SGU is a great sci-fi. I loved SG-1 and Atlantis, but I don't like SGU as much yet (I'm sure I just have to watch more of it, I've only see season 1.) Please, don't get me wrong and flame because I'M NOT DISSING SGU. It's just that there's so much drama that as far as TV goes, of course non-SG fans are going to like it. It appeals to a larger audience. I would just like a broader range of character personalities. They seem so angry & tense all the time. I liked SG-1 because it was more relaxing.
Really don't understand most of the nay-sayers. I enjoyed SG1 but have really loved SGU too, for different reasons. Are people upset because they think it is bad, or because is is not a carbon copy?
The accusation that it is not Sci-fi is quite astounding and its strange that SGU seems to be gaining far more praise from non SG fans, however anything that can help bring new people to the Sci-Fi genre that I love is a great thing in my eyes.
@Pl4stix I susspect it's because the hardcore fans are huge nerds with no interpersonal skills and therfore can't appreciate quality character interactions that go beyond the normal 2 dimensions. I love all the stargates but sgu is quickly becoming my favorite.
@RFPegasus really...you should give it an other chance...it is true that the firs 10 episodes were slow...but the latest ones were a little more exciting...
You'll be getting one! Stargate: Extinction will be the name of the Atlantis movie. The third SG1 movie is untitled except for the work title Tzaro or something like that.
Why are ye all badmouthing the damn thing? SG1 was great and Altantis was good too. I've seen the trailer and SGU looks unbelievable. Why can't ye just wait for it, watch it and love it like the rest of us instead of saying it'll be crap before you even know anything about it.
i LOVE this show... But the personally i think the movies that they make about the series are not needed, i would prefer to watch another season. not a movie.
it is and it isnt the show dosnt have much to do with sg1 or sga as like sga had with sg1 and there not connecting like sg1 and sga did sgu will just be by its self no other stargate playing at the same time
It's a new series based in the Stargate world. They plan on at least 3 seasons and it will be more serialized.(meaning the episodes won't be as stand alone as SG1 and SGA,but rather a continuous story throughout the episodes.)
I see now. I guess I have a different idea of what a "spin off" is. In any case I think SGU is going to rock and I can't wait to see the ship "Destiny".
I have an idea for a TV Show/Movie that I really like. Basically its a "alternate" universe in that a similar planet to earth and its inhabitants (basically humans) arrive at Earth via space ship/craft, but they are not aware of what "Earth" is and Earth considers them aliens. I will say I use "alternate" losely. Its more a differnt univ.
I've heard from numerous sources that its a "third entity" aka stand alone series. I honestly don't care one way or the other, but here is an excerpt which I've seen on at least a few different sites:
[Stargate producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper conceived Stargate Universe as "a completely separate, third entity" in the live-action Stargate franchise[35] as opposed to Stargate Atlantis, which was created as a spin-off from the first series Stargate SG-1.]
What does he mean "Star Gate is in a strong place" It's not on the air that is never a stong place to be in. I've heard it will be like Voyager : a lost crew trying to get home. Try some thing new.
when they made a barbie out of Carter and got Vala, that was that period, when they wanted the hormone driven male audiance. I think the cancelation proved them, that thats not the right path...
In my opinion, Stargate is f****** awesome no matter what form you throw it into. The first season of any spinoff will always run into issues, so here's wishing good luck to SGU!
SGU is not a spinoff. Stargate franchise is one of the best franchises out there. I'm also a Star Trek fan and Star Wars fan. I know I'm not "supposed" to like both ST and SW, but I don't get all the one is better than the other, since when did this galaxy get so big, that there was only room for one scifi/fntasy movie/series? Each one (SG, ST and SW) vary in all aspects as they are similar.
Granted ST and SG are probably more similar than any of the other combos, but that's just my take.
"they're never going to risk money that they don't need to" They need to- they have almost lost everyones attention- not releasing the game before launching a totally new seiries= bad move.
Im 16, younger audiences watch family channel crap- i saw intellgence in sg1 and sga, not anymore though.
"Not a chance in hell. The cost of doing that would be enormous."
