  • @uszoninyc, I agree, scared then thrilled. The dramatic end is awesome.

  • Rocky IV!!!!!!!!

  • This would make a good night light.

  • dramatic scared

  • AzerStar anyone?

  • I used to turn all the lights off when this jingle came before the Pink Panther cartoons and one night my dad creeped in from behind the couch and shake it when the dramatic high notes played. I jumped off the couch scared off my butt.

  • @jbrumfie79 I'll bet he got a kick.

  • I remember seeing this on the VHS of The Plague Dogs. This logo followed by the ominous intro to that film (and the film in general) led to me being very creeped out whenever I saw this!

  • I was 2 to 12 in the 80s and this one didn't scared me, it pumped me up cuz I know Rocky was next !

  • This always scared - then thrilled me. The best UA.

  • How can I download this?

  • I'm glad I wasn't the only one scared by this in the 80s.

  • as seen on The Secret of NIMH.

  • does anybody know the actual name and composer of this theme? so I can download it

  • I always associate this with the begining of Rocky III.

  • Always got chills when this animated logo ran. It is the best ever.

And imagine after hearing this, the majestic horns of the Rocky I intro begin to play. Now that is epic.

  • this is up there with the Ladd Company logo

  • I miss this and for me, all Bond movies should still start this way! You can download the music on iTunes, too!

  • this intro used to scare me as a kid.

  • @roadragecafe holy shit me too. I'd have to cover my ears and look away before I watched Rocky. This and the intro of ghostbusters where they zoom in on the lion statue. Terrifying to a child.

  • My personal favorite UA logo - I remember when WPIX 11 ran Pink Panther cartoons in the 1980s that this ran before the program started.

  • Hmm. Could the powers that be at UA make a night light out of this logo?

  • If you're looking for the real stuff , search " The Film Music Of Joe Harnell ", author of this logo, the incredible Hulk tv show, V.

Great piano composer. Miss him a lot.

  • I`m sorry, I`m a theatre projectionist, and I always thought this was the ugliest version of the U.A. logo. My fav. was the one from the 1970`s Don`t mean to insult it, it just always turned me off every time i ran a film and had to see THIS logo on the screen.

  • @amberola1b By any chance did that 70s version have the catchy bass guitar music? If it does, do you happen to know where I might find it on YouTube? Thanks.

  • If you were aged 3-9 back in the early 80s and a movie/TV show came on with this logo, you're lying if you say you weren't scared shitless.

  • @TheEsquire212 I was!!! True story! The age of home video and I was right around that age!

  • @DanZero77 LMFAO

  • @TheEsquire212 E.T. scared the shit out of me in the early 80's. I threw that green VHS tape over to the neighbor's yard, never to be seen again. Saw ET 20 years later and it was a pretty good movie! lol

  • @dephynishun LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @TheEsquire212 Lmbo I thought I was the only kid freaked out by this in the 80's..

  • @derektheproducer if you weren't freaked out, you had to be weird.

  • @TheEsquire212 I was just about to say exactly that this was a scary logo when I was a kid.

  • @Spike20TRILLION Since when?

  • OMG, who comes up with schitt like this? If that music wasn't they most doom filled music...Especially that creepy beginning and the slowly spinning logo. I don't think I was ever in a dark room when this came on growing up, but thank goodness I wasn't. I would've crapped my pants! lol

  • This scared the crap out of me when I was a kid!!!

  • I always new when this came on TV that a pink panther cartoon would soon follow...if I survived.

  • this freakin' theme gave me the creeps as a kid, EVERY FREAKIN' TIME! I swore a horror movie was coming on, whenever it appeared.

  • thanks to Mary Pickford

  • I used to be in scared awe of this logo when I was little. I loved it. It looked like a giant metal monolith turning slowly toward you with chilling, awe inspiring music. It was deep to me as a kid. "What does it MEAN???" (lok Double Rainbow). It will always remind me of Poltergeist.

  • Yep, this seriously scared the crap out of me when I was kid!

  • I'll never forget how I use to be scared of this. lol

  • @Spike20TRILLION Yep definitely the best united artist logo. but the Village roadshow early 80's and the Greater Union tunnel cinema logo which i posted is also great. I'm sure Hoyt's had a good one, there must be heaps more. I'll put up the Seven Keys logo for all you Aussies out there

  • Yep definitely the best united artist logo. but the Village roadshow early 80's and the Greater Union tunnel cinema logo which i posted is also great. I'm sure Hoyts had a good one, there must be heaps more. I'll put up the Seven Keys logo for all you Aussies out there

  • Indeed, the best logo ever. Combined with the music, it really made you think: what's gonna happen?

  • I actually used to be terrified of this when i was a kid......

  • Can anyone remember an animated film called "The Secret of NIMH" from 1982?, It's at the beginning of that.

  • I always remember this from the rocky movies my favorite movies ever!

  • @stingfan4 Me 2 when I saw this I immediately thought of Rocky.

  • It looks classy.

  • cut away from the Bond intro at the end?

  • One of the best. But not the best. I partly agree with you there.

  • Great, the best 80's film logo. What a pitty United Artists is going down the drain thanks to Transamerica and MGM. What a great studio it was in the 70's. It's all gone...

  • Why is it cut off early!?!?!?! Jeez! No disrespect, but that ruins it when the end is cut short like that. For the full, unbutchered logo/theme, check out "United Artists Tournant" (should be listed on the right side of the this page).

