These are my top FAVORITES(Not the best), in no sort of order. 1. Nas(Dope in every aspect) 2. Jay Z(Sick-ass flow) 3. Eminem(Crazy lyricist, and very creative) 4. Canibus(Opens your mind, and crazy lyrics) 5. Immortal Technique(Conscious, dope rhymes) 6. Jedi Mind Tricks(Very conscious) 7. KRS One(Sick flow, sick rhymes, dope.) 8. Mobb Deep(Hot beats, hot rhymes, what else.) 9. The Notorious B.I.G(Fucking legend.) 10. Ludacris (Good flow, head nodder)
instead of lupe who is his mid 20's look at another guy... kid cudi... this is the only artist that can actually bridge the gap kanye wanted to bridge and did an exceptional job at doin with 808s... cudi is lauryn hill in the male form in my opinion
lupe fiasco is not a top 20 rapper... seriously and his albums are lack luster all over the place he tries to hard to be philosophical. no matter what people say kanye west is the great rapper of this generation from tours, albums you can listen through their entirety, money, production (yeah this is the guy that produced your favorite lupe songs and introduced the world to lupe on touch the sky), setting trends... business minded wise 50 cent takes the cake and then there's a void... kid cudi
Dam u broke it down on my ass huh? lol i jus meant of right now my dude, i aint mean the nigga was one of the 20 greatest, i was jus throwin ashout out to my nigga Lu!!! i feel he dont get appreciated enough in the rap game, and Kanye my nigga too, but i agree wit the shit u said tho
That's the first rap list i've ever seen on Youtube that I can respect. As great as Eminem is I wouldn't put him in my top 10 list. Nas is the best rapper ever, number one for sure. I would have Common, Black Thought, Rakim, Lupe, Pun and Big on my list as well as a few others.