Yes that is true but,They made 2 successful serials and 2 movies and now the SGU serial and who nows what more if they can't make one final movie no one can and about that chance in hell I'm pretty shoure they have it :D (sory for my bad English)
And at the end of Universe I hope they made a last movie about SG1,SGA and the universe team how they are all in 1 movie and are protecting hummanity or something that will be owseme too.
People chill out a litle.I haven't wach Ds9 or Voyager. But Strandet on a uncontrolable ship is a cool story just because Star Trek failed doen't mean that SGU will faile too.Atlantis was really cool too bad they cancell it but it's nice to see new characters ecpessially knowing that the old ones WILL BE BACK.New SG1 movie New SGA Movie and A New serial how cool is that?
at least they are kind enough to the fans to keep on showing us our favo' teams, even if it is in a few movies... (plus that should be kind of profitable if many fans buy the dvds... :) )
You know realcoldacid, you might need to check your facts, most of the ppl i have seen in aus , that liked Bab5 and bothe Stargates series, tend to pool aroudn the Next Generation rather than DS9 and much more than Voyager, general concensus, was that Enterprise the prequel was as good as STNG..... and i agree =)
I certainly hope there will be another SG-1 movie, cause all this consists of speculations, and I would like the movie to be assured. And I'm also very happy Brad once mentioned that the new movie should concentrate its plot on Jack O'Neill! :))) Wow, I've really missed him in 9th and 10th season of SG-1... It'll be amazing to have him again in Stargate!
TNG was the best for me! I will not judge SGU since i dont know how it will come out until it does.... Loved BSG and i hope there is a BSG feel to the series since it was gritty and dark giving a more realistic approach to mankind!! i miss richard dean anderson.... he was entertaining as hell
Star Gate Atlantis, is really cool, I think it does justice to the Gate franchise. SGU...we'll see, but I have a really good feeling about this one. Bigger production and all that. I agree though that it's going to have a BSG feel to it. Bringing in Robert Carlyle sort of sealed the deal there I always wondered what StarGate would be like if it were more serious. I don't see how they can do cross-over stuff like they did with the other two shows though. I'll miss Mckay, the arogant basterd lol
Ask five different Trekkies which series was best, get six different answers. (Can't forget the animated series!)
Personally DS9 was my favourite, but you'll find that fans of the Stargate series (and, unrelatedly, Babylon 5) skew toward DS9 as opposed to the other Star Trek series as their fave.
something none of you has considered: all these programs are filmed at Bridge Studios in BC....... and there only so many production people and equipment to go around, lord of the rings had to wait for Xena and Hercules to wrap before they could shoot..... and I thought DS9 was the best ST series too........
I'm a huge SG fan, but I'm not so sure about SGU, it seems to me like how Star Trek started making spinoffs that were never really up to the original. I hope this isn't the case since Atlantis lived up to SG:1 IMO. I hope SGU isn't the eqivalant of Deep Space Nine.
I too find myself concerned about SGU. I enjoyed SG-1 and Atlantis quite a bit, but SGU so far looks like an attempt to pull in the new BSG and meld it with the Stargate continuity.
I'll not denounce it yet, but SGU is certainly on my On Report list.
Arg...I just can`t deal...Movies DO NOT equate to 20 hours of television. I want character developmental, not two hours of action (which is what the movie will be undoubtedly be). My only beef with SGU is it feels like its replacing Atlantis. Like the producers thought `right i`m bored of this. Lets cancel it an make another goddamn show.`` fuck. 5 seasons is not enough.
i knew it, more stargate movies :D and i agree with you Brad, stargate has become awesome, but dont you waste it unwisely with canceling the show, you still need to solve wraith problem!
when i hear they want a younger cast i take that as trying to bring sex apeal and what did you find out something about the cast of sgu. one more thing off topic did any one notice that they reused the actor from sg1 from the link episode and used him as a ethosian on sga at leat i think they did
if they want better ratings for stargate they need to show the series from the beginig because i got one of my friends into to the show about a year ago and he still dosnt get whats going on at times their are so many episodes to watch it would take weeks just to get caught up its not a matter of sex apeal or a younger cast its just hard to start watching when their is so much history. realy do not see why they think a younger cast will give them more viewers people dont watch for sex apeal
