KiSS is a lot more than "good players"! They defined how to write real Rock tunes. A great rock piece is not a matter of "showing off" while being stoned and boozed up, it is how the song is constructed, the chemistry between all instruments and vocals. If kids 'd study these great rock bands, they'd make some real good tunes...

Well, I'm a guitarist and with bands "Live" I always play bass because I love to nail the beat with the drummer. For me, using fingers or a pick depends on the sound I wanna produce. I rarely needed the clear "clinking" sound of a pick. I like to feel the tune with my fingers and to avoid that clear "clinking" sound I did muff the strings on my bass with rubber bands just before the bridge.

I always get a kick out the "lip synched" videos Kiss did back then. Gene NEVER played bass without a pick. But if you watch any of the lip synched vids they did in the '70's, (C'mon And Love Me, Rock and Roll All Nite, I Want You, Hard Luck Woman, and this one) he's always playing with his right hand fingers (like a traditional bass player). Guess he felt like it looked cooler.

Maybe thats a dumb ? it definitely would make a different sound figuring in that the pick is made out of plastic, bone, or ivory or something. With that said how huge is the sound difference? and is playing bass with a pick frowned upon?

@pgbruiser Most bass players don't use picks. There is a significant difference in tone when using a pick versus fingers. Sometimes when a player starts out playing guitar and then switches to bass, they feel more comfortable using a pick. I'm a guitar player but I record quite a bit of bass guitar as well. I use a pick (because I'm more comfortable with one) but I'm not sure one is necessarily "better" than the other.

They were so loud compared to other bands tyat I saw.(priest,triumph,krokus,ac/­dc,crue,cinderella,jovi,alice cooper,iron maiden,dio,megadeath,blue oyster cult,aerosmith,humble pie...the seventies and eightees rocked!
