sir,i would like to ask for your opinion: i did the test lamp method of the 1st and 2nd video,so i have ign positive to my + coil terminal,i have ground,i also did the coil test from your other video, and when i did a spark plug test with a jumper cable i did not get spark from the plug,i did it with new plug and old plug and/or i have thin spark or nothing...so if i have good coil, good points, condenser, the cap and the rotor must be failed,,well i bought new rotor and cap still no spark :( why?
We poor inhabitants of planet dim need just a little more help if the test is not a success. Sort of like a link to a flow chart. In my case the test lamp stays on all the time so I have what? Permanent earth? Permanent open? Points not opening at all?

If the lamps stays on all the time the points don't open, the condenser is shorted internally, or the wire from the coil to the points is shorted to ground someplace.
Wow thank you but we have 2.8 chevy with no fire coming from a new coil. the coil itself as well as the pick up coil and module all test out good. And the old coil was cracked on the bottom like it overheated and melted open. we also have 12v coming from ignition side to coil and when key left in the on postion the new coil gets hot also like it wants to burn up as well? Please help. show another video w/ this type of coil and how it all works. Your graditude will be deeply respected. Thanku, L
the coil will only get hott if it is saturated - meaning it is being earthed out by the ignition module *power is flowing through it* so the problem is some where in the module - dizzy or ECU.

Why can't your MossMotors show some respect by giving you a private space where we don't get to hear others and you don't have to whisper either?

This is a good test, thanks mossmotorscom..But personally i like testing with a DVOM for a more accurate reading and compare with manufacture specs

Great video. Tried this on my Healey and found the points to be bad and the coil good. This simple test saved me a ton of time.

Can this test be performed with a car fitted with an aftermarket electronic ignition system (Aldon) on a Herald?