I Would Say 1. Lupe Fiasco 2. 2 Pac 3. Jay-Z 4. Eminem 5. Lloyd Banks 6. Rakim 7. Ice Cube 8. Biggie 9. Common 10. Kanye West I Love The Top 5....I Love Your List Also...:)
"Blueprint"! Or even collabos like "Best of Me" with Mya, or "I'll Be" with Foxy (can ya throw it like a quarterback 3rd in the lot?!)! He's a beast! Any hey, you keep bringin' up "Renegade", but on the "Hail Mary" remix, both 50 AND Em got shown up by Busta! And you can't say Jay can't kill it on a diss song;even if you think "Ether" was better, "Takeover" is still one of the best diss songs ever.
But Em is dope, I've never denied that. Guess a lot of it depends on what you look for in a rap.
eminem aint as good as jay atall i love eminem but jigga is different just because eminem maybe a better storyteller doesn't necesairily mean hes a doper lyricist or has a tighter flow than young, i think the only reason eminem was better than jay in renegade (which i think is ems best verses ever) is because he realised im steppin in the studio with a ledgend of the game he needed to step his game up and jigga was just his usual not writin stuff down and effortlesly laying his rhymes down
Haha, yeah, I gotta say that Dynasty may be one of the worse albums of all-time between the heavy hitters in rap like Jay, Em, Pac, Biggie, etc. Although the intro on the dynasty is a classic, the rest of the joints on there are very mediocre. I agree man that Jay's lyricism is dope, but a lot of that is his beats man, he's worked with some of the best mainstream producers in the game, Kanye, Primo, Timbaland, Jus Blayze, etc. You gotta admit that the production does wonders also...
The rap patterns that Elzhi and Em have mastered are unmatched. For instance, Elzhi has a joint where he's teaching people how to rap: "Lesson two/after you find the beat best for you/spot the rhythym, if not, your writtens are unacceptable/you gotta learn to ride the track/know the bass and the snare is basically there to provide the pace to guide your rap...
that's the stuff I'm talkin about, the 7-patterns, rhyme-inside-a-rhyme, and the other complexities of flowing that Jay doesn't do.
But I feel you, our conversation is like two people saying who is better between Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaq, they do different things, Shaq in his prime will post you up and give you the jump hook or bang you in the paint and posterize you. The Dream would cross you over and hit you with a spin move or a one-handed fake and finesse his way to 25 points and 12 boards. I think its the same with Jay and Em, they are both great and talented they just go about it a different way. I just prefer patterns
Lol! I guess Dynasty wasn't Jay's best work. But hey, a mediocre album by Jay (or Em) is still better than most of the stuff out there! I definitely agree that, especially in today's rap, production plays a HUGE role. Hell, producers make more than artists now! The good thing about Jay and Em is their lyrical ability can stand on its own, and everybody knows it. Jay probably does use producers to make his joints "hotter", or more radio or club friendly, but hey, nuthin' wrong with that! A joint
with a hot beat will generally be easier to listen to than a joint with just a beat! And there is some recording smarts involved too. Like, I once read that Jay likes experimenting with new and different beats. I remember this joint "the things that you do" where he had mariah carey singin' the hook. It was cool! It was like there was a flute or piccolo playin' on it! One thing you can say about Jay, unlike a lot of rappers, or even artists period, his joints don't all sound alike.
Jay raps cool, and that works for him. But Em raps with a lot of fire and passion, and that works for him. Joints like Lose Yourself, his spot on Forgot about Dre, his spot on the Lean Back remix, those are some of my favorites. He had this joint on the Nutty Professor sdtrk with Redman, "Off the Wall", that was just FIRE! I like your Olajuwon/Shaq analogy. Different styles, both great results.
I'm gonna have to check out this Elzhi cat! He sounds NICE!
So, to me, if Jay's at least as good or better a lyricist, and a larger percentage of his rhymes are dope, and he's been making dope rhymes longer, that equals he's the better rapper. I don't knock you for your opinion, but that's mine. Heck, MTV even put him as #1 on their list of greatest MCs of all-time (which I don't actually agree with, but it does give him credibility). Incidentally, Em was #9.
Cool, I respect and acknowledge your opinion, I just humbly disagree, especially whenever MTV and BET weigh in on anything, they both had Jim Jones' song "Ballin'" as their number one song for weeks, that amongst everything else that these MTV minds deem as credible in hip hop is the exact opposite of what I agree with about 99% of the time.
As far as Em, yea he's put out a lot of trash, but so has Jay. Hell "The Dynasty" album was quite possibly one of the worse things I've ever heard...
But "Stan" is so creative, so are his lyrics on his diss songs against Benzino and Ja. Jay is good, but lyrically he's nowhere nearly as powerful as Em. I think we saw that on their joint collabo "Renegade". Em has mastered rap patterns and wordplay that I've never heard Jay spit. Jay-Z is nice, and has made some dope albums, but on a lyrical scale he'd get eaten up by Mos Def, Em, Elzhi, etc. Jay works with more trendier producers that appeal to the masses. I think his best album was Blueprint.
I think Jay could hold his own against any of them. But he and Em have different flows. It's not that Em's more lyrically powerful, but he has an anger and fierceness in a lot of his raps, and that's not really Jay's style. Like "Stan" - I never really thought that lyrically, or in terms of flow, "Stan" was a masterpiece. But in terms of CREATIVITY, heck, it might've been damn-near genuis! But you gotta admit, Jay's wordplay and flow are second to none! Think about "Reasonable Doubt" or
Lol! Yeah, I'd be suspect of an MTV rap list too! But it's actually a pretty decent list. Damn, bruh, you really hated "Dynasty" that much?! Lol!
I can defitinely respect your love of underground hip hop. I think it's really cool that Mos Def, Elzhi, and Pharoahe Monch are in your top 4 rappers, guys that never really mainstream but any real rap fan knows are dope lyricists. Some people think rap's all the same, but we know better. That's why debates like ours are good for the game!
I also really like "Reasonable Doubt" its one of my favorite albums of all-time and Jay-Z is the king of mainstream rap, so is 50 (which I don't like much at all) but I'm more of an underground fan, where rappers still make songs for the love of hip hop and are hungry so they go hard on the majority of the songs on their album. Jay and Em have made their fair share of garbage. But Em has a skill that very few have. Youtube Elzhi's "Love It Here" and any joint from Qwel. These dudes still go hard
I'm basing it on lyrical ability. I would NEVER say that Eminem isn't a GREAT rapper, but he's not the best, and he's no Jay-Z (at least in my opinion).
You have to consider, how often does a rapper do great raps, and how long has he/she been doing great raps. To me, Jay virtually ALWAYS makes tight raps, even when he's just being playful. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but he has a flow and a wordplay that for me just put him at the top of the list. Em has had some FANTASTIC
1 - BIGGIE is #1, hands down! Pac may have been deeper or more poetical or whatever, but for straight lyrical skills, Biggie was the best.
2 - Yes, Jay-Z is the best living rapper.
3 - Eminem may be in the top 5 living rappers, but he's not in the top 5 all-time.
4 - Let's get serious, if Nas won the JayZ-Nas battle, it was only because he went last. It was just that kind of battle; they kept one-upping each other. If Jay had gone last, he would've won.
True, but Nas was "unofficially" proclaimed the victor after Ether came out. 'Sides, wasn't SupaUgly, like, more of a radio freestyle anyway?
Regardless, whoever won the battle, Jay is the better rapper. Some people may hate to admit it, but when Jay said "that's a one hot album every ten year average", he was basically tellin' the truth!
Wait, R you basing your list on purely records sold or lyrical ability? b/c what Em does w/rap patterns and how he plays on words is 2nd to none. Elzhi from Slum Village is very similar to that, and actually more focused than Em. So, forget radioplay/popularity/what pop culture says. As far as best rapper of all-time lyrically, put Eminem on a song with Biggie in his prime and watch him do what he did to Jay on "Renegade"...
raps, but be honest, some of his biggest hits were just so-so raps. "Hi, my name is" was not a great rap. "Mockingbird", while an interesting story, was not a great rap. "My band" was not a great rap. Even with "Stan" it was more the story than the flow that made you wanna listen.
But beyond that, Jay's body of work is also larger than Em's. Jay's had what, 10 albums, to Em's, what 4 or 5? Has been in the game about 12 years, to Em's 9 or 10? (and that's giving 4 years; hasn't dropped
well 2 me pac is the g.o.a.t we all have are different likes and taste i like pac over nas,jay or biggie thatz just me like u like nas over pac or jay-z or jay over pac or nas i think if it wasn't for biggie dying jay-z would be as great as he is iu kno most of his masinstream raps are biggie's

