  • I saw this exact engine once moving thru Princeton, Indiana. What a sight.

  • yeah, this engine just sounds sick. the eco does the 710 no justice what so ever.

  • I sat in this unit when it was at the CAD shops being rebuilt. Awesome video man!

  • looks like a chop-nose GP9

  • This unit is a piece of junk. I was in it last night. It shakes horrible. That little 710 V-8 shakes really bad. The more cylinders the smoother they run. At notch 8 I thought the carbody was going to shake apart!!!

  • How do you fit a 710 inside that little body?

  • Its a v8 to start with--basically a small block. Most of the size is height, longer stroke--talking only about 4 inches at most. 645 and 710s are very close in width.

  • I'm sure the RS-18's are just thrilled....

  • Nice locomotive!!! i cant wait more for the KCSM ECO Units!! greetings 5***** and favs

  • this same engine #7102 was up here in Alaska sometime ago

  • was it running with the GP49's? Or SD70's?

  • AWESOME!!

  • Wierd sounding engine there, i just saw that unit yesterday down here in East Texas, 5/24/09, trailing 2 UP GEVO's and another rare unit i couldnt identify, but there was also a hobo on that train too, wish i had my video camera with me

  • Sounds like my new refrigerator...but much louder.

The unit has been racking up some mileage going from place to place.

  • Yeah saw it in NLR bout that same time

  • I hope these units catch on, these look and sound so much better then green goats or gensets.

  • yah ok will give you that! crpulse300

  • do you have anything with it notched up a bit?

would be nice to hear it sing its happy song.

  • no i don't sorry. The engine was parked after running a test train up the valley and back that day.

  • I suppose it sounds like half a SD70.

  • Are you familiar with an outfit in Canada called Railpower Technologies? They made something called the green goat, and I was curious if they are still in business.

  • nice soun of engen in idile thenks for video it is byutiful sound of emd locomotiv.

  • dobrodošli na

  • There is an article about these new 710 ECO rebuilds in the July 2008 issue of Trains magazine. Only 2 have been built as of July 2008. There could be more now.

  • Great video and 5 rate (thumb up)!

  • It is not a "Green Powered GP9". EMD model designation is GP22. Period.

  • Its not a ex-CN GP9 either. Its a ex CP GP9u, 1637 to be exact. Its been dubed a GP22. This is one of two prototypes, the other, 7101, is a ex KCS GP40 with a similar powerplant.

  • Cool Diesel locomotive!!!!!!!!

  • Very unique engine! I'm trying to get one video of it out on the road with a train before it heads back later this month.

  • Can't get another pic of it now. It left Ottawa last week. :( Gone to Montreal Quebec.

  • "it's been modified by EMD which is a 710ECO engine."

That didn't make sense, did it? I love commenting during a migraine attack. Anyways what I meant was

"It was remanufactured by EMD _WITH_ a 710ECO engine.

  • It's diesel powered, not biofuel powered, it's been modified by EMD which is a 710ECO engine. They come in a 2,000HP 8-cyl version and a 3,100 HP V12. The 710ECO engine is a Tier-2 certified engine designed for retrofit into older locomotives, to make them Tier-2 compliant (and more fuel efficient).

  • It's actually a Tier-2 8-cylinder 710G3C engine.

  • sorry, correction noted.

  • Green powered eh? It's a real shame that biofuel is being peddled so much. In theory it's a great idea but irl it takes a huge chuck out of crops and in turn raises food prices
