  • Anybody else notice how it went through the tiny gap in his legs?

  • He was trying to head-butt it.

  • ahahhah idiot

  • Ho filthy ball!

  • Stupid commentary that belittles a very fine piece of bowling by Chris Cairns.

  • @ATC1810 Mate i think this was a Phil Tufnell cricket comedy DVD

He was shit and so is his DVD.

  • One of the boys in my team could bowl this type of slower ball brilliantly... it was so hard to read and react to, so I understand the batsmans reaction. Still, I would've thought you'd do some homework...

  • when was this?

  • @thealienlover113 - July, '99.

  • Pure class, the slower ball is most under rated and not seen enough for my liking. Got many a decent player out bowled or skying the ball with it. Should be in the arsenal of any fast bowler

  • he doesn't kow how to bat

  • haha, thats classic

  • he took his off the ball way quickly.....

  • lnai

  • What the Fucking hell was Read thinking....!!! Poor chap.....needs some coaching from Bumble

  • Towards the end of his career Chris Cairns had the best slower ball that I have ever seen. Shame about the injuries as IMO he could of been the greatest allrounder ever.

  • @basilbrushnz Cairns was a brilliant slower ball bowler but Franklyn Stephenson is still the best slower ball bowler I've witnessed.

  • @HeartfeltDawn Yeh but we havent witnessed that cos we're not 80

  • phil tufnell - needless, crap commentary. the pictures spoke for themselves. cairns = world class

  • OMG! LOL

  • haha lmao!! A superb delivery by Cairns, the ball actually dipped, it looked like a full pitched delivery when cairns released the ball.

  • Read MISREAD it :p

  • what an embarrassment it must have been back in the dressing room

  • Well read.

  • This is one of the funnyest dismissles of all time. Chris Read, although a class keeper couldn't really bat at test level.

  • @BlueTrueScouse Yea maybe but The worst batsman ever to play test cricket, Chris Martin hasn't been dismissed like that or at least I can't think of a time when he was

  • @Ricoslogger Surely Devon Malcolm was worse than Martin, but Devon's innings were always entertaining. I remember Danny 'the duck' Morrison batting for about 4 hours to stop us English winning a test match and he held the world record for test match ducks!

  • @BlueTrueScouse

Don't you think he is/was worth another go a few years later?

  • oh my word what an horrific accent?

  • RETARD

  • fucking shit accent ?

  • its just like off sinper flighted delivery and its very useful crains was very good in that becoz of his bowling action high arm action more suited to this type of ball and its the key when ever u want to bowl the slow ball make sure u the lenth is full dont give the batsman time to react i took lots of wickets by using slow ball althogh i was used by as part timer by my captain with no shar speed and no swing or seam its the only weapon i had as a part timer and i enjoyed it a lot

  • that is the desired effect of the SLOB ? read a litle about it, make the batsman think its a beamer, then ducks, but the ball drops rapidly landing at the yorker length, resulting in the batsman being bowled :)

  • Hahaha that happend with me in the nets! I bowled a slower ball that got stuck in my hand so it was slower then useual, and it hit my friend trying to duck under it in the helmet around middle of middle hahah

  • Haha! i left a yorker on middle once ROFL.

  • he mis'read' it

  • :) lol

  • the useless english spinner by the name of phil tuffnel is the narrator

  • Interesting to hear Tuffers have a go at Read's batting. Read has scored a bucket of runs every year, and Tuffers never troubled the scorers much.

  • Yeah, Read has not had a fair trot in the team. Awash with 'keepers now though..

  • NZ hav a strong team atm...

Mccullum, oram, vettori, taylor, franklyn, styris, jesse ryder.... n with the return of lou vincent and craig mcmillin.. shane bond from the indian cricket... you kud see their bowling+batting have that extra edge

  • er.. they've lost like every tournament they've played in recent times ... that's a ridiculous statement. McCullum as been completely out of sorts, Oram has done shit all. Ryder was good against the Indians ... but then? ...

