@Frenchiebleu22 What about me? Say for example instead of a witch villian, I play as Wizard Waldo on Animaniacs. What would you have to say for my evil performances? Are they good or are they equal as Joanne's performance?
i love the wizard of oz (i was the witch in my skl play lol) but this seems far too show, i know its a show but the film was so nice without the jazz hands lol
I hate this Lion. I might be biased because my best friend played him a year ago and she played him really Jewish. And I LOVE this Witch. She's up there with Roseanne.
Why does EVERY SINGLE LION DO A BAD IMITATION OF BERT LAHR? Why can't they just make it their own. Bert Lahr was brilliant but there are OTHER brilliant choices to be made.
Loved Lahr's performance as well, but it's nice to hear someone else bring this up! The fact that practically every single guy I've seen playing the lion has always pronounced "nerve" as "noive" is one of my particular beefs.
EXACTLY. I've played the Lion 6 times. Twice in the Wizard of Oz and 4 times in the Wiz. Never once did I do an impression of Bert Lahr or Ted Ross. Not that they were't amazing and the perfect choice at the time, but the Lion can (BELIEVE ME) be just as lovable, funny and memorable if you make it your own. Cause when you do an impression of ANY character, all people do is compare you to the original and even if you were better, the comparison is never in your favor.
@MrActor123456789 I have to agree with you on that one. But, there's only Lahr to use as inspiration because there isn't any other actor who did it originally!
True enough that it's difficult to escape Lahr since he originated the role, but I think a true actor needs only the script and research to develop a character. That's not to say that you SHOULDN'T draw inspiration from the original, though.
:-( I feel your pain haha I'm actually going to be doing the role again in the Wiz this summer! So excited. Gonna go in a completely different direction from the previous 6 times haha. I'm running low on ideas!
@MrActor123456789 Two reasons. First, Lahr's portrayal is such an icon that his performance has forever defined the character. Second, a lack of imagination on those having a tough act to follow. But it's up to the director to determine how these characters are to be performed. If the director went with the Bert Lahr imitation, then the blame goes there and not so much with the actor.
When she pops up once more after she has melted it's the best!!!!! i would have loved to have seen her as the witch, she was amazing in this vid!!!!!!!! LOVE HER!!!!
