  • Mi piace molto Beatrice di Tenda, tanto da annoverarla tra i capolavori belliniani, anche se ritenuta " minore " rispetto ad altre opere più famose.Cantata poi dalla meravigliosa Joan.

  • This is so brilliant it's ridiculous. There will never be another voice as incredible.

  • grande Joan

    queen of belcanto...farewell

    thanks

  • su canto embriaga y te lleva al extasis total.es interpretado y sufrido.transmite ese dolor que todos llevamos dentro.que lleva la bandera de la verdad y de la libertad del espiritu

  • She is perfection of vocal technic!

  • can someone tell me where this recording comes from ??? I have never heard it before

  • The studio recording of Beatrice di Tenda.

  • -What an incredibly beautiful photo of Sutherland showing her as a true Diva, happy and before her stage transformation to a Drag Queen.

-why on earth did she ever dye her hair orange?

  • I have news for you her hair here was already red.

  • It was brown.

  • This was during her first seasons of Lucia and believe me when I tell you she had already changed her hair color in person and on stage and the red looked great. Don't ever remember it orange, but then maybe you are a friend of hers.

  • @highbaritone

Yes, she tried several colors in the 50's....including blonde and black. Richard liked the red best and asked her to leave it that way. She did for quite some time.

  • I wonder why Joan sang Beatrice for such a short time; just a hand full of performances in the early to mid 1960s. She didn't retire Elvira until the mid 1980s and that role requires a 20 minute mad scene, so I don't think she stopped singing Beatrice because it was too difficult. Anyway, I like the picture. Sutherland was lucky because she could travel with her family, unlike most opera singers.

  • check out the aria "Ma la sola ohime son Io" (one of the most difficult arias ever written for the human voice) in Sutherland's live performances in early 60s and you will find the answer to your question ;)

  • It is a beautiful piece, which she sings with her typical brilliance, but I think she always associated it with the death of her mother Muriel.

  • A beautiful picture from La Stupenda!

    Wooow.

Lets say this, Beatrice was a wonderfull part for her.

I have the recording from her debut in New York, the day her mother had died!

Its diffrent from the studio recording, more lived...can I say?:-s

But this is the way TRUE Belcanto needs to be sung.

    Sparkling as ever!

Pitty she stopped singing this, rather early in the carreer.

But then, so many gems came after!!!!

    Brava La Stupenda.