  • lol, looks good on paper doesn't it?

but in reality... tut tut tut.

thats why I usually suport england instead :/

  • gieco guy?

  • he did get replaced by a chap that cant catch.. matt prior

  • at the time the comment was about geraint jones, but point taken

  • Actually he was replaced by Geraint Jones, and that's what the narrator(?) is talking about. (Jones couldn't catch to save his life)

  • true, but read couldn't BAT to save his life

  • how?!

  • Did that ball go through his legs?

  • FuckLebs guess what

    FUCK YOU

  • lol he thought it was a beamer only for it to drop like a rock

  • cairnsey had a great slow ball.. he was a great player! NZ seem to blood many allround talents

  • I've never seen a batsman who can hit a ball wherever he wants with such an ease.. Excellent player and should I say a bowler with a lot of diversity... I Sure miss him tossing those balls out of the boundry

  • yep very true, i mean right now we have guys like grant elliot, jacob oram, scott styris, james franklin, nathan mccullum, jesse ryder and of course daniel vettori. and then there was some of the best allrounders like hadlee and carins...

  • Cairns is not fit to be in the same sentence as Hadlee! Yes he was good, but Hadlee was great!

  • what are you being a homo for... cairns was one* of our greatest all rounders. it's not demeaning to put the two (hadlee and cairns) in the same sentence because it is so obvious that hadlee was better out of the two.

don't be an idiot and think that I was tryna make out they are equal in terms of skill, that would be ridiculous.

  • Cairns was not that great in terms of the world though. He was just overated like a lot of NZ players are. I'm not being a homo - I assume you meant homosexual - that is someone that is attracted to the same sex, since I am not, I am not being a homo - idiot!

  • I'm using homo as a derogatory remark... idiot!

No he wasn't, but he still was a great player - and probably one of the finest all-rounders to play this past decade. He was a match winner, so no he wasn't overrated.

  • haha.. Why was he ducking? it wasn't a bouncer !

  • have you ever taken a beamer before? I know I did...I know why he ducked but you don't unfortunately....Go to the pitch and face the wooden ball then you will know the answer....

  • poor chris read, if england had him now they may actually save 100 runs per inning and take 3-4 catches instead of those posers jones and prior.

  • u silly ducker lol

  • great bowl, but poor ..poor batting

  • That is masterful bowling. Its a type of slower delivery called call a slow-lob or "slob" for short. The bowler releases the ball with an open hand instead of driving the two main fingers through the ball. The result is a ball which looks to a batsman like a beamer bowled at full pace - hence the reaction from the batsman - but because the ball has no rotation as a result of an open hand, it sharply drops to an unplayable yorker length. NASTY

  • @Alieaz

Wish I could bowl one of those!

  • @Alieaz

Wish I could bowl those in a grade match!

  • @Alieaz Also used by left-arm spinners including myself - the same way you said you bowl it, but you put spin to the right by pulling on the side of the ball facing you. Sharp, left spin. Unplayable. I once bowled one near the leg stump, it knocked out the off stump for a left handed batsman.

  • @Alieaz V.GOOD U hav alot of knowledge ..

  • @Alieaz Thanks for pointing out the obvious to us!

  • @smillatt2 LMFAO I agree.

  • @Alieaz indeed NASTY

  • @Alieaz thank you, cant wait to TRY and use it

  • @Alieaz

    Very NASTY.

  • @Alieaz it actually stand for, "Slower Obsolete Delivery"

  • @70s80sWINDIES SOD LOL

  • @Alieaz nah you take the sl from slow

  • what a slow ball! chris cairns mastered that ball.. he was such a ledge

  • i remember this..light meter lights on score board were gettin on..there was a light issue..in this series vettori scored a test fifty..and chris cairns kept on bowling the disguised slow balls..and it was funny how brits kept on gettin out..

  • wot the hell is he doing!

  • reubenw59... think you need to give Haddin a bit longer.

Mark Boucher and Brendon McCullum are probably the best wicket keepers out there at the moment. And they can bat

  • Don't forget Sangakkara I think he is the best followed by Boucher and McCullum.

