This was ok for a TNG film I suppose but no where near as good as 2,4 or 6, I'd even place 3 as a better film as it has more epic themes (Although not quite well executed at least it has more depth) And for a cool Action Film I'd place the new Trek film above this one.
By the way I'm no TNG basher, I grew up loving the show and never got TOS until I was older and wiser and realised the brilliance of that show (I still liked 2,4 and 6 but couldn't quite get the bigger themes).
nice video. youre absolutly right. but youre not getting the famous th right. its a bit irritating from time to time. zat zing you should get right or ze whole re-review looks a bit.... i dont know how to say, but its defenitly not very good.
To be honest, I agree with confussed matthew on most of his points about this movie. My first time watching it in the theater I had many of the same reactions he did. I don't think it's by any means the worst Star Trek movie; most of the time it's pretty entertaining. My point is this, it's entertaining but that's really as far as it goes. I doubt years from now anyone will be talking about this movie the same way we talk about Star Trek II or Star Wars.
I have to disagree. I agree with some portions of both. This movie was annoying, but entertaining. The thing which annoyed me most however is that it didn't have the Enterprise D, which is of course attributed to the gheyness of the Generations writers.
Yeah, of course. It looked good when we first saw it, but then as the film progressed I realized "hey, wtf? This class is an inferior design to the Galaxy class!". Almost half the number of decks, only 500m long (warp nacelles don't count), and it in all wasn't as unique or impressive as the Galaxy class.
I think perhaps part of the reason it is smaller is because E is purely a war vessal. Whereas D was more of a long term exploring vessal, as it had all the family members of the crew on board, which in theory nearly quadruple the number of people, (If the average family size is 4, and even if it is not it is still alot of people) E doesnt mention having any civilians on it, and noone seems to mind the idea of blowing up the ship as much as they would if there were children on it.
Just because it's designed as a war vessel (which it was never stated to be, as it was a replacement for the Excelsior class) doesn't mean it should be smaller or of a lesser design. The Enterprise D had families on it, but not of ALL of the crew, more like 10%. Saying it's smaller because it's a war vessel is not sound reasoning, as look @ aircraft carriers compared to destroyers (aircraft carriers being the most powerful vessel and largest). Also, it was shown the D could output more firepower
And you dont disprove my point as the aircraft carrier and destroyer are both military vessals. The AircraftCarrier is larger than the Destroyer because it has to "carry" airplanes. My point is that D had to provide space for more then just military personel it had to provide for civilians as well. For instance the average destroyer is only 505 feet long while a normal Cruise ship is nearly 1000 feet long.
If you actually look @ and calculate the energy produced using both the SDE (sequential discharge effect) and the damage from the shot, the D has outputted more firepower and @ a faster rate. For example, in The Survivors we see the D fire @ an impressive rate discharging high level array charge shots (approx. eighty segments), and in the Best of Both Worlds doing firing moderately charged shots in rapid succession (more powerful charges and @ a faster rate displayed by the E).
Just because it CAN accommodate civilians living there (since it has 2.5x the volume of the Sovereign, not to say the Sovereign doesn't have a significant portion for social occasions as seen in Insurrection), doesn't mean it isn't a battleship. My analogy was flawed I guess, since a more appropriate example would be comparing an Alaska cruiser (Sovereign) to an Iowa class Battleship (Galaxy). We also see in DS9 that the Galaxies are upgraded with type XII arrays, increasing its lead even more.
In the "direct order" argument I would have to agree with CM. In all of your examples the Admirals were acting illogical or doing something against their directives.
Firstly I would just like to say, thank you for sticking it to CM on this review he did indeed get it dead wrong. That and the Lion King. He deserves an ass-kicking on that one too. I would disagree with you on the consensus being for VI; the consensus is for II and I agree.
Secondly, are you by any chance from Iceland? (I have an Icelandic prof in a class and you sound like him). I suppose any Nordic accent my sound like that.
The fact is 95% of what he said was sadly correct. I as a Star Trek fan, felt extremely let down by all the TNG movies; I so wanted to like them when I saw them, having grown up with the series. If I ever run into Brannon Braga, I'd have to try extremely hard not to deck the prick. He and the others involved in the TNG movies wrecked a brilliant reality.
I think First Contact is ripping from Star Trek IV way more than Star Trek Nemesis is ripping from Star Trek II.
I must add that I, unlike confusedmatthew, were not annoyed by the details he pointed out. I think this movie could be appreciated by average sci-fi fans without having to know the TNG series and I myself enjoyed this movie.
However I cannot take it seriously, the characters are indeed out of character and the story were the same as best of both worlds except for some fanboy stuff.

Ah, double dream sequence. TNG did situations like that a couple of times - not dreams per se... but yeah, not a first.
If there's a problem with Picard disobeying the orders, it's that he waits around to do it.
