"The election is over like in US once over opposition also support the gov. "
Because US is more democratic and they have fair and free elections. BTW, opposition still oppose and veto in Parliament, or they call it House of Representatives.
To be a fair and balanced critic of the pap or the US govt, one has to have a very clear understanding of the legislative structures, cultures and history of both countries, esp if you intend to make a comparison. sdp is notorious for their sweeping generalizations becos they are banking on the ignorance of their supporters in these areas. Oh yes, boring stuff to read, just protest if u don't get it right?
Sure, give us an opposition that is capable of more and we vote for you. Pple are generally adverse to insinuating speeches with no substance. Politicians that don't know how to engage the pple and get the msg across without protesting aimlessly need to get another job.
To add to that, politicians who don't know how to engage their own pple and openly invite outsiders intervention into local politics deserve no respect from their own pple.
Movies shown in the cinema have to go through mda for classifications under the Film Act. I will think that if you need to pay to attend a viewing of a movie, it should not be considered a private event, definitely not the same as weddings. If we pay to see shows in cinemas and the films have to go through classifications through mds, what made this particular movie exceptional? If you argue that it is by invitations only, so are movie premieres.
A law has been broken and the mda pple have been sent to administer it. What crackdown?!! Does democracy dictates that sdp is above the Law? If S'poreans have to mature politically to fully embrace Democracy, then the first one that needs to grow up is the sdp.
okay u're right. it's a fact they are breaking the law.
as for ur view that "to fully embrace democracy, then the first one that needs to grow up is the sdp", that's an opinion to which i do not agree. of course i respect ur opinion. but i feel that sdp is the one fighting for democracy in singapore. They are "unlawful", yes. but if u're talking abt democracy, so many other countries have shown the same kind of resistance because in a dictatorship, that's the "only way" u can change the govt.
How do u propose we "change" the s'pore govt? Someone directed the question to sdp Chee when he tried to run for MP. Go and ask him. If u get the answer pls let us know. The last time when sdp hold a rally, he avoided it totally. Democracy is not about mindless resistances it involves processes that come with responsibilities. If u think sdp is capable of such responsibilities, vote for them. Isn't the act itself democratic? Thailand and Philippines are also democratic countries. Read the news.
Actually honestly i dun think the act itself is democratic. It hinders freedom of expression, and is exclusively practised on opposition activities to "put them down as much as possible". Jack Neo's films are also political-based, but nothing is done to MediaCorp, the state broadcaster.
Btw, protests are legal in Thailand and Philipines, and I've not heard of any film being banned because of political content. (except maybe terrorist films)
JNeo's movies are never political, he has a good digg at local policies and practices and that is abt all. Even then his films are subject to classifications under the Film Act. "One Nation" is a biased political propaganda. If you didn't know the difference, there's no point in discussing to you. One can't ban a movie without seeing it, the mda wasn't even given a chance to view it.
Jack Neo's movie "Money No Enough 2" contains dialougues that include "Are you from the PAP?" uttered loud and clear.
His movie "Home Run" was a depiction of relations between Singapore and Malaysia during a period of time where our ties were most tense because of the water supply issue.
In his clever use of parables to relate the inadequacies of public policies and administration, Jneo has never gone as far as to use terms like "dictorship" or "fascism". Or, air unjustifiable and unobjective politically motivated movies with the intention to bash the ruling party. In fact I believe JNeo has raised the awareness to our shortcomings as s'poreans identifed with them. Jneo is not a politician. Sdp Chee on the other hand has hidden agenda, isn't that obvious?
Yes of course Jack Neo is not from the SDp, neither are his views coming from the SDP perspective. In fact, I think he speaks and argues for the PAP. So it would be convincing that he might join the PAP one day...lol. That's why I questioned the bias shown towards the opposition. Why is it that Jack Neo's pro-PAP stance tolerated? Why is Channel Newsasia's bias in favour of the ruling party tolerated?
I like JNeo's "Just Follow Law" esp that part where he has a good digg at URA, LTA, SLA and BCA in which he cleverly highlighted the inadequacies of public services. If he is pro-pap, he sure has a lot to loose. Instead of making generalization u should ask JN what is his political stand.
