  • Thanks for these reviews. I have always been an old school video game lover and the Turbo Grafx is one I am just now looking more into. This is one of the games I am on the bubble of downloading on my Wii. Any other titles you would recommend? I have Neutopia which is great! Thanks I'll be watching more!

  • @salozmen29 Thank you for watching and supporting the show. Have a great one!

  • @salozmen29 this is NECESSARY on the wii! Way too fun

  • @DctrEvil17 Well said!!!! ;)

  • Ahh, even Atlus has made a few games for the TG-16. Their fame knows no bounds!

  • @chaosgreyblood Ha ha. How true! :)

Thanks for taking time to watch the video.

  • Im acctually surprised no companies tried to carbon-copy this gem. Weather it be back then or now... weird. I mean the WII got a remake of an obscure (but excellent) platformer like La Mulana... Dungeon Explorer remake with players around the globe? Move over wacraft...

  • What hideous cover art!

  • @FluffyBunniesOnFire Ha ha. Yeah....Turob was not known for its amazing cover art. The PC-Engine versions were SO much better> :)

  • so the sega cd version with the same name isn't a port? interesting. i'll have to download this sucker on VC then.

  • @oRecluse99o No, supposedly it is "similar" but also has its own design. I'm just going of what my friend Pete said, who has played it. You know? :) :)

  • this game used a lot of different music, and the beats & tunes were kinda tight. I remember bobbing my head a little when I used to play this.

Its been a lot of years, but I also remember feelin like this game & MotoRoader, made owning a TurboTap worthwhile.

anyways, thanks for the review. peace

  • @GeorgeWashingtonX Definitely! The music in this one is awesome. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • Hey - Natas backwards is, is, is, SATAN!!!!

Never put two and two together when I first got this game in 1989. Loved this one. Great review as always and I hope you're doing well :)

  • hmm, i wonder if the Sega CD version has added features or if it's the same game?

great review as always spida1a :)

  • Me and my friend have beat this twice now without using a single life crystal we are going to try and beat it with every character eventually.

  • @AntichristDemoncore Excellent!! :)

  • @spida1a This game is much better than Double Dungeons (which I think you should make a review on that) and having auto fire is a must for this game and that why a use a NES Advantage plugged into the Wii's Gamecube port via the NES Retroport adapter I saw on a RetrowareTV Sold Separately episode since the Wii controllers lack TG-16 Turbo Switches that prevent carpal tunnel from hitting the buttons so much and getting banged up thumbs.

  • I recall this was one of the only TurboGrafx games I played with an Adventure element, which is why I enjoyed this game back in the early 90s. Aside from being fun and challenging, I also enjoyed the music. I just got this on Virtual Console recently, and have been enjoying it since. I look forward to Dungeon Explorer 2 on the Virtual Console as well since it looks like quite a game.

  • @InAnimateGamer Yes, they definitely need to release the second one on the VC. It's awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting my friend. :)

  • This review made get the game, and to be honest, its a lot of fun.

  • @terence1m1 Excellent! I am glad you enjoy it!! :)

  • This is definitely a COOL game ! I also LOVED the sequel ( ON SUPER CD ) !! SWEET !! Great review as always spida1a !! HOLY CRAP ! Just out of curiosity, I looked on EBAY to see if anyone was selling Dungeon Explorer 2. Brand new, and unopened, it's going for $400.00 !! THAT'S FREAKIN' INSANE !! You can buy a brand new PS3 for less ! Glad I still have my copy of it, back when this game sold for $50.00 !!!! I don't see him/her selling that game anytime soon !!

  • Ha ha. Yeah, it goes for crazy money. I'm glad I picked it up for a reasonable price a long time ago. :)

  • Good review. Is it just me or does the reviewer sound like the doc that tried to make Arnold take the pill in the movie Total Recall?

  • this game has excellent music. it drew me in as a kid.

  • My friend and I beat this game in one go neither of us dying once. I was the "Knome" and I had so many agility boots by the end of the game I was outrunning my projectiles.

  • Later on a lot of Turbo games used more of there original Japanese artwork. It's a shame they just hired some guy of the street to do some of earlier titles.

  • I'm going to get this now. I can't wait!

  • I think you'll like it. :)

  • My favorite game for the system. I bought a turbografx because I played this at a friends house back in 90. He had a turbo tab and there were times when 3 or 4 of us would play at the same time. 5 turbo chips imho. Nice review.

  • Yes, definitely. It is such a fun multi-player game.

    Thanks for watching!

  • It really is fun isn't it? I haven't played it in years until recently and it seems a bit more difficult than way back when but, good challenge makes for good fun.

  • The Wii Virtual Console is nice and unlike the TurboGrafx one you don't need a Tubo Tap(why didn't NEC put in two controller ports?) to have four play co-op,and with the Wii NES Retroport people can use a NES controller for that old TG controller feel and turbo fire like the old TurboGrafx had. Now we just need Dungeon Explorer 2 on Wii and its all good too bad no online Wii play.