I agree that Haddin needs a little bit longer also.

  • is sanga still keeping though?

  • Yes..he is :) Not in Test cricket though..Prasanna Jyawardene is the keeper for the Test side

  • OK im going to clear this up once and for all.

England wicketkeepers are shit and not 1 of the contenders for the spot can bat.

normally the New Zealand, Aus keepers are the best but at the moment brad haddin(aus) cant catch the ball to save his ownn life.

  • dude i think your being pretty harsh on haddin, he hasnt been around that long and he is following one of the greatest, Adam Gilchrist. So give Haddin a bit longer before you judge him.

  • He doesnt have to be better than gilly but in his early test career ive seen him miss 3!!! normal spin deliveries that have bounced normally and hit the helmet/hat for 5 runs and he needs to sort that shit out ASAP!!!

  • hey nice vid, u should watch my vid of matty hayden.

  • LOL

  • lol chris cairns is the man

  • He must feel like such a dikk

  • that's a pity lads ....chris read , james foster , geraint jones , matt prior , tim ambrose , phil mustard .....& to this mix they keep adding back paul nixon ...who really belongs more to the alec stewart era!than now ....but anyway the odi series with India is over ....as the remaining 2 games have been called off..:(

  • Hahaha!

    That's just brilliant

  • chris read , geraint jones , matt prior , tim ambrose, phil mustard ......

will the real england wk pls stand up!....

  • hahaha

    ur rite mate

they hav had as much luck of findin a decent keeper as australia has had of finding a tru allrounder

  • shane Watson?

  • He would, but James Foster is being held down by the ECC.

  • WTF?!?!

  • That was a craking ball

  • btw u spell jones' name geraint! BUT ANYWAY ITS CHRIS CAIRNS (NZL) BOWLING A SLOW YORKER TO ENGLAND'S WICKET KEEPER CHRIS READ!

  • u silly faggot its kasper are you retarded

  • dik hed

  • er, no, that's Chris Cairns bowling to Chris Read. It's a very famous delivery - try looking for it on google. Your first clue is the New Zealand silver fern on Cairns' shirt... Alternatively look for a photo of Jones (it's Geraint; your spelling is all wrong) and you'll find a picture of a man who doesn't look anything like the batsman in this clip (Read). By the way the whole "dum shyte r.tards" analysis, while being extremely clever, doesn't work so well when you are just plain wrong.

  • lol mate it says cairns to read at the beginning of the clip

  • dumb fucking pakis...

  • chris read can't play for england

  • chris read is the best wicketkeeper in England. period. there is nothing else to say. for gods sake he's now notts captain, is scoring runs like nothing and is the best genuine keeper in england for sure. they guy scores runs too, he scored 240 only last year and is already blossoming with the bat this year. fuk ambrose, we want READ!

  • Nixon is the best because he gloves well and doesnt duck yorkers

  • I never did understand why they replaced Nixon with Mustard. Blatant Ageism! Nixon was comedy gold.

Long term I'd have Read back in though, the search for the "English Gilchrist" was doomed before it began.

  • idk, mustards ok. i'd rather have him than some old guy, but i agree that read is the right man for the job

  • that isnt a reason not to put sum1 in. read is the best with the gloves, and can bat better than nixon

  • I agree on that Read is the best wicketkeeper in England, note though how I'm not saying wicketkeeper-batsman. Read has the best glove in the country, there is simply no escaping that, but modern day cricket demands keepers can bat in something more than a cameo role. Read needs to do something drastic with the bat to replace Ambrose, not saying he can't, but Ramps scores 1000 runs in two successive seasons and can't be selected, I just think you've got to get over it.

  • Read averaged over 60 in his last three domestic seasons, and scored over 1,000 first class runs last year, his improvement with the bat since 2004 has been unbelievable. Unfortunately he's never been 'in' with the England clique. Duncan Fletcher's autobiography is quite telling in that they picked Read, dropped him for the Ashes, BANNED him from playing grade cricket in Australia to keep his form up, kept him OUT of warmup games, then after no first class cricket for 4 months stuck him back in.