Why is it that "Just Follow Law" was aired on TV and not "One Nation"? Both served to criticize the govt policies and practices. Yet JN has depicted experiences in areas we cld identified with. "One Nation" by comparison is simply a biased propaganda with little facts to support its claims with no representation from the current opposition MPs. The latter has the stamp of sdp made with the usual insinuating remarks and generalization.
Thailand is currently in a state of emergency. Twice leaderships have changed hand and yet no solutions. The Philippines has their people power too. What good has come out of it? Those who think that democracy is about mindless defiance, protesting for the sake of doing so are idiots who don't know where they are going.
I agree that mindless resistance or defiance is not good. In fact, it is detrimental to society's health. But equally idiotic is mindless loyalty which we see in some of our citizens. (I'm not referring to you, you are well-read and well-informed)
it's unfair that the MDA censors political material, i don't follow the party much but in this case i'm definitely on their side. The lady from MDA is stupid and incompetent
hahaha.... just post the film on youtube and who cares if MDA gets the copy or not...... by the way, how come I am not invited for the private screening? LOL......
When she asked, "Can I confirm if this is the copy that was played just now?" You guys should play along and suggested to her to have a sit and watch the whole thing to confirm and make sure that it was that disputed video...
Have you seen the documentary? the MDA is being controled by the goverment.. its sad, but true nothing we can do cause some singaporeans just dont care..
so we have to submit a presentation to MDA for censor even it is screen in a private function behind closed door in singapore? can any MDA people shed some light on this issue?
Based on what is observed in this clip, the police did a good job in explaining their presence, which facilitated MDA's entry in a cordial manner. They were also inconspicious and this perhaps ward off further strange clapping and cheering (do pp do this when someone takes things away from u?)from the partisan audience.
If there's nothing wrong with the video?why so defensive SDP?haha..on one side the MDA are not shrewd enough, even with so many manpower..on the other side SDP are just one bunch of ELOQUENT WEIRDOS..they all have the same weird look/attitude..
I must thank the SDP, and in this case, especially, Ms Chee (Buy?) for producing a video that show how civilised and our civil servants really are in carrying out their duties.
This video also accentuated the stupidity of the people supporting them. They said it is a private party and yet they have to pay for it, and all the more, requesting the civil servants to (chee)buy tickets to be able to enter, thereby making it a public function.
Thank you for showing SDP's stupidity to the world.
From the video clip it is obvious that Mr Seow has very little respect for those whom he dislike. Like Mr Spitzer of the USA who took full responsibility for his personal failings, Mr Seow is blaming every body for his own folly i.e. "declaration of non-indebtness".
We Singaporeans are educated and can see and think. Why should we be afraid of anyone? We only need to fear God.
It is obvious that these people are out to embarass the law enforcement officers and in the process embarass Singaporeans too. No wonder Mas Selamat escaped. We are getting too soft. Two minutes and the CD will be switched.
I hope the authorities will put a stop to these type of rubbish.
I have travelled widely and Singapore is still relatively the best place in the world. Sinaporeans respect LKY rather than fear him. Those who fear are those who try to be funny with him.
lol... this video just shows how sad the sdp is... and also make me dont like the lady who talk and talk and talk... i dont like sdp after watching this video...
I don't like the attitude these people took with the MDA personnals, they laughed, they joked, they argued, it feels more like bullying the weak just cause they can outnumber and outtalk them. It's obvious they are trying to make things difficult for the personnals who are just trying to carry out their job. Sure, we are all cynical of the freedom of expression in Singapore, but I am not sure if I'd want to be govern by SDP with supporters being so ridiculous.
SDP and their supporters are disgraceful... the MDA officers are acting on a complaint and carrying out their duties... SDP is a very pathetic party...
Good God, how does Mr.Chee keep pushing on man? The constant harassment he faces is mind numbling. If I were him, I may give up. Then again, that's why there are men like him I guess. Maybe one day in the future, his efforts maybe realized, but I fear that's a long road away.
And no, such a mentality isn't that of a coward but of a pragmatic person. Is THAT freedom of expression so important that you must sacrifice many things for it? Is that worthed the sacrifice? Do you want riots in Singapore demanding for "freedom", disrupting our economy, causing MORE sh*t for everyone as a result of so? (it's a possibility)
You mean be contented when the PAP is earning the money while the most of the Singaporeans suffers? I dun think we want SDP to govern the country, but we as citizens must voice out when the government makes decisions in their favours but not to us.
