The change from using cmd+1 and cmd+2 (control+1/2 on Windows) to F6 and F7 for the rack and sequencer views was the only thing I hated about switching to Record. It seemed totally arbitrary and annoying. For a few weeks I was even pressing cmd+3 expecting to see the mixer!
After more than a year I still have to look down to find F5-F7- they're furthest from either hand's default typing position and squashed between other important windows. The old ones you could find blindfold!
Hello. I havent hooked up my midi keyboard yet so I just use my keyboard keys. But whenever I use the keyboard keys, the piano always is delayed or just fades out. Any tips? Thanks.
@Iceboy575655 Sounds like you're suffering form latency. Hooking your MIDI keyboard up won't help. Go to Preferences > Audio and decrease the buffer size. If you pull it too low you may hear cracks and pops, so try and find a balance between the speed you want and the speed your computer can handle. If you're on Windows and can't get the delay short enough for your liking, check out a piece of software called ASIO4ALL.
@ASharawadji Based on my understanding from talking to the engineers, all the audio passed around inside of Reason is 32bit floating point. It's 24bit when bouncing out to a file on your desktop. To my knowledge, there is no music delivery format higher than 24bit when sharing with consumers and listeners.
@PropellerheadSW ive seen drum modules and synth software that work on a 64 bit depth rate, the thing is, im upgrading my studio for sound design for tv, radio and film, ill probably make sample packs...
i was asking because usually working for that type of media you usually need higher audio bit depth and sample rate, dont get me wrong, i think reason its awesome for cd and mp3 quality and i love using the back of the panels, it opens up a whole world of ideas for music creation.
I think you might have some misinformation. A 64 Bit OS has NOTHING to do with the quality of audio that is being generated.. it is strictly OS related and means that the OS can handle larger amounts of RAM (among other things). So.. a 32 bit application running in a 64 bit OS is going to sound just as good as a 64 bit application running on a 64 OS. Even the "industry standard" Pro Tools is not 64 bit OS compatible. so...
Excellent tips, as always! It was great to meet you at The Production Room in Leeds on Thursday night, it really was a great event. Reason 5 and Record 1.5 are mind blowing! Those front row seats were comfy too...
curious, not related to this video, but why doesn't the arpeggio notes to track function work anymore? someone try it and tell me if it works for you or not.
@myfaceispurple Not sure what you mean. I just tested. Created a thor, created an RPG-8, put chord on RPG-8 sequencer track to play the thor as arpeggiated chord, right clicked RPG-8 and chose "Arpeggio Notes to Track." A new note lane was created with my arpeggiated notes as actual sequenced notes. I could now drag that region up onto the Thor track to play the arpeggiated pattern directly as MIDI. Worked totally fine for me.
???? Works fine in 4.0.1 and version 5 (which is not available until after August 25th). See my reply to myfaceispurple and make sure you have the RPG-8 selected in the rack before you choose Arpeggio Notes to track in the Edit mode.
You must be doing something wrong. Works for me. Make sure you select the arpeggiator in the rack and then select Arpeggio Notes to Track in the edit menu.
@jamesbernardmusic yes there is......and im pretty sure one of the propellerheads themselves says to me "the button's working just fine for me" that means there's an arpeggio notes to track button
@myfaceispurple No there's not an actual button in the interface. There's a menu option which I click on when right clicking the arpeggiator device in the rack.
@PropellerheadSW i know.....that's what im talking about.....i right click on the RPG-8 and click the notes to track button....nothing happens.....im sure im doing it right because the same button that does that in redrum works for me.....but not the one for the arpeggiator o.O
Not to beat a dead horse... but do you actually have midi info recorded to a clip on the arpeggio track? If you are just "playing" the RPG-8 live and listening to it.. of course the Arpeggio Track to Notes function will note work.. it needs to convert chords/notes that exist in a MIDI clip to an arpeggio.
Please read his reply again... he never said anything about a button.
The function works perfectly as long as you know HOW it works.
@jamesbernardmusic nope.....never tried that......tried it.....it works now......i've never been a fan of the arpeggiator..i was in a rush to test the guy's theory who said it DIDN'T work.......but yea it works.....thanks =)
thanks for the vid! when are you coming to Australia?
also I'm not sure if you mentioned it last vid, but there are also transport keys which I use every time I use record/reason.. perhaps not as notable on mac because they lack a numeric pad in general? I'm not sure if there are transport keys for a non numeric keyboard, correct me if I am wrong.. I'm curious if I do ever get a macbook
hi there i was at your master class on friday in newcastle i jsut want to say thank you
you were very informative and helpful and have convinced me to buy the updates infortuantley money problem stop me at teh minute but when i get this i can see it replacing pro tools tanks again

This is great, but I still have one extremely basic question: What is the key command to bring the cursor back to the beginning of the session??
Thanks.

@LeeyaK press the Enter key once to stop, twice to return to your loop marker, and three times to to go the start of the session

what is the bit depth on reason 5
ASharawadji 1 year ago
@ASharawadji
What do you mean.. audio bit depth? If so then it's 24bit and the sample rate depends on your audio interface but can go up to 192kHz.
jamesbernardmusic 1 year ago
@jamesbernardmusic yes i meant the audio bit depth thanks
i think ill wait for reason to handle more audio bit depth before i purchase it then