  • ya, actually, i just downloaded it yesterday. its a good game, if any1 hates it, well, thats their problem, not ours. right?

  • wow you are the kind of person that should do review.

  • Hey, thanks a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    :)

  • dude. u own!!! plz, post more reviews, i need more ideas for turbo graifax games. thanks a ton, ur #1 fan, mark101102

  • Hey, you got it. Things are getting settled down here finally (just moved) so.....hope to start getting some more reviews done soon. :)

    Thanks!

  • if you're open to different genres and possibly emulating check out Final Match Tennis, even to this day its the best tennis game imo. reason i say emulating is because the game was only released in japan, cheers

  • Thanks for this review, I think I will be picking this one up :)

  • You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it. I have to admit to being a somewhat "sucker" for this game and for Gauntlet. So......I always really liked it.

The sequel rules as well! LOL! :)

    Thanks!

  • I didn't know abou this game, and it looks fantatic! I'm gonna try it right now.

I see there is a sequel to this game for the PC Engine CD. Is it better than this one?

  • It's great! I reviewed it right after this one. Check my Playlist for Turbo Views. :)

  • Still to this day one of my favorite games. I spent days with my family playing this one. My favorite level had to be the Tigerbeast and the Medusa's!

  • Ha, yes. I loved those levels.

    Thanks for watching!!

  • 1,000th viewer, yay :D

  • Another great one.

If you get a chance, please do Blazing Lazers and Military Madness :)

  • Thanks!

Okay, I have quite a number of requests already (and I'm trying to "hit" them all). But, I'll definitely put yours on the list. Two really awesome games!

  • This game was one of my favorites. The music, story, and atmosphere really affected me as a child.

  • Same here. Love it!

  • Tell me about... I just started running this game on an emulator today and was almost in tears from the nostalgia (funny because this is also the name of a village in the game.) of playing it again after so many years, and the music is awesome. ALOT of the msic has been stuck in my head for years.

  • Subscribed! Awesome review man.

  • Thanks a lot for subscribing and the comment :)

  • Looks like a classic that has an addicting feel to it. If only the Turbo Grafx 16 was more popular. Ah well. It's on the VC, right?

  • Yes, definitely. :)

  • nice review mate

  • Fantastic review! :)

Don't forget that the crystal each boss leaves behind will change colour according to the respective ability. (i.e. "gold" will increase your agility, "blue" your attack, "purple" your strength, and "green" your intelligence or magic. So, after you kill the boss, just wait for the crystal to change to the colour/ability you want most.

  • Thanks!!!!!

Yes, that is a great feature. It's funny......in single player mode, I hardly ever even waited for it to change and seemed to plow through the game just fine. Must be my ADD. Hee hee. But, I remember it being pretty valuable in multi-player mode.

  • I've really slowed down on the VC downloading because there is just something special about having the physical hardware. I had to decide between a PC Engine or a Sega CD model 1 to buy with my christmas money and I picked the Sega CD model 1 (since I've wanted one since I was 10). This game looks great, I think I'll actually dig for a copy of this instead of downloading it.

  • Definitely a game I want to play :D

  • that was the best title ever

  • Holy S**t! you never cease to amaze me

  • that game reminds me kinda of Smash TV.

Is this game on the VC?

  • Yes, it is available. That last I checked it was 600 points, but not 100% sure.

  • yea they are usually 600 points, I will prob buy it then

  • One of the most underated game for the TG16.I don't even know how i miss it when i had the console befor. That's untile i got the console again years later and a copy of DE.Then i discover,it is a realy good take on the gauntlet formula beside out doing it.Not to mention getting DE2 for myself as well later on.

  • Definitely. For a first year game especially, it had a lot going for it (and I took that into consideration, you know?). DE2? Yup, next review in the works, once I finish the game. hee hee.

  • Cool when ya review DE2 it's a worthy sequel.Though i'll tell ya it was pricey for me,getting a copy of it last year.

  • It's in the works......and it's quite an epic game. Love it!

  • Again awesome review on one of my first Turbo games. The amount of depth and intense action in DE was unparallel for 1989. Of course I made the mistake of doing my review of DE with someone who sucks so we didn't go too far.

  • Is that Gnome spelt with a K? Never seen that before :D

Also have you ever thought of doing a feature on the box art to some Turbografx games? Some of it is horrendous, looks like it was drawn by a 10 year old!

  • I can't understand some of the horrible boxart either here and DE has some of the worst.

  • I've seen it spelled with a K before, but rarely. Don't know why. Either that or I mispronounced it and it's actually Ka-nome! He he.

  • Great review once again! I really liked Gauntlet and I did play this game seeing as it's based on it. It's pasing is way faster though! Which makes this game pretty hard, I could never finish it, but fun non the less, especially with friends.

  • It can be difficult at times if you're playing one player. You really need to experiment and find the character you can play the best at. You know?

  • Nice one Spida!