It is this mentality of yours that makes Singaporeans such a coward and never progress to democracy.
Look at the video, ask yourself, are MDA actions justifiable?
Sometimes laws are there to be enforced. Imagine if it is not SDP, but a bunch of Islamic extremists ppl doing the screening of a "video" that may contain contents (e.g: terrorist-related) which may be a threat to Singapore security, do you think it it wrong and unreasonable for the MDA to disrupt their little "private" function then? This is another valid way of putting the idea across to the SDP ppl, just that MDA was dumb enough not to explain it in a critical thinking manner.
Yes, I agree that the MDA's action is NOT justifiable, but that wasn't the point of my argument.
Yeah, sure, PAP's earning money and people's suffering. BUT, compare it with Malaysia, Indonesia, etc, our neighbours, hell their situations WORSE OFF.
Furthermore, can you really prove they're earning $? Our corruption levels RELATIVELY low. No country's perfect. And ask yourself, so what if you achieve total democracy like the US?
In my opinion, that would be a more dynamic system to say the least. In a society like that, no matter how much you love or hate the cabinet and thier policies, everyone is washed out and you get new ppl who are up to the chalenge in convincing people their worth.
I respect many politicians, but if they aren't representative of what, I as an idividual feel that is relavent, I would be happy to see them leave the scene.
I'm no expert, but I can say that politics is probably an ever changing landscape. So your playing cards need to change man.
How else can you make the most out of any situation? It's like the EPL. Same thing. Beckham was amazing a few years back, but we'll all forget about him sooner or later.
Sorry if this arguement is longwinded, but hope someone agrees with me.
rest of us suffer? how do you explain that spore's golf courses are the only ones in the world 90% full on weekdays? sure they're pple suffering but percentage not that high. but i would like to see the gov giving more to these pple. help them out lah. these pple living in 1 room flats just 3 months never pay cut their power supply. and their 3 months only lest than $100.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well, simply put, the laws of Singapore are bent in a way that PAP gets the bigger share of the pie, yes, though this is unfair, I'd still have PAP over SDP ruling us. What? Ask yourself, can a person like "the above" govern a country properly? He seems to be more of a troublemaker than a sovereign, I'd give you that. And let's not forget, life in Singapore ain't THAT BAD if you were to look at our neighbours. Be contented.
What a drama staged by SDP and its members. Creating scenes to attract attention from the member of public. Its no wonder they are not very popular among the public. The main thing is they inviting shame upon themselves. Well nothing to say but SHAME on SDP.
The authorities have played into the hands of the opposition.
What was meant to be a private screening turned out to be an incident of leverage. If there hadn'e been any gate crashing by MDA, the media wouldn't have gotten whiff of this fracas and carried this in the main paper.
How's that for coverage?
Our authoritian state plus the "Lee" video are in full view for the world to see. How's that for internet leverage. As we can see, UMNO is still licking it's woulnd over it's power & effect.
I don't think anyone is saying the MDA wasn't doing their job... Just that they were just blindly performing their duties while hiding behind their "reasonings" that is, well, the law.
to:tysploevil, if you are a honest people, who are fighting for a honest cause, try not deleting this post or give a spam rating. the world is watching your actions. and im going to post this on all the videos. its not spam, just and a awareness and a question
---to all stupid idiots here------ i have a question.......
if lets say your mother, girlfriend or daughter is being raped in a house at 9 PM, do the authorities (ie police) have the right to enter and stop it or do they have to wait until the rapist finish everything (ie cum on her face and pussy)
the rapist can say its a 'private event' happening in his house and the authorities can do what ever after he cums.
Hello, you seem to be the ignorant one here. It is UNSURE that the contents of the video were right for broadcast, which in your context of rape, the police will be UNABLE to search the house of the rapist if they do not have a warrant, credible evidence, or "hearing suspicious noises". Get your facts right.
However, if they were BLATANTLY commiting an offence, eg, punching the cop in the face, they can get arrested straightaway without the "reasonable time" crap.
