  • Beautiful!

  • Beautiful interpretation of Nina Simone's "Four Women"

  • its refreshing to see real emotion. the way dance should be. loved it

  • Quite amazing, I get chills watching these women dance. It brings me back to the dynamism of human expression. What the body can communicate, can capture the pain and anguish, give it force and vitality alongside the music. Just lovely, really.

  • Aww come on no one got as much applause as Ms. Carol (the first) and that was because well she choreographed the piece, owner of the dance studio and the fact that her flexibility is still on point is amazing! And the last 2 are like vet dancers of the company I remember watching them dance when I was younger. The lighter girl I really don't remember her...ANYWHO THE PIECE WAS AMAZING. I come back to it every few months to reminisce a

  • :) 1:44 Nina Simone- "My name is Saffonia,"... person in audience "C'mon Christina!"

  • YESSSSS!!!! mama carol!!!!! yall was the bomb!!!!... 2 people hatin.... smh

  • Divine Beauty Beyond Measures! My standing ovation.

  • wow that was good

  • beautiful!!!!!

  • This was simply amazing! This is one of the beautiful performances I have ever seen in my life.

  • AND THAT'S THE STUFF WE'RE MADE OF ... MAGNIFICENT !

  • I'ma go on record saying that from the first girl to the last ALL the young women kilt this ! Their expression told their story and FYI the light skinned girl did Saffronia 's story so good she worked it ! ALL the girls danced beautifully and told the story of the Four Black Women in a way Ms. Nina Simone would have been proud . You ladies is the reason we BLACK GIRLS ROCK ! OKAY ..

  • goood and funny

  • I love this....makes me want to dance.....dancing is something that I left behind me, But this right here almost made me get up out of my chair and begin to let the dance come out... I love these ladies....lol I have watched it now like 4 times....lol I love the ladt that plays Aunt Sarah, she was so strong, and well as peaches.......I love this. Keep it up

  • they bettah go witt they bhadd self

  • POWERFUL!

  • I Really Enjoyed This Ladies, Thank you

  • It doesn't happen often that I cry when I see a dance, but this... This was absolutely beautiful.

  • i believe they didnt clap not because of her complexion but because of the technicality of her piece. You have to admit, everyone else had better extension and more soul than she did. Over all a great piece!!!!

  • 1 of my fav songs!! simply BREATH TAKING!!! currently working on the choreography 4 this song (will post when im done!! Thanks 4 sharing!!

  • this was just beutiful it leaves you...............speachless

  • Loved it!!

  • omg all that clapping smh lol

  • Comment removed

  • this is so nice but i hate when people start talikng and clapping and stuff while people perform. i want to enjoy it too gosh.

  • my favorite dance performance of this song. stunning!

  • coming up production at the faire gallery cafe in seattle. i just called and the event is FREE and it starts at 8pm. i am SO excited!!! very happy i came across this before it had passed.

  • OMG this is so beautiful!

  • im dancing off this song for black history but the Ledisi Kelly Price,, Jill Scott & Marsha Ambrosius version & Im Peaches (:

  • That was awesome!

  • da dance was coool... but im gonna upload a dance to this song one of these days ................... and its gonna be better and chrisser than this!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I did a dance to this song in 5th grade. Shot out to miss Glover!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • the beauty of real women :)

  • why is it that everything that black people do we turn it into a competition. each one of these ladies did a beautiful job of conveying the spirit and emotion of the woman that they were portraying. of course the last young lady gave a more emotional performance, the life of her character was tougher than that of the other character.

  • Aww that was beautiful.

  • thanks for sharing,its wonderful

  • Number four killed it and is gorgeous

  • That was outstanding

  • Yes sweet thing! Her attitude was so perfect

  • Beautiful!

  • You see how everyone in the crowd cheered the dark skinned woman but they didn't cheer the light skinned one. That's fucked up.

  • @Thedarksecret1

    exactly. and I totally agree.

It aint got nothing to do with her performance..that was strait hatin.

  • @Thedarksecret1

Their lack of support totally exemplifies the song. The struggle that the various black women had based on their skin tone.

Damn shame. That we are not as "GROWN" as we'd like ppl to believe.

  • @Thedarksecret1

I noticed that! Its so messed up. Idiots!

  • this was great!!!! werk out sweet thang :)

  • It was a good effort & I applaude them for trying.......

  • Who was the original choreographer for this dance because I have seen this dance performed back in like 2000 or 2001 when i was in high school and I thought the girls that did it came up with the dance. now i am wondering who did...so can someone please inform me...thanks

  • i love this dance it is simply beautiful

  • beautiful

  • wow

  • Breathless...so empowereing.

  • i luv the lady who does Peaches' part!!!!!!!!!

