That's funny. You can't remember what you had last Wednesday for breakfast but you know what went on 180 years ago to a man you never knew. How convenient!

He ended up losing his leg anyway, if I remember the story correctly. Was he one involved in the Mountain Meadow Massecre where they killed 120 men women and children? The children over 6 were killed mainly by blows to the head, their remains were left in the fields for 2 years.
@stmoran53 Typical Anti-mormon. Throw an accusation out there without any knowledge or evidence and hope people believe it. The Mountain Massecre occured in 1857, 7 years after John Tanner died of sickness, probably more a cause of the hardships of the western trek. With both of his legs by the way. You should also try researching the miracle or the Indian attack that involved John Tanner and several women. But it's faith, not miracles you need..and honesty.
John Tanner has a biography out. If you want to get your facts right, read it. Otherwise you offend a lot of his extended family members. He is probably one of the best great-great-great-great grandpas I could ever hope to have. You may disagree with the LDS church and its teachings, but at least be respectful to a humble man who was willing to give up everything for his beliefs. His whole life was devoted to serving and helping others. His life is a very sweet and inspiring story.
I was watching the full version of this inspiring man of faith, John Tanner. I have never seen it nor heard tale of it until I watched it today with my family. Just before the end of the video I felt promted to say to my two sons and two daughters, "That is the Law of Consecration right there!" with tears falling down thinking what a wonderful legacy to leave behind.
@AprilShowers1997 thats nice, my great great great grandpa was Nathaniel Felt, who was a personal friend of Brigham Young and was assistant to the presiding bishopric im not lying
I'm also a direct descendant of John Tanner, but I found watching this movie left me a bit depressed. While I'm sure he was at peace with his decisions, I feel bad that he lost everything and his family had to resort to begging because the early saints set up a bad bank.
Awesome! I'm so excited about this video. I'm a 4th great granddaughter, but it's a story that everyone should hear. Cool to see him as a character, since there are no known photographs of him.
I'm a descendent of John Tanner, through Nathan Tanner. It is great to see such widespread recognition of such a great man, who has been a hero of mine ever since I first learned of him. His life is a great example for all of us to follow.
Interesting, I'm a descendent through Nathan Tanner as well. I first heard of John Tanner in primary from a member of my bishopric, who happened to be a Tanner. His name and story have stuck with me ever since. It's exciting to see a movie being made about his life.