From my point of view, what im hearing from these people (The authorities) are that they are allowed to barge in a private function and snatch any personal item (In this case, a CD) without any reasons at all. Whenever they want. (9 o clock? What the hell? Working overtime? =P)
The way the opposition carried themselves reflects just how mature they are. Sure the folks barged in but they were doing their job. The laughing, mocking and jeering wasn't necessary. They could have better conducted themselves. No body wants clowns running the nation.
People standing up for the PAP show how effective and efficient the brainwashing of the nation is. Many of my schoolmates actually think we have a competant armed force.
The Law erected by the Kangaroo Court and Parliament does not deserve to be respected. They are abusing powers with invalid warrants and bullsh!t "laws!! Blood boil now!
Why make things difficult for other pple? If u all really tat great, show us singaporean wat u can do for us in the next election. stop pulling off these dirty tricks.
Errrmmm....because the cops were downstairs...I bet you my last dollar that she had the cop's cell number on redial.
A doctor was attacked in a case of mistaken identity, the cops were called as the beating carried on for 15 minutes, when the culprits left, then the cops arrived, this happened late last year at a popular eatery in Geylang.
40 Police officers surrounded Dr. Chee and Ms. Chee, yet a limping terrorist climbed thru' a window, over a fence and out of detention.
aiyah no choice lah in spore opposition very hard to win. simply because pple are still well to do. pple with good jobs and money in the bank won't want to change gov.
I agree, but I think you are half right, only when Sgeans are hit in their pocket do they realise.
However, in order for real change to come one must also realise that preserving one's self interests cannot be all that Sgeans want.
The number of old folks rummaging thru' bins for recyclables, homeless and poor in Sg is rising I'm sure this is not what we want to see in Sg. We can't be "pointing at our pockets" all the time.
Hopefully 2011 will be a watershed year, if not we are all screwed.
every country sure got poor pple one lah, can't be helped. i was in new york madison square garden and the number of homeless and beggars are alarming. and they are in the richest and most powerful country in the world. you know why the only opposition wards are in potong pasir, hougang?
answer is because they are of lower income group. even the oppositions know abt this but they don't say it scared paiseh. that's why all those 6th ave, orchard rd, district 10 always walked over by PAP.
U see riots in indonesia, myammar, thailand and india, why? cos they're poor and no jobs and nothing to look forward to. some hope to get arrested so they have a decent meal in jail. then again you might say also riots in belgium, france and some rich nations, why? cos they have social security and it's okay to lose current job and the gov still give them money.
its simple..it means that the authorities already had info that something criminal was going on..the police were already down there waiting..Mas selamat and this incident are totally unrelated..if u feel that the authorities are ineffective in their work then imagine u live in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan..u'll b craving for the day when 1 terrorist is trying to escape and not u tring to escape from terrorists
we shld be thankful that our authorities are dealing with offences related to the law..i agree with defjam126..not that i'm a supporter for any political party..but right now the facts do show that we're under the best available governance..a stable one at least..and it helps everyone..wld u rather we become similar to the other countries in our region where everyday is abt Mahathir quitting Umno and ruling party in distress? Tt wld really cause more problems
To be honest your Iraq and Afghanistan analogy is flawed and totally inapt. I don't mean to be rude but you sure seem like one of those Sgeans that has never left the country for work and lived in another country for an extended period of time.
Politics is politics, the govt of the day will do all it can to remain in power and to perpetuate its power that includes using resources to its benefit.
You been to Iraq? Afghanistan? If not please don't compare something you have no notion of.
End the one familee rule in Singapore.

of course sdp is not above the law.
everyone should be equal before the law.
but some people seem to be able to escape jurisdiction, and it's not the sdp, they are always caught and prosecuted.
sgcommoner 2 years ago
okay u're right. it's a fact they are breaking the law.
as for ur view that "to fully embrace democracy, then the first one that needs to grow up is the sdp", that's an opinion to which i do not agree. of course i respect ur opinion. but i feel that sdp is the one fighting for democracy in singapore. They are "unlawful", yes. but if u're talking abt democracy, so many other countries have shown the same kind of resistance because in a dictatorship, that's the "only way" u can change the govt.
sgcommoner 2 years ago
How do u propose we "change" the s'pore govt? Someone directed the question to sdp Chee when he tried to run for MP. Go and ask him. If u get the answer pls let us know. The last time when sdp hold a rally, he avoided it totally. Democracy is not about mindless resistances it involves processes that come with responsibilities. If u think sdp is capable of such responsibilities, vote for them. Isn't the act itself democratic? Thailand and Philippines are also democratic countries. Read the news.
joos0202 2 years ago
Actually honestly i dun think the act itself is democratic. It hinders freedom of expression, and is exclusively practised on opposition activities to "put them down as much as possible". Jack Neo's films are also political-based, but nothing is done to MediaCorp, the state broadcaster.
