1. it doesn't let you drag and drop pictures from your computer to your cell so you have no choice to either use queer default telus pictures, actually shop images off the net through your cell which are shit quality, or take pictures with the 1.3 mega pixel camera and set that as your main display wallpaper.
2. you can't just directly plug earphones to cell, you have to use this extra wire that connects your earphones to your cell which looks like shit.
I've also had this one for about 3 years. I've dropped it I don't know how many times on concrete. still works great. Best durable phone I've ever owned.

If I could I would just buy another one but it isn't offered. For those of you asking about getting music on the phone, it is posable. Aslong as you have a MicroSD card, and have the adapting piece for your computer... just copy files onto the card in the proper folders and put it in your phone (MP3 format). Your phone should automatically read the files and have them in your library.

It's impossible to put custom ringtones on the LG 8600. I own one, and trust me, I've tried. lol. The only way you can get them is to voice record them (*decent quality depending on volume*), or download them from RealTone Jukebox (*or something similar*).
No no no, it is posiable. It is just a pain... you have to go to websites (on your computer) like phonezoo. c om *remove space* and make one out of an MP3 file you have on your computer. This website will send the finished file directly to your phone, or you can download it too your computer and E-mail it or transfur it too an SD card. nvm, i got my music on this phone a while ago, but i DO NOT reccommend you buy it. you cannot get custom ringtones on it, and if your with telus, you will definately not be able to do anything ringtone related. i'd give it a 10 on strenght like me and my friend have it and she got pissed and like through it at cement one day and it didnt break but on over all good probebly a 9 cause like most phones it can/will have technical dificulties

since about 2-3 months ago ive been having problems with the lights on the front of this phone turning on and not turning off unless you turn it off and back on.
also, when i get calls or text messages both the front and the inside screens turn white and i have to close and open my phone several times..its really annoying, is there any way to fix this?

I effin hate this phone for alltel. Ive gone through 3 of them. And I only dropped it once or twice. The screen looks like your looking at it in the mirror cause it reverses on me for sum reason. It takes 15 min 2 send a text with 5 bars. It has no water damage or a scratch on it but it still messes up on me. And when you are on a call the earpiece sounds dimmed. I hate this phone so much. The thing that sucks is i have to exchange it 4 times to get a different kind of phone. DONT GET THIS PHONE

I bought the LG VX-8600 last april of 2007 and it still works like a charm and no chipped paint or anything major and my battery is pretty good, but I make sure to run it down completely from time to time, charge it and then let it sit for 15 minutes while it's off. I can listen to music on it's loudest volume nonstop for about 2 1/2 hours. I have the motorola bluetooth stereo head set for my phone and it's the bomb! If anyone checks out the Movie IRON MAN,look at the phone Terrance Howard use.

Truly, I have no right to tell you what is best, but I purchased a flip phone because it reduces the scratches on the screen, etc. Again, as far as I know, Blackberries are front screen only. The only difference between a flip LG 8700 and a slide LG 8700 is that the flip one has a front LCD time and date display, even if you did not flip the phone open. The slide phone does not. In addition, you may consider also purchasing a protective case for the slide phone, if you purchase one.
yeah, im finding cince i m in canada i have to go to a place called Rogers, so they only have the slide and personally, i don't care for nokias, samsungs, or motorolas. i think i will get a case for the slide because it really will bug me if it gets scratched. and i've decided not to get a blackberry because of the price and within 2 weeks the buttons get flimsy. so i think the slide is the way to go.

this handset is def not a guys handset. The small keypad sucks and I find myself misdialing often due to the small numbers. Another thing I dont like is there is no message waiting indicator/call indicator on the outside. This handset is a fingerprint nightmare. Every little smudge shows up and youll find yourself constantly wiping it off

I have this phone and the hinge is getting a little loose. I think that snapping noise it was making is making the hinge that way. My brother even has a friend who has this phone and the top screen won't stay up unless you hold it like that.

Yeah. Now I have it (well I've had it for almost a month). And there's this little 'snapping' noise when I open and close it (that's the best way I can describe it). But other than that, it's a great phone. No regrets. =]
I just got this phone. I love it so far. It does have it's pros and cons... mostly pros. I think the only cons I have with it so far are with the speakerphone not being very loud, the flat keypad, the small and slippery side buttons(unavoidable on a phone this thin), and the microSD slot which can easily get the memory card stuck in there(don't push it in too much). The phone doesn't come with miscroSD card but they aren't too expensive if you don't buy from Verizon.

