Ron Paul has come out many times supporting secession and state nullification and even commented that the South was right during the Civil War. Do you think he is creating a populous movement so when the SHTF a great majority of southern states will rally behind him? I am not sure how the country would be divided up because his supports diverse.

DEMCAD, I have a question about my next gun purchase. I want to get either a Mossberg 100 ATR (308), or a Wasr 7.62x39. If everything did hit the fan say next year, what would be the best one of these two to get?

@casanovaarmy For SHTF I agree. Just watch the quality of the WASR you buy. Century Arms has been known to have a klunker or 2, built from parts kits. I would look at Arsenal or I/O AKs. Higher quality, a little more money. And you can still stock up on tins of Russian 7.62 real cheap. A bolt action may not be enough lead launching in a sticky situation. Personally I have both, so I have the different requirements covered. And 2 AR-15s for all that American 5.56 that can be "reappropriated"!
@combatjm89 Sorry, this was for guitarguy! If you do get a better quality AK, consider getting a few boxes of Lapua 7.62 x 39. I have a stock of it for my SKS. Lapua is expensive, but VERY accurate. The AKs I mentioned usually have US barrels, so Lapua + those AKs will boost accuracy to a point. Plus you can reload the Lapua, reloading the Russian steel stuff is almost impossible w/o tearing up your dies. And then re-priming the Berdan primers is a bitch. Good luck!

It depends on your situation and what you want to use it for. 308 is a caliber that the U.S. military uses so it should be easier to find. However, you shouldn't expect to find ammo during a SHTF situation.
@DEMCAD Since I live in an urban area, I value FIREPOWER over ACCURACY. After all, if you're in the city or suburbans, any fight you will get into will be probably be short range. So I would prefer the AK because of it's 30 round magazine. If I were in the country, hunting and shooting range would be a higher priorities, so I would consider the 308.
@guitarguy1789 If I may help. if SHTF you want a gun that can be more than a gun. the one rifle is just that one rifle. An AK is every gun for every situation. You can hunt you can survive. AK!!! which one is up to you man good luck!
@guitarguy1789 I suggest neither. If you decide the bolt gun suits you get a Savage preferably a model 10 or 11 but if you want to save a good chunk of money get the axis model. Savage is going to give you the most value for your money. Mossberg firearms offer a lot of value too but they are really a shotgun company that has ventured into rifles. As far as a semi-auto carbine-type weapon, I'd recommend a Kel-tec SU-16 or a better AK. If you do get a WASR learn as much as you can first.
@gboyd242 Thanks. I was kind of interested in the Savage rifles. I've done some research on their rifles and have considered buying one over a Mossberg. Even though I'm interested in a semi-auto carbine, it might be a little out of my budget right now. As DEMCAD stated, I should use certain kinds of rifles depending where I live and on a given situation. Since I live out in a rural area, I probably should invest in a bolt-action gun. Ports could be occupied to signify an opposition to commerce.
Like you said(in other words), port activity have very little to do with how the corporate elite makes their money so I think the OWS were infiltrated in a way that influence this trend of occupying ports, to have people deem them are protectionists, commies, anti-market ignorant kids. Many of them are already, that is why it wouldn't have been hard to lead them in this direction.
Blockading ports, might disturb port activity at some point, and as common people are dependant on ports for a lot of things it could also serve the purpose of driving these common people against a movement that is partially against corporatism. Then you have the media jump in and spin everything in favor of the elite, even calling the OWS a "Libertarian movement".
Keep up the great work on keeping things real. One thing you must be aware of... not get too caught up in the truth of things and forget to put more time into finding solutions to the existing problems/issues. What big business/gov count on that people will put all their efforts in complaining about the problems and little effort in finding solutions to those problems and doing what they can to resolve it..

It depends on your situation and what you want to use it for. 308 is a caliber that the U.S. military uses so it should be easier to find. However, you shouldn't expect to find ammo during a SHTF situation.

@DEMCAD Since I live in an urban area, I value FIREPOWER over ACCURACY. After all, if you're in the city or suburbans, any fight you will get into will be probably be short range. So I would prefer the AK because of it's 30 round magazine. If I were in the country, hunting and shooting range would be a higher priorities, so I would consider the 308.
Urban: AK definitely
Suburban: AK probably, ATR maybe

@guitarguy1789 I suggest neither. If you decide the bolt gun suits you get a Savage preferably a model 10 or 11 but if you want to save a good chunk of money get the axis model. Savage is going to give you the most value for your money. Mossberg firearms offer a lot of value too but they are really a shotgun company that has ventured into rifles. As far as a semi-auto carbine-type weapon, I'd recommend a Kel-tec SU-16 or a better AK. If you do get a WASR learn as much as you can first.

@gboyd242 Thanks. I was kind of interested in the Savage rifles. I've done some research on their rifles and have considered buying one over a Mossberg. Even though I'm interested in a semi-auto carbine, it might be a little out of my budget right now. As DEMCAD stated, I should use certain kinds of rifles depending where I live and on a given situation. Since I live out in a rural area, I probably should invest in a bolt-action gun.