all yall stupid...nas will eat jay ..on competition in em and jada....and thats it.....nas jada an eminem top 3....jay is 4th....anybody who think jay-z is the greatest of all time is trash themsleves...and really ll cool j need to be in the top as well...
Yeah, and you're a jackass because you get upset over dumb shit like a little bitch and then blow it out of propotion when somebody is expressing their opinion!!!!!!
It's easy to be consistent when you're making commercial Hip-Hop. That's not a diss to Jay. That's just the bottom line. Nas is gangsta. He isn't 100% pure commercial rap and that's why his track record is a lil shaky.
How is nas gangsta? What has he ever done to confirm that he is gangsta. Before you make crazy comments check da facts. And as for Jay bein commercial, all i can say is he makes music that is appealing to all different types of people.
Nas is a prophet you asscrack, lol... Spits for the teachings of the people but then switched to all this commercial stuff and started makin trash music. Nas is explained in great detail on the Blueprint 2 song of the Blueprint 2 album
Yeah, I know but he does it in a gangsta ass way. I know all this shit. I'm a big Nas fan. I have all of his albums and shit. I know that he's a a prophet and the he spits know Mr. Exclushit.
Maybe I was just expressing an opinion. Maybe you should fuck off. Maybe you should get a life and not be so analytical. Maybe you shouldn't diss people over the net for expressing their opinions. Maybe you're depressed. Maybe you're some fuckin' loser who glorifies dissing people on the net, because you don't have a life. I don't know what your situation is, but you need to get one and stay out of mine.
Obviously you weren't listening to Hate me Now or I Am... when he tried his hardest to sell out but since it didn't work he decided to go back to spraying all the same bullshit that all you fake hip hop heads wannabe eat up all because you heard "One Mic" and decided it was dick riding time. Ask yourselves something what has Nas done with his time in between albums to be a real prohet I'll tell you: Married Kelis, signed his life to his rival for money, and Make albums with shock value to cash in
i wouldnt call it commercial soulja boy thats commercial lil wayne hopin on every track thats commercial u cant just look at a single and say DAMN THAT NIGGA COMMERCIAL u gotta look at the albums content
We all got something in commmit we know good shit and really listen to music. Jigga is the shit lyricaly, freestyle is hot and I feel that he spits the truth he lives and see's. Hope ya'll had a good thanksgiving homey's.
honestly, maybe the best Mc ever apart from eminem, lyrically flawless. wtf is wrong with people like jim jones dissin him? or camron? or even that muthafukin weezy... who the fuk are they to diss him
in response to the jim jones comment, jim jones is a idot who had one successful single. It's like midget mac boxing shaq, those jabs don't phase jay. he buyin out bars but jayz is buyin bars. jayz versus are filled with double entandres he barely forms a metaphor. but hey, its gangster music
This man is brilliant....that's why I can't comprehend how is it possible or logical for non descript dudes like Jim Jones to try and diss him....I LOVE JAY!!!!!!