Btw, protests are legal in Thailand and Philipines, and I've not heard of any film being banned because of political content. (except maybe terrorist films)
sgcommoner 2 years ago
JNeo's movies are never political, he has a good digg at local policies and practices and that is abt all. Even then his films are subject to classifications under the Film Act. "One Nation" is a biased political propaganda. If you didn't know the difference, there's no point in discussing to you. One can't ban a movie without seeing it, the mda wasn't even given a chance to view it.
joos0202 2 years ago
Jack Neo's movie "Money No Enough 2" contains dialougues that include "Are you from the PAP?" uttered loud and clear.
His movie "Home Run" was a depiction of relations between Singapore and Malaysia during a period of time where our ties were most tense because of the water supply issue.
sgcommoner 2 years ago
In his clever use of parables to relate the inadequacies of public policies and administration, Jneo has never gone as far as to use terms like "dictorship" or "fascism". Or, air unjustifiable and unobjective politically motivated movies with the intention to bash the ruling party. In fact I believe JNeo has raised the awareness to our shortcomings as s'poreans identifed with them. Jneo is not a politician. Sdp Chee on the other hand has hidden agenda, isn't that obvious?
joos0202 2 years ago
Yes of course Jack Neo is not from the SDp, neither are his views coming from the SDP perspective. In fact, I think he speaks and argues for the PAP. So it would be convincing that he might join the PAP one day...lol. That's why I questioned the bias shown towards the opposition. Why is it that Jack Neo's pro-PAP stance tolerated? Why is Channel Newsasia's bias in favour of the ruling party tolerated?
sgcommoner 2 years ago
I like JNeo's "Just Follow Law" esp that part where he has a good digg at URA, LTA, SLA and BCA in which he cleverly highlighted the inadequacies of public services. If he is pro-pap, he sure has a lot to loose. Instead of making generalization u should ask JN what is his political stand.
joos0202 2 years ago
Why is it that "Just Follow Law" was aired on TV and not "One Nation"? Both served to criticize the govt policies and practices. Yet JN has depicted experiences in areas we cld identified with. "One Nation" by comparison is simply a biased propaganda with little facts to support its claims with no representation from the current opposition MPs. The latter has the stamp of sdp made with the usual insinuating remarks and generalization.
joos0202 2 years ago
Thailand is currently in a state of emergency. Twice leaderships have changed hand and yet no solutions. The Philippines has their people power too. What good has come out of it? Those who think that democracy is about mindless defiance, protesting for the sake of doing so are idiots who don't know where they are going.
joos0202 2 years ago
I agree that mindless resistance or defiance is not good. In fact, it is detrimental to society's health. But equally idiotic is mindless loyalty which we see in some of our citizens. (I'm not referring to you, you are well-read and well-informed)

moonlightaffairs 3 years ago 2
Based on what is observed in this clip, the police did a good job in explaining their presence, which facilitated MDA's entry in a cordial manner. They were also inconspicious and this perhaps ward off further strange clapping and cheering (do pp do this when someone takes things away from u?)from the partisan audience.

obededom 3 years ago
I must thank the SDP, and in this case, especially, Ms Chee (Buy?) for producing a video that show how civilised and our civil servants really are in carrying out their duties.
This video also accentuated the stupidity of the people supporting them. They said it is a private party and yet they have to pay for it, and all the more, requesting the civil servants to (chee)buy tickets to be able to enter, thereby making it a public function.
Thank you for showing SDP's stupidity to the world.

hahaha.. MDA officers are too nice. Elsewhere (you know where) it would have been over before the screening and everybody in the lokap. hahaha...
spacetourist2007 3 years ago
From the video clip it is obvious that Mr Seow has very little respect for those whom he dislike. Like Mr Spitzer of the USA who took full responsibility for his personal failings, Mr Seow is blaming every body for his own folly i.e. "declaration of non-indebtness".
