Both of these cars are fantastic. The majority of people commenting here can never afford either car and will never drive either car. Good luck finding the B7 RS4 used in this video as only around 10,000 were ever made. Only 2500 made it to the US. The same can be said about the E46 M3 CSL which is also very rare. Truth is only a skilled driver can get the most out of these cars on a track. The novice everyday driver will not be able to take advantage of of what makes these cars great.

Audi use the same engine block as in the Gallardo, only with other softwares, so it's still audi technologies, and that engine is in the S6, RS6, S8 and the R8, so it doesn't have anything to do with the 4.2 Liter V8 in the RS4. I have a RS4 and my dad has a CSL, I have driven both cars on normal roads and on racetracks. The CSL is a track car with no AC or stereo and fun as hell to drive on the track, the RS4 is fun to, not as fun as the CSL on a track but its a fast, practical and luxurious 4-door sedan. I use my car as a everyday car, my dad dosnt with the CSL. I love my car and I think the CSL is a great car to. They are two totally different cars and very good at what they were ment to be good at.
but don;t u guys see that the BMW M3 CSL was out 2003 and the Audi RS4 is 2005.... of course the AUDI would be better in this case, they always make more powerful cars each few years. the rs4 uses a V8 plus a 4.2 litre, which meant more torque than the M3 CSL using its S54B32 tuned a bit. It is only 3.2 litre and only a straight 6 cyclinder engine = lots of stuff below RS4 (because made 2003?) so they can't really compare, supposing that they are made with 2 years difference.
On a racetrack the Audi wouldn`t have a chance. Remember the M3 CSL did the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:50...almost the same time as the Porsche 997 Gt3!!!
Straight six 3.2 litre, tuned a bit for CSL, came from 1999. CSL production started in 2002 and ended year later. Hence, there is comprarision of engines with 6 year difference and still M3 CSL is better on each track than RS4.

People make mistakes when they compare M-POWER to RS-POWER. Those who do obviously don't know anything about technology, engineering, and other. Those who do know give the world stage ticks as best performance, design, technology, safety and other in production car industry, and those ticks go to Audi as proven in many ways than one. Being passionate about something now that's totally different.

Both cars are great for sure, but when it comes world stages Audi overtakes BMW ever so easily as proved. When the two cars were given to professional drivers than the answer is "BMW M-3 2008 has done nothing it only matched up to RS-4 2006 and still RS-4 feels better when driven anywhere on any track/road any day, or weather".

and a nother thing m3 are limited to about 150 where as the rs4 is limerted to about 165 m3 having a straight 6 comperd to the rs4's v8 but still thay should put the rs4 agnst the new m3 then c what happons THE NEW M3 FUCKEN OWNES it has a faster lap time than a lamborghini gallardo around nurberg ring v8 vs v8 onyl fear

the audi v8 sounds amazing, and the 3.2 v6 sounds amazing as well. Better than a bmw? I believe so. The rs4 is a great car, but it's not really faster than the csl that much anyways. My bet is the rs4 just weighs alot more with four doors and awd.

the CSl has 60 hp less then the RS4 and the RS4 is not realy faster... With this sound and trackperformance its the CSL for me

I have to agree. Audi has come a long way in recent years, but still cannot hold a stick to BMW's driving experience. The Audi's are excellent products, just a bit hum-drum in my opinion for driving. Very boring.

I'd have the m3 over the audi anyday !
The audi is big and heavy and not even faster then the m3 , it pulled away like 4 metres and didnt gain any more ground at all !
And the m3 handles like a go-kart , sounds better , and looks the mutts nutts !

this is the third time GTboard has done this now, must be some sort of sticking point!
One time the CSL wond by a large distance, secondtime was a draw and the audi took that by the slimmest of margins
i'll put it down to the individual tolerances from engine to engine, some CSLs are faster some are slower.
i can honestly say between mine and a friends RS4 the performance is identical

Not really as much since they begin from a rolling start. They try to take as much variables out of the equation as possible and purely put it on the cars

Some people are quicker at changing gears than others....there is a driver skill factor there

With a rolling start such as they do, it takes away as much driver interference as possible and they try to purely show the cars performance against its competitors.
Best way to eliminate driver inexperience as possible

I wish BMW would come out with an E92 CSL. manual windows, AC delete, manual seats, CF hood and trunk, no nav or stereo. And make it cost less than a regular E92 like Hyundai did with there Genesis Coupe R-Spec.

RS4 is sooo quick, both are as quick as a ferrari 360 however the rs4 is a sedan, soo much heavier but like he says, the traction probably did play a big part!