  • That was the best interpretative rendition I have yet, of this song. Beautiful and strong women!

  • AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • GORGEOUS!!!! ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS!!!!!

  • Excellent.

  • That was beautiful

  • Speechless...

  • Phenomenal!

  • Nina simone wrote this song. She was pretty much telling how these different women went through different things. and yes it is jealousy. long time ago they thought the mixed ones were better, but it was them who were also raped and used to breed like someone bread horses.

too me it ain't the one with the yellow skin ya have to worry about. It's the one they call "sweet thing" b/c sweet thing will have a man and take yours too. LOL!

  • my name is peacheeeezzz!!!

  • LOOK AT THOSE LINES!!!!! WHOOO GO HEAD LADIES!!!!!

  • beautiful interpretation btw, just discovered this song.

  • I like this a lot, they're all great dancers!!! Very nice!

  • why didnt they clap for the young woman with the long hair??

that was odd..to hear them applaud every dancer but her...

I have my thoughts on why..lol..but I shall keep them to myself!

they were all wonderful and their interpretation of Ninas Song was stupendous!

  • @deatha44 lol i knw what u were hinting at and since ur being very gracious about it, ill share MY thoughts lol. it bothers me that we didnt hear ANY applause for the lightskinned girl with long hair. we all "should" know by now that black is black, whether the person is mixed or whatever. and her story was just as valid and powerful as the rest of the women. somehtin in "our" minds needs to shift, we need to get with the program:)

  • @SW33TI316 lol

kinda sucks, really doesnt it? we do need a mind shift.

that idea that this group of black women would make their issue with her skin, hair and beauty so......obvious that NO ONE CLAPPED. Ive seen this before. whats more obvious is that they collectively refused to applaud. Not as though they planned it but just something in them to refuse to acknowledge this sister. jealousy perhaps?envy? hatin?insecurity?

either way, it only showed me that we are not as far as we think we r

  • @deatha44the last thing u said is a very sad thought...i totally agree with what u said about "somehting inside of them refusing to acknowledge this sister" :) ur absolutely right and i believe the reason for that mayb an individual issue as well as collective but im sick of all this nonsense. i jus want us as people (all races) to get over this whole skin thing. embrace it, celebrate it, and move on....)

  • @deatha44 btw if you dnt mind me asking, what does ur "name" mean?

  • @deatha44 in all honesty her dance was kinda weak she had no emotion what so ever compared to the others so thats y noone clapped

  • @deatha44

the lack of applause is not against the girl, its for the performance. i've seen this performance several times with this company, and they have changed girls on a number of occasions. the yellow girl has received the same amnount of applause as any other female when the audience is able to feel the struggle of the character through her movement. In this video it simply isnt there. You can understand what the dancer is attempting but she is missing the mark.

  • @SW33TI316 i agree with her story being just as valid however her execution and stage performance was horrible coming from a performer point of view sweething received alot of applause because she portrayed her character and dance very well

  • @mrslovelylo i just HOPE thats the real reason the audience responded the way they did=T/:)

  • @SW33TI316

Even with that explanation of her performance being "weak"..whatever that means...

she gave her best and didnt have attitude when she did it. I think, sometimes..SOME bw think its great to give attitude, which we presume brings luster and appeal. MAybe, maybe not. While I dont believe that they failed to applaud because of her so called "weak performance", its certainly more palatable to assume that, than to assume that shes a beautiful woman and the lack of response was pure envy.

  • @SW33TI316 I have watched this video a few times and I think the main reason the 2nd dancer received no applause is because she did not appear to be as strong a dancer as the woman that preceded her. She seemed jerky with her movements. The other three dancers look far more polished. I don't know if this is meant to display the fact that this character's life is truly off balance or not. If I were in the audience, that would be the reason I did not applaud.

  • Great!!!!

  • THAT right there is the most beautiful dance I have ever seen!!! Thank you for posting this!

  • OUTSTANDING!! Ms. Carolyn you are soooo talented. Please include "Four Women" in your next show. Thank you!

  • I remember my sister danced to this song when i was in college. This makes me remember how powerful that moment was. Good job ladies.

  • ABBBBBSOOOOLUUUTELY,BEAUTIFUL! From fellow DANCER to other DANCERS, this could not have been choreographed, executed or performed more beautifully!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • to all that have commented that went to WJDT when this originally was choreographed...so did I. I was actually a part of THILLER that year....so many good memories. I swear I miss it!

  • the 3rd one is the best!

  • I love the dance to this, this song has been inspiring to me as an artist so to see a dance to it was very amazing

  • Kaiwyn, it is part of american black culture. It is called call and response - appropriate

  • How beautiful. I wish the song could have been dubbed over this so we wouldn't have to listen to people talking and that baby crying.