I agree with this notion as well. With Carlyle at the helm I hope HE is not only the lead, but the "Quigon" for the rest of the team. Maybe even the intellectual that Jackson, Carter and McKay brought to the other shows. That would be nice. The lead is the intellectual as opposed to the action lead we are all familiar with. That is speculative well wishing though.
The petition numbers seem to indicate otherwise. Still, no amount of petitions or pleas can save a series once it hits the 100 episode barrier. It is just far sexier to start fresh with a low cost cast and an established mythos than keep paying on something that can make you more in the D2DVD market as movies...
(continued from my last post) at the time, and then they tried to do the same and add an atagonist and a running theme but it wasn't strong enough to save the series.
I can see universe running into the same problems as DS9 because stuck on a ship whose direction they can't change makes the storyline very rigid and I think it is going to be more charachter based than any other stargate so I think they will need one of the already established charachters
Ah but seasons 1-4 of DS9 did really bad and the series was nearly cancelled which is why the introduced the dominion war and took star trek to a new boundry with one ongoing theme aka the war which had never been done before.
This not only showed in some episodes the dark nature of the human race but added an atagonist and promised lots of space battles.
This also turned the series into more of a soap than its predecessors.
The ongoing theme was also carried onto voyger but not enterprise
Almost always? Yeah. While commercially successful, Revolutions and RotJ weren't really well reviewed.
This thing about Universe ...it has me on edge, 'cause reading the wikipedia entry, it makes me think "Star Trek Voyager", but in the Stargate universe. In other words, it's going to suck.
Exciting for you maybe, but not the fans! Are you deaf? THE FANS WANT MORE OF THE ATLANTIS STORY WITHOUT MOVIES! How can you say that you think the fans feel the way you do even with the HUGE outcry against the show being canceled? GRR!
I honestly have high hopes for it. Literally grew up watching Stargate (I was around three or four when I started watching, I'm such a Nerd) so it's sort of like getting to meet up with old friends. Well, friends of old friends.
Besides, Atlantis was awesome, better then a spin-off normally is. This will hopefully be the same.
You and me both man. I watched it from episode one. and i was young. That was when it was on showtime. And everybody threw a hissy fit when Atlantis was coming on, and people complained, but it was amazing! I really hope it does well. Geekdom FTW!
The only thing I'm afraid of is I might be getting my hopes to high. I mean, this is a major change of format, and when writers do that, it either flies superhumanly high or sinks.
I'm a huge fan of all things stargate, but i'm really uneasy about Stargate Universe. If you read the wikipedia page on the show, most of the characters are 20somethings, and military types. One of my favourite parts of the shows were the intellectual characters, like Daniel Jackson, and Rodney McKay, not to mention Carter...it always came down to a genius plan and some heroics from O'Neil, or Sheppherd that saved the day..I wonder if we'll see the same dynamic in Stargate universe?..
Stargate Universe how cheesey they dont know the mistake they made ending Atlantis thats the best thing on Scifi IDIOTS this is will be your down fall.
Dude, you need to chill. They wouldn't have canceled Atlantis if they honestly didn't think Universe will be a kick-ass show. At least give it a chance.
You know your right its not like in history every part three of everything has not failed.
Spiderman 3, Bad boys 3, Lethal weapon 3 sure... Stargate Universe might pick up a few fans who have nothing else to watch but I will leave it at that, We will see.
I'd like Atlantis to continue, but if they are ending the series, I hope they do it well. The final episode of SG-1 was a bit of an irritant, but the two films so far have been excellent. I'd like for them to end Atlantis better than they did SG-1, and then make the Atlantis films just as good, if not better than the SG-1s.
Universe. That's just gonna be cool. So very very cool :)
We are the fans dummy if your calling people stupid. You are a fan too not a writer, producer etc... And yes even though I was referring to movies in the part three's discussion, name one thing that has been successful in part three of any movie/series. And as for as DS9 Its number 9!!! Not three and thats what might happen with stargate if they mess up with Universe there might have to be a SG9 which wouldnt be bad. I'm just saying.
SG-1: ended.
SG: A: cancelled.
SG: U: cancelled.
Stargate: Worlds: cancelled.
Yeah, an exciting time, Brad and the franchise is going strong. Uh-huh, just keep telling yourself that.

