If we are going to talk about good musicians, should talk about TAIJI. Hide and pata said once, that taiji was the best guitarrist in X ( and he plays the bass xd)

@PinkHidetoMatsumoto hey, i know it's been like a month later after you asked but i wanted to answer. Toshi tunes his guitar differently from the usual EADGBe

he tuned it DGCFAd.

Once you get that tuning, it's pretty easy to just listen to the chords. They are mostly simple chords

Whoever is better artistically or technically, it doesn't really matter. What it matter now is that they are back together. Their songs still touch many hearts. Hope that more people outside Japan can appreciate their music. That has been their dream when hide was alive. They can taken steps to move towards international...good luck to them

For me they are both magnificent in their own way. Hide is more melodical, artistic almost classical. Pata is more faster perfect for metal. Each one of them is different from the other and they knew it, so for me there's no one better than the other, and that's what makes X JAPAN a unique band. They are there to play good music, the one that reach the heart. That's something that Yoshiki pointed out a million times. So why we have to choose who is better than the other? They didn't do it.

The acoustic Rose of Pain from Tokyo Dome '94 is far superior in my opinion. Pata is a gfted guitarist, and technically better than Hide was, but Hide had more ARTISTIC ability than Pata, in my opinion. This is good, thank you for posting.

@TheFourthDefender Pata played second lead guitar in X. I hope you've noticed that he accompanied hide most of the times, or are you completely oblivious to the guitar duets?

FYI, the hardest X Japan solos were played by Pata, e.g. "I'll kill you", "Stab me in the Back" or "Orgasm".

Also, listen to his solo in the single version of "Sadistic Desire", which blows hide's out of the water. Or how about his solo in the album version of Weekend? Heck, Pata's parts in the duets are always harder.

mike portnoy's solo are way more difficult than hide's and pata's mixed... but hide's are more beautiful and artistic.... guitar...  ...pata's solos are speed metal solos.... hide's sound like classical music... ...i think maybe yoshiki was involved in the solos composition as well.... .....i wonder if that theory of mine is true... His voice was amazing when he was younger, I personally think when they came back in 2008 his voice wasn't QUITE up to scratch but I think that's because it had been a long time since he's had to sing in such a way, I think in these 2009 shows his voice has improved a lot so I guess he's been working really hard at getting back to the top again

are you sure? Pata guitar skills are lot better than hide was, just because he was more calm down in personality than hide he is not as popular as him. The only skill that hide was better than Pata was composing, and i think that is just because Pata is lazy and he dont bother in compose songs. He just like to play bad ass guitar lines.

Pata isn't better at all. He has a totally different style to hide, and they both have different influences... Obviously they also had common influences and such but if anything I think hide had the edge over Pata, and not just because he was more charismatic, I think he was a bit more versatile... Anyway, I don't think they're really comparable, I'd only choose hide if I had to, they're both incredibly good at what they do

Well, if you prefer Pata's playing that's good, for some people it's not about technical ability, that's the problem when you play an instrument yourself, you tend to analyse everything too much. I'm not trying to make you convert or anything lol, but I do hope you see things a bit differently now, I mean Pata is technically really good aswell, but is he more skillful than hide? I really doubt it.

Well I played piano for 7 years so I judge Yoshiki's piano skills more on the difficulty level than the melody (in my opinion his melodies sound really simple, but they are not lol)

@robojones I know you posted this a long time ago, but you're crazy if you think hide was better than Pata. Pata has said himself that hide looked up to him as a guitarist, and that hide did not "want to tread on his toes." Pata's solos, especially in the early days, were Akira Takasaki-esque. Look up Stab Me in the Back or I'll Kill You.

As a composer, hide was on a level of his own. But, Pata was much better on a skilled level.