If you take verizon earbuds (which sound terrible) cut them off and solder a 3.5 female adapter to them you can use whatever headphones you like. Can't download free java games and put them on this phone with Gthing... yet (same with chocolate i think). I use this phone as my mp3 player which saves me like 300 bucks and it looks great. Modification of headphones is a must but not hard.
Most boring review EVER. I got one, only paid like 20 bucks for it after term was up. Display is great looking, camera is better than most i've seen, and it has features like inverting colors, sepia, b&w. At first i was very dissapointed with music. Actually sounds pretty good from mono speaker but wont accept varying bitrate mp3... some mp3 it just don't like. NO HEADPHONE JACK, just like all phones. Have to buy memory, (will take 2 gig) have to buy music kit seperate (30 bucks).
I have a question for you...how do you make the external screen stay lit for as much time as you want? I have the VX8600 but it annoys me when I have to press a button or open the phone to see the time because the external screen shuts off after 5 seconds.

I have the 8600 and I like it a lot. I have played with the Chocolate 8300 and the touch controls on the front are very annoying and don't keep up with you. I really like the 8600, especially because of design and practicality/ease of use.

it had a fantastic camera and sound system. but--- the phone auto-powered on and off.
the charging wouldnt work finally i got sick of it after the charger in the phone actually came out. i didnt drop the phone once. until i threw it away. so im getting the new "glimmer" from alltel once they run out of the 8600's.

ya... just wonderin', um now im thinking of getting the slide cuz i hate how the screen half of it folds over the keypad half. just wondering would there b an advantage to getting the slide even though i like flips cuz they protect the screen. im also condsidering a blackberry pearl.

Truly, I have no right to tell you what is best, but I purchased a flip phone because it reduces the scratches on the screen, etc. Again, as far as I know, Blackberries are front screen only. The only difference between a flip LG 8700 and a slide LG 8700 is that the flip one has a front LCD time and date display, even if you did not flip the phone open. The slide phone does not. In addition, you may consider also purchasing a protective case for the slide phone, if you purchase one.

yeah, im finding cince i m in canada i have to go to a place called Rogers, so they only have the slide and personally, i don't care for nokias, samsungs, or motorolas. i think i will get a case for the slide because it really will bug me if it gets scratched. and i've decided not to get a blackberry because of the price and within 2 weeks the buttons get flimsy. so i think the slide is the way to go.

I live in Canada as well, but I purchased my LG 8700 flip phone at Bell. Rogers did not have it for sale, nor does it have the LG 8700 flip version now. Congratulations and enjoy your new phone.

this handset is def not a guys handset. The small keypad sucks and I find myself misdialing often due to the small numbers. Another thing I dont like is there is no message waiting indicator/call indicator on the outside. This handset is a fingerprint nightmare. Every little smudge shows up and youll find yourself constantly wiping it off

I have this phone and the hinge is getting a little loose. I think that snapping noise it was making is making the hinge that way. My brother even has a friend who has this phone and the top screen won't stay up unless you hold it like that.
Also, the side buttons are getting rusty. No idea why.
It's a good phone, but not as good as it was.

i dont like it because the PAINT KEEPS CHIPPING.. anyone else agree? its actually more fragile than the chocolate because its less "brick-like"... ive gone through 2 already in 8 months.

you cant get it anymore.. but they do have a new phone that replaced it.. there are some differences in the new one.. but i is by far way more sleek looking and more durable looking.. its the lgvx8700

Yeah. Now I have it (well I've had it for almost a month). And there's this little 'snapping' noise when I open and close it (that's the best way I can describe it). But other than that, it's a great phone. No regrets. =]

I just got this phone. I love it so far. It does have it's pros and cons... mostly pros. I think the only cons I have with it so far are with the speakerphone not being very loud, the flat keypad, the small and slippery side buttons(unavoidable on a phone this thin), and the microSD slot which can easily get the memory card stuck in there(don't push it in too much). The phone doesn't come with miscroSD card but they aren't too expensive if you don't buy from Verizon.

If you take verizon earbuds (which sound terrible) cut them off and solder a 3.5 female adapter to them you can use whatever headphones you like. Can't download free java games and put them on this phone with Gthing... yet (same with chocolate i think). I use this phone as my mp3 player which saves me like 300 bucks and it looks great. Modification of headphones is a must but not hard.

Most boring review EVER. I got one, only paid like 20 bucks for it after term was up. Display is great looking, camera is better than most i've seen, and it has features like inverting colors, sepia, b&w. At first i was very dissapointed with music. Actually sounds pretty good from mono speaker but wont accept varying bitrate mp3... some mp3 it just don't like. NO HEADPHONE JACK, just like all phones. Have to buy memory, (will take 2 gig) have to buy music kit seperate (30 bucks).

I have a question for you...how do you make the external screen stay lit for as much time as you want? I have the VX8600 but it annoys me when I have to press a button or open the phone to see the time because the external screen shuts off after 5 seconds.

I have the 8600 and I like it a lot. I have played with the Chocolate 8300 and the touch controls on the front are very annoying and don't keep up with you. I really like the 8600, especially because of design and practicality/ease of use.