We Singaporeans are educated and can see and think. Why should we be afraid of anyone? We only need to fear God.
thinktok 3 years ago
It is obvious that these people are out to embarass the law enforcement officers and in the process embarass Singaporeans too. No wonder Mas Selamat escaped. We are getting too soft. Two minutes and the CD will be switched.
I hope the authorities will put a stop to these type of rubbish.
I have travelled widely and Singapore is still relatively the best place in the world. Sinaporeans respect LKY rather than fear him. Those who fear are those who try to be funny with him.

Good God, how does Mr.Chee keep pushing on man? The constant harassment he faces is mind numbling. If I were him, I may give up. Then again, that's why there are men like him I guess. Maybe one day in the future, his efforts maybe realized, but I fear that's a long road away.
defjam126 3 years ago
And no, such a mentality isn't that of a coward but of a pragmatic person. Is THAT freedom of expression so important that you must sacrifice many things for it? Is that worthed the sacrifice? Do you want riots in Singapore demanding for "freedom", disrupting our economy, causing MORE sh*t for everyone as a result of so? (it's a possibility)
razgriz90 3 years ago
You mean be contented when the PAP is earning the money while the most of the Singaporeans suffers? I dun think we want SDP to govern the country, but we as citizens must voice out when the government makes decisions in their favours but not to us.
It is this mentality of yours that makes Singaporeans such a coward and never progress to democracy.
Look at the video, ask yourself, are MDA actions justifiable?
syfer30 3 years ago 8
Sometimes laws are there to be enforced. Imagine if it is not SDP, but a bunch of Islamic extremists ppl doing the screening of a "video" that may contain contents (e.g: terrorist-related) which may be a threat to Singapore security, do you think it it wrong and unreasonable for the MDA to disrupt their little "private" function then? This is another valid way of putting the idea across to the SDP ppl, just that MDA was dumb enough not to explain it in a critical thinking manner.
armyboy24 3 years ago
Yes, I agree that the MDA's action is NOT justifiable, but that wasn't the point of my argument.
Yeah, sure, PAP's earning money and people's suffering. BUT, compare it with Malaysia, Indonesia, etc, our neighbours, hell their situations WORSE OFF.
Furthermore, can you really prove they're earning $? Our corruption levels RELATIVELY low. No country's perfect. And ask yourself, so what if you achieve total democracy like the US?
razgriz90 3 years ago
In my opinion, that would be a more dynamic system to say the least. In a society like that, no matter how much you love or hate the cabinet and thier policies, everyone is washed out and you get new ppl who are up to the chalenge in convincing people their worth.
I respect many politicians, but if they aren't representative of what, I as an idividual feel that is relavent, I would be happy to see them leave the scene.
defjam126 3 years ago
I'm no expert, but I can say that politics is probably an ever changing landscape. So your playing cards need to change man.
How else can you make the most out of any situation? It's like the EPL. Same thing. Beckham was amazing a few years back, but we'll all forget about him sooner or later.
Sorry if this arguement is longwinded, but hope someone agrees with me.
Peace.

Be contented.
razgriz90 3 years ago
What a drama staged by SDP and its members. Creating scenes to attract attention from the member of public. Its no wonder they are not very popular among the public. The main thing is they inviting shame upon themselves. Well nothing to say but SHAME on SDP.
airbornguy 3 years ago
The authorities have played into the hands of the opposition.
What was meant to be a private screening turned out to be an incident of leverage. If there hadn'e been any gate crashing by MDA, the media wouldn't have gotten whiff of this fracas and carried this in the main paper.
How's that for coverage?
Our authoritian state plus the "Lee" video are in full view for the world to see. How's that for internet leverage. As we can see, UMNO is still licking it's woulnd over it's power & effect.

---to all stupid idiots here------ i have a question.......
if lets say your mother, girlfriend or daughter is being raped in a house at 9 PM, do the authorities (ie police) have the right to enter and stop it or do they have to wait until the rapist finish everything (ie cum on her face and pussy)
the rapist can say its a 'private event' happening in his house and the authorities can do what ever after he cums.
seriously people, grow up.
reextreem 3 years ago

Go figure!
