  • just to point out:

the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms was a pseudo-historical novel written in the 16th century. Most of the popular "3 Kingdoms" related franchises are based on that novel.

The real history of the 3 Kingdoms was similar, but not exactly the same as what you see in, say, this movie.

  • there is actually battles between Romans and Chinese In 36 BC, a Han China trade expedition defeat Roman legionaries at the Battle of Sogdania. The cause of the overwhelming defeat was thought to be that the crossbows used by the Han Chinese easily penetrated through Romans' shield and armour. However, some historians considered that those Romans were POWs captured by Parthians, who later put them on the battle against the Han Chinese. Romans fighted until the last man.

  • Sun Jian was dead when this battle happened.

  • deadasss wat happen 2 Sun Qian and Sun Jian

i love dynasty warrirs wit a passion cant wait

  • China maybe the next superpower...these moives make it easy for us to comply to that notion. wink...wink..

  • It's fitting because during the Han Dynasty China IS the premier world power. Historians generally agree that if the Romans faught the Hans they would have been easily defeated. The Han Chinese drove the Huns from their homeland, and they went to Europe and eventually help defeat the Roman Empire. That should tell you something about the Power Ranking at the time.

  • But keep in mind that the supposed expulsion of the (Xiongnu) Huns, occurred centuries before the "Huns" appeared at Rome's borders. At that time, both Han and Roman empires have already begun to decline.

As for pitting the two greatest world powers at the time, the outcome is not that simple.

  • Just look at the size and power of Cao Cao's Army and see that decline doesn't mean lack of military prowess. Even with the victory at Red Cliff, we all know that Wu and Shu both lost China to the successor of Cao Cao's Wei eventually. Huns decimated Roman legions because the Romans never faced a real army made entirely of Calvary before - The Hans learned from the Huns and improved on it, thus gaining a tactical advantage the Romans never never gotten.

  • Thats a good perspective, but as I said: it's not a simple matter. There are many variables; however keep in mind that Han isn't a horse-oriented culture, but did recruit and learn cavalry methods from their nomadic subjects and neighbors. The agricultural Romans employed the exact same methods when dealing with horse cultures and supplementing their Legions.

Your point works because indiv Roman commanders succeed against barbarians as at this time, ex Septimius Severus.

  • @ibitoshi

um, i woudn't say that. at that time when the huns entered europe, rome had already been severely weakened. the roman empire was divided into the western and eastern roman empire which had civil wars. also, the huns changed when they migrated to europe. they did not use horses extensively like they used to in asia, which was very effective. the fact that the roman empire outlived the han dynasty proves that the roman empire wasn't weak at all.

  • @spearman789 Rome and china traded at times historically. However, even at the height of roman, 100bc-200AD give and take, still would not have enough force or man power on the huns army. Roman didn't even have enough guts to cross over to persia, let alone china. Thats why they stayed around the rim of the medtn. sea. however it would have been good fight in the curiosity world.

  • @muaythai4ko

the Hun army even gave Han china a hard time because of their military tactics to hit and run with horse archers. This is why they built the great wall. Basically the Hun and Mongolian were so successful because of that. Genghis Khan used this advantage to conquer a vast empire. Out on open battlefields they just got the huge advantage of horse archers. Even Alexander the Great had problems against this tactic.

  • @spearman789 you giving random facts that all untrue...

  • @muaythai4ko

oh it's very true. you can check wikipedia on great wall of china. they built it to keep the xiongnu out. if you've studied military tactics and history you'd realize how effective horse archers were. on open ground you're a sitting duck against them. as for romans "not having guts" is a poor argument. they've been able to recover from a defeat by hannibal barca at the battle of cannae. they lost 88000 troops but was able to recover instantly and defeated carthage.

  • @spearman789 again, you giving random facts that has nothing to do w/ with original arugment.. stop jumping around...

  • @muaythai4ko

i'm giving facts about why the huns were hard to fight against and that every country in the ancient world had trouble. second i stated the facts why romans weren't weaklings like you've assumed. i don't see how you can see it as random facts.

  • @spearman789 who said huns were hard to fight against? and How that in relations to how the Roman weren't effective as the hun?

  • @muaythai4ko

lol you need to read more history. mongolians didn't conquer so much if they were easy to fight against dude. how do you fight an army of horsemen that hits and run on open plains?you can't touch them. the great wall of china was built because of how hard it was to fight them. please read my original post carefully. i stated that the huns weren't really the huns anymore when they went to europe. they were westernized. they were hugarians, not huns anymore so don't bother compare.

  • @spearman789 again.. ur idiot! keep jumping around w/ random facts again! Can't you stay focus in a conversation?

  • @muaythai4ko

sheesh you need a history lesson. if you can't relate what i'm stating then there's no point in trying anymore

  • @spearman789 now ur learning!!!!....that you have no point!!

  • @ibitoshi

i wouldn't say that. when the huns migrated to europe, the roman empire was already severely weakened. it was divided into the western and eastern roman empire, which had many civil wars. also the huns have also changed over the years. they didn't use horses as much as they used to. the fact that the roman empire outlived the han dynasty shows that they are not weak at all.

  • Did you know that red cliff2 is comming out soon

  • Looks awesome...Also check out "Warlords", with Jet Li....Its one of my personal favorites.

  • i seen this movie and the sequel

  • Looks excellent. Very ambitious.

  • The original movie consists of two parts, each taking up more than 2 hours. The American version has cut off about half the length to make it into one movie. :(