Best Verse Ever in Hip-hop: Mos Def's in "Thieves In the Night"
Best Rapper: Emimen (especially when he's focused, what he does when he's joking is what 99% of rappers wish they could do when they r serious).
Best diss song: Tie between "Hit em up" and "Ether"
Best Song: "Juicy" Biggie
Best Rap Group: Blackstar (Kweli/Mos Def)
Best Producer: Jay Dilla (the way he understood the MPC is unthinkable).
Most overrated ever: 50 cent

Wait, R you basing your list on purely records sold or lyrical ability? b/c what Em does w/rap patterns and how he plays on words is 2nd to none. Elzhi from Slum Village is very similar to that, and actually more focused than Em. So, forget radioplay/popularity/what pop culture says. As far as best rapper of all-time lyrically, put Eminem on a song with Biggie in his prime and watch him do what he did to Jay on "Renegade"...
Best Rappers Alive:
1. Eminem
2. Elzhi
3. Mos Def
4. Pharoahe Monch

raps, but be honest, some of his biggest hits were just so-so raps.
(and that's giving 4 years; hasn't dropped

nas is a pioneer but jay has definitely been much more consisant and nobody can argue that
johnb7884 4 years ago 6
It's easy to be consistent when you're making commercial Hip-Hop. That's not a diss to Jay. That's just the bottom line. Nas is gangsta. He isn't 100% pure commercial rap and that's why his track record is a lil shaky.
lildwayne21 4 years ago
How is nas gangsta? What has he ever done to confirm that he is gangsta. Before you make crazy comments check da facts. And as for Jay bein commercial, all i can say is he makes music that is appealing to all different types of people.
johnb7884 4 years ago
FUCK YOU NIGGA! NAS IS GANGSTA! YOU'RE THE ONE MAKING CRAZY COMMENTS! Now fuck off.
lildwayne21 4 years ago
your gay, die slow nigga
johnb7884 4 years ago
Nas is a prophet you asscrack, lol... Spits for the teachings of the people but then switched to all this commercial stuff and started makin trash music. Nas is explained in great detail on the Blueprint 2 song of the Blueprint 2 album
mrexclusive28 4 years ago
Yeah, I know but he does it in a gangsta ass way. I know all this shit. I'm a big Nas fan. I have all of his albums and shit. I know that he's a a prophet and the he spits know Mr. Exclushit.
lildwayne21 4 years ago
Maybe I was just expressing an opinion. Maybe you should fuck off. Maybe you should get a life and not be so analytical. Maybe you shouldn't diss people over the net for expressing their opinions. Maybe you're depressed. Maybe you're some fuckin' loser who glorifies dissing people on the net, because you don't have a life. I don't know what your situation is, but you need to get one and stay out of mine.
lildwayne21 4 years ago
Obviously you weren't listening to Hate me Now or I Am... when he tried his hardest to sell out but since it didn't work he decided to go back to spraying all the same bullshit that all you fake hip hop heads wannabe eat up all because you heard "One Mic" and decided it was dick riding time. Ask yourselves something what has Nas done with his time in between albums to be a real prohet I'll tell you: Married Kelis, signed his life to his rival for money, and Make albums with shock value to cash in
LittleClapton 4 years ago
Yeah, I know about thaht shit.
lildwayne21 4 years ago
i wouldnt call it commercial soulja boy thats commercial lil wayne hopin on every track thats commercial u cant just look at a single and say DAMN THAT NIGGA COMMERCIAL u gotta look at the albums content

honestly, maybe the best Mc ever apart from eminem, lyrically flawless. wtf is wrong with people like jim jones dissin him? or camron? or even that muthafukin weezy... who the fuk are they to diss him
MKhybari10 4 years ago 3
apart from em? em is cool but he aint in touchin Jay.
Hovjr07 4 years ago 5
in response to the jim jones comment, jim jones is a idot who had one successful single. It's like midget mac boxing shaq, those jabs don't phase jay. he buyin out bars but jayz is buyin bars. jayz versus are filled with double entandres he barely forms a metaphor. but hey, its gangster music
ff1one 4 years ago 3
This man is brilliant....that's why I can't comprehend how is it possible or logical for non descript dudes like Jim Jones to try and diss him....I LOVE JAY!!!!!!