  • Why? Because they (England management) wanted Matt Prior, as they always have, and they wanted Read (who the public were backing) out of the way. Fletcher basically admits to sabotaging his international career.

  • I can think of plenty that are better than read you fuckwit!!

  • Love the Tuffers commentary, although his criticising anyone's batting is a little rich- he must have had a silly dismissal like this at some stage. But whether Read can bat or not, he is without doubt the best keeper in England, and probably one of the best in the world. In the Gilchrist-Sanga-Flower-etc age, keepers only seem to be judged for their batting, not their keeping. As a keeper only, Read is better than any of these three.

  • Tuffers is so funny, only time I've ver been able to stand reality TV is when he was on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!"

  • id say taibu is the best keeper in the world at the moment

  • What the haell is he doing.

  • English batsmen= rubbish

  • Not actually sure where Mayotte is, or for that matter interested. But i'm pretty certain when cricket history books are written it won't get a mention

  • huh? oh is that the country im registered under?? LOL.. even I dont know where that is! haha.. I meant the current batsman.. the English batsman of the last 25 years.. there is Kevin.. Kevin.. and Kevin.. haha

  • Mayotte is a little island next to Madagascar. Useful when playing the Traveller IQ flag challenge as their flag has "Mayotte" written on it in big letters.

But no, I doubt they have a big enough population to field a cricket team!

  • well all i can say is its a pretty average delivery, most pommys would defend read by saying cairns is a top bowler and it was the greatest bowl in the history of cricket, actually its just a crap NZ player who bowled a full toss, ponting or hayden would have smoked that crap

  • A crap NZ player that the Aussies feared.

  • Yeah a crap NZ All-rounder that has smashed the most sixes. Piffff. I bet you did'nt even make your school 2nd eleven

  • Your'e right I didn't play 2nd 11, I played first 11. I'm a Cairns fan. There was no player that the Aussies feared more than Chris Cairns. Before the '99 World Cup the Aussie media were almost 100% sure of victory. Their only worry was a NZ team with Chris Cairns.

  • it was a slowerball you dipshit and cairns certainly wasnt shit lol u dont get wisden cricketer of the year for being shit and have the most sixes in test cricket until gilchrist beat it after playing nearly twice as many games

  • Probably the best slower ball i've ever seen. Or at least the only one that has truely stuck in my mind

  • watch the slower ball ambrose bowled to healy....its the best one i have seen

  • miss cairns another all rounder one of best of the games

  • beauty. what a great deception

  • its funny cause neither of the countries can play cricket and if england are to have a hope of winning A match, reads gotta go for good.

  • is this from tuffers duffers

  • my names chris cairns

  • Three words:

    Super. Matty. Prior.

  • Three words:

    Bonnie. Kathleen. Wright.

  • Three words:

    Matt. Prior. Sucks

England should replace him with a new wicket keeper who's better. Going back to the past, I think Alec Stewart has been the best Englisg Wicket-keeper ever.

Also, I think the new England Coach is not good.

  • Three words:

    You.Are.Knobs

  • Three words:

    What. The. Hell.

  • Three words:

    I. Can. Count.

  • Three words they. all. suck.

Pick a keeper who can keep wickets, let your top order worry about batting. Prior dropped a few chances in the test series against lanka. His batting didn't compensate, the dropped catches were more crucial than any lower order batting contribution.

  • geraint jones is a better keeper and batsman he is a confidence player his was low. he'll bounce back besides read isnt a favourite with the selectors, and we all know the selectors have their favourites as it shows the way englands number 1 jack russell wasnt a 1st choice.

  • man he is not a chicken he jus didnt c it that was wat happened

  • He thought it was going to be a beamer, or at least, a bouncer. Cairns just fooled him completely with a slower ball.

  • chris read is good even though paul nixon r the two leading wicket keepers in england chris read will b the futre wicket keeper he is 28 and he is good

  • LOL Tuffers' comment at the end is jokes!!

  • chicken
