Always use the parking brake. You take the weight of the vehicle off the transmission. Also, if your car gets hit when your gone, it has a very little chance of rolling somewhere.

you should refrain from using the parking brake as much as possible especially when its cold because the spring that holds the parking brake freezes and you'll end up having a parking brake that wont disengage after its been parked in the cold.

Theoretically, you should always leave a manual car in the lowest gear when parked. Which is reverse, regardless of the direction on an incline.

There is nothing keeping an engine from spinning backwards, you are merely using the engine's friction to overcome gravity. Reverse gives your engine the greatest mechanical advantage.

reverse and 1st gear have different ratios but other than that there isn't a difference. She made it sound like if you are in reverse the car won't go forward. The car won't go anywhere if it's in gear and the motor is off unless it has some serious forces on it.

i drive a stick shift & i never use the hand brake! 1. it wears it out unnecessarily 2. 1st gear is sufficient, no matter what (and if you're smart, you turn the tires towards the curb anyway) 3. in the winter a hand break can freeze & lock up. what's the crap about using reverse! if the motor is off & the car really wants to roll (which it won't), do you really think it cares, if it is turning the engine around the right way or not! how dumb is that!!!
