The shoe trick is great; it's a really simple reveal effect that towers above many other reveals simply because it uses a non-plant audience member to solidify the 'impossibility' factor.

I like the way Daryl describes his ACR as being like a jazz musician improving, I think that is the best way to present it learn a bunch of moves make up some and throw them in where you feel they fit and all magicians learn from each other palming a card off the deck and putting somewhere is not a new move but I like Michael's technique

Now all these magicians approach that situation very differently but I can asure you they don't wear cloths from the salvation army or the Gap or Banana Republic

I think your thinking of STAGE magic. Which is an entirely different ball game. Its about creating a charecter because its theatre. In that arena i would agree that costuming is very important.
