I love this episode, I think Shorty have to move the gate at last. Because the gate block Popeye and rebound towards the cupboard which is fill with cups and plates. The cop is very funny. I think the cop need to close the area around Olive Oyl's building because Popeye and Shorty keep throwing objects to the street. Shorty must tie the rope to the place where he lifted the van to prevent the van falls straight towards the ground.
Yeah, I was hoping set 4 would have been out by now. I know it's P.I. (Popeye-ly incorrect) to say this, but the Famous era, especially the early years, was by far the best.
at least we have all of the Fleischer cartoons -- and all the black and whites-- I wasn't really looking forward to the 50s material anyhway--I would've stopped after the first two volumes of the Famous color cartoons anyway
I agree, this is one of my favorite Famous era Popeye's too. I was hoping to see the restored version of this cartoon on the 4th DVD set but apparently there is no news on when the DVD's come out.
I think the economy has something to do with it. When the 3 stooges volume collections were being released, word was that due to the economy, the releases were slowed down. But who knows really.
I hope they release the new DVD set soon. I really want to see this cartoon restored and played at the correct speed. This cartoon is one of my favorite from the Famous era Popeye cartoons!
"As of November 11, 2009, during a broadcast of Stu's Show on Shokus Internet Radio, it has been announced by animation historian and DVD production consultant Jerry Beck that due to the present state of the United States economy, and the high costs involved for restoring the remaining Popeye cartoons, no new DVD releases are planned for 2010."

Nothing. Thats whats going to happen.
Sorry if that came across as a bit cruel but the whole 2012 domsday theory has a bunch of holes in it. Again, sorry if I sound a bit cruel.

One of my favorite of all Popeyes. Wish it weren't speeded up, though—it spoils the careful pacing and superb music of the original.

Word is that volume 4 won't be released till 2010.

That's what I've heard too. What I don't get is why it wasn't released this year. The last DVD set came out in late 2008.

No Popeye DVDs in 2010. Too bad. Now I'm really mad at WB.
ThePopeyeFan 2 years ago
That's ridiculous! The last DVD came out a year ago, now we have to wait another year just for a two disc set!?!?!?!?