i highly doubt it. bet he'll feature in the new film.
Todds one of the best characters in the series after all
tardiselliot 2 years ago
also, for a wraith, hes very trustable. And i think he still does not have the feading arm.
tigerlalalalnr4nr4 2 years ago
i think he might be feedin again because he had to reverse the effects of the drug to survive
tardiselliot 2 years ago
i think they gave him the newly improved virus so he cant feed anymore.

i knew it, more stargate movies :D and i agree with you Brad, stargate has become awesome, but dont you waste it unwisely with canceling the show, you still need to solve wraith problem!

when i hear they want a younger cast i take that as trying to bring sex apeal and what did you find out something about the cast of sgu. one more thing off topic did any one notice that they reused the actor from sg1 from the link episode and used him as a ethosian on sga at leat i think they did
phil427688 3 years ago
if they want better ratings for stargate they need to show the series from the beginig because i got one of my friends into to the show about a year ago and he still dosnt get whats going on at times their are so many episodes to watch it would take weeks just to get caught up its not a matter of sex apeal or a younger cast its just hard to start watching when their is so much history. realy do not see why they think a younger cast will give them more viewers people dont watch for sex apeal
phil427688 3 years ago

PariahOfTheKOHLM 3 years ago
(continued from my last post) at the time, and then they tried to do the same and add an atagonist and a running theme but it wasn't strong enough to save the series.
I can see universe running into the same problems as DS9 because stuck on a ship whose direction they can't change makes the storyline very rigid and I think it is going to be more charachter based than any other stargate so I think they will need one of the already established charachters
I hope its good and look foreward to it
discodave200983 3 years ago
Ah but seasons 1-4 of DS9 did really bad and the series was nearly cancelled which is why the introduced the dominion war and took star trek to a new boundry with one ongoing theme aka the war which had never been done before.
This not only showed in some episodes the dark nature of the human race but added an atagonist and promised lots of space battles.
This also turned the series into more of a soap than its predecessors.
The ongoing theme was also carried onto voyger but not enterprise
discodave200983 3 years ago

RodgeLinkbot 3 years ago 2
You and me both man. I watched it from episode one. and i was young. That was when it was on showtime. And everybody threw a hissy fit when Atlantis was coming on, and people complained, but it was amazing! I really hope it does well. Geekdom FTW!
Wrestler110 3 years ago

I think Voyager was the best Star Trek over all. Some of the best episodes were under TNG, but comparing the series as a whole, VOYAGER was the best.

Also I thought Voyager better than DS9

Stargate Universe how cheesey they dont know the mistake they made ending Atlantis thats the best thing on Scifi IDIOTS this is will be your down fall.
mickeysnelly 3 years ago
Dude, you need to chill. They wouldn't have canceled Atlantis if they honestly didn't think Universe will be a kick-ass show. At least give it a chance.
tommydizzle92 3 years ago
You know your right its not like in history every part three of everything has not failed.
Spiderman 3, Bad boys 3, Lethal weapon 3 sure... Stargate Universe might pick up a few fans who have nothing else to watch but I will leave it at that, We will see.
mickeysnelly 3 years ago
I don't need another star trek.I want Atlantis ((((((((
lorddevaako 3 years ago
Atlantis was just starting to get really good. It was darker, and more violent. BLAMO canceled.
Sci-Fi is such a stupid network. He has a point though, Continuum was good.
Hopefully the SGA movie will be better.

I want SG-1 back ;(

They got too greedy. Atlantis is the best sci fi EVER and they cancel it so it can support their new show , while making money as a movie....
They suck....

Save StarGate Atlantis!!

So very very cool :)

i want atlantis and universe. but maybe it's good they end atlantis before it starts to suck.

we don't feel the same, we want atlantis NOT universe.

You can't speak for the fans.
01000001011100100111 3 years ago
We are the fans dummy if your calling people stupid. You are a fan too not a writer, producer etc... And yes even though I was referring to movies in the part three's discussion, name one thing that has been successful in part three of any movie/series. And as for as DS9 Its number 9!!! Not three and thats what might happen with stargate if they mess up with Universe there might have to be a SG9 which wouldnt be bad. I'm just saying.
