One thing tho, I don't believe it was done on purpose. Jst my opinion. Cheers mate.
