@masondajoker - I've heard of heat cable. You can use it, but I think it would be more cost-effective and be more efficient to heat with the tape. You'd have to loop the cable over several times in order to get it to heat the tubs well enough. But it's most certainly doable!
i LOVE this shelving unit!! i'm looking for something to hold my shopping overflow(think extreme couponing) and this unit looks like it might be perfect...and you said it was only $40 (for 5 of the shelves)?? hope they still have em...
@Bloodygeek11 - The hot spot will be directly above the heat tape, but since the tubs are so long (3 ft or so), the other end of the tub will be at or near room temperature, providing a cool spot for the snake if they get too warm.
@catfishpatrol - Insults go a lot further if the one being insulted has a clue as to what the insult means. 'Cause if not, it's just funny. Insults also go a lot further if the person doing the insulting doesn't come across as severely lacking in the education department.
How are you, quick question, what shelving model is that? I'm looking to buy one, I looked online and saw the 5 shelf ones, did you adjust that on your own or did you buy it like that? also as far as heating do you use a thermostat to control temps? Also is the shelf you use heat resistant?
@dsgbupt - Sorry for the very, very late reply. I don't know the model number, but I have one of the five-shelf ones (three feet long and ~16 inches wide) and a four-shelf one that's four feet long (same width). I bought two of each so I could stack them on top of each other. You can adjust the shelf heights to whatever you want. Yep, I use a Herpstat thermostat, and the shelves themselves are metal, so no worries about heat damaging the shelves.
ill have to take a vid of my rat rack im doing tomorrow for u to check out!! thanks for the idea with the shelf, it uses lab cages and the same rack but smaller
Have you heard of heat wire I think it was? If so do you think that will be good for a rack like yours?

MY question is
How do you get a hot spot in these tubs??
do heat mats/pads not have ONE temp
but snakes need a cool side and a hot spot
I'd really love your help here its the one thing keeping me back from making tubs

Yes, do! I'd like to see it! I'll eventually need to have rat/mice racks, so it'll be good to see how well it works!