  • Ugh, I used to hate this logo and the jingle way back when...was always scary. I remember this from the Pink Panther videos I used to rent, and I also found this on an old copy of Spaceballs at the video store I used to work in. It's just sooooo overdramatic. I'm not terrified of it now, in fact, it sorta pumps one up for the movie that's coming up, don't you think?

  • Should Be Played when I enter a room ;)

  • @Superberti1337 You should try it. I usually have this playing when i enter my bedroom, butt-naked with a chick in my bed.

  • There is a variation of this theme, with a larger and constructed piano tune. Can anyone upload that variation?

  • Bring back United Artists. Do It.

  • Glad to see I'm not the only one who got the chills from this as a kid.

  • reminds me pink panther x)

  • This is not older than the 80s. It debuted in 1982 on "Rocky III." MGM/UA put this logo at the beginning of older films in place of the old Transamerica logo because of a stipulation that MGM was to remove all Transamerica references from UA's films (when Transamerica sold MGM, it was still using the T-flower logo as its corporate logo).

  • Didn't David Gordon Green used this logo for his film "Undertow". I didn't see the whole film but parts of it and I remeber seeing this UA logo instead of the newer logo.

  • OH, kids...there's a special movie. Close your eyes...wait...wait...NOW! No...do NOT run in the halls!

    Kidding

  • Reminds me of Rocky III

  • First time I saw this was at the premiere of ROCKY 3 at the SAM ERIC theater in PHILADELPHIA, 1982. Still a great logo.

  • This Intro already existed in the 60s

at the James Bond 007 movies with Sean Connery. Thank you very much for Upload, 5 stars and the best greetings from Germany.

  • THIS IS OLDER THAN 80's. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • Yikes, a logo that turns & stares STRAIGHT into your soul!

  • Reminds me of the original Rocky movie on VHS. Great intro!!

  • charlie chaplin rules :D

  • its cut off at the end. it ruins everything!!

  • i remember the good ol' Bond flicks with it...

  • is it just me, or is the new one a soundbyte from the original score of Goldeneye. All I can think of is James Bond when I hear it.

  • I think I remember this from Secret of NIMH. Am I wrong?

  • @Conchobhar

"The Secret of NIMH" did use this logo, as did many other UA features from the early 1980s after MGM's purchase of the studio from Transamerica.

  • Yes. In fact, Cartoon Network's print of NIMH preserves this logo! (Although idk if the mandatory MGM lion precedes it...)

  • You can find a version with better audio and that doesn't get cut off at the end if you search for "United Artists Tourant."

This is one of my favorite movie studio logo sequences ever. The only one that is better is Tri-Star Pictures.

  • Whoa, you were right! This would be a little intense for me if I was younger!

  • I was scared by that logo when I was younger myself..I think I can handle it now.

  • I agree broddy bounce-mysterious, powerful, then pause, then a little quirky pause then crescendo.I agree on Tri-Star too and classic MGM

  • My favourite by far. Loved it.............used to play it over and over on the old VHS tapes. Thanks for the post!!

  • This was used in Thief

  • My favorite United Artists logo and theme. Hadn't heard it since the early-80's-- thanks for sharing!!

  • Wasn't there a UA logo in the 60's at the end of "Outer Limits" that had "United Artists" spelled in white between parentheses and when the moved "United Artists" was spelled in black then the parenthses came together to form "UA?"

  • this is the best united artists logo ever. only the latest universal logo tops it. thanks for the video.

  • I used to associate this thing with Bond films when I was growing up, classic stuff.

  • This is by far the best logo they ever did. They should really go back to it and stick to it. Still gives me chills!

  • This one would scare the hell out of me growing up.

  • me too!

  • Why would this logo scare you? lol

  • how loud was this logo at the cinema anyway?

  • this logo can be found on most 1982-1986? vhs tapes by cbs/fox and mgm. if it is releasesd by ua, it may show up. however, the mgm/ua 1986 logo showed up on the 1995 re-issue of octopussy.

  • this is the ua turning logo, 1982-1986, i think.

i have a odd stereo version on " you only live twice", 1984 cbs/fox video. the first half (the quiet part) has a duphonic like effect on the right and normal on the left.

as soon as it goes loud, it is in true stereo- a bit more crisp.

  • Isn't this magic? I thought "I'd like to listen to that United Artists theme like in the eighties". I went Youtube on the off chance and would you believe it!!

  • prefered 50s one. Opening of Doctor No. 007

  • This always gave me the chills (in a good way) - and still does. Amazingly powerful theme, and simple, yet aesthetically pleasing graphics. Possibly the best logo intro ever.

  • @mufkatar Yup, yup, totally! I loved seeing/hearing it, too

  • I love it. Dark and sad sounding, then extremely majestic. This is pure awesome. And OmicronXI, the only DVD i've seen this logo on is the '07 release of "The Secret of NIMH". But it's on quite a few CBS-FOX James Bond tapes, "From Russia With Love" for example.

  • Does this logo appear on any DVD releases? Or is it only available on original '70s and '80s tapes?

  • it appeared on the rocky 3 dvd

  • absolutely destroys other film logos. terrifying.

  • shit,

my absolute fav of all film company logos.

all the old james bond movies came from UA, but now when Ive bought all the Bonds on DVDs they have replaced it fuck!

  • a rarely beautiful logo theme

  • I once went through a pile of old videos trying to find this one. The best opening logo ever AFAIC, pity they changed it.

  • That sound always scares me.

  • I dont know why. But this United Artist intro theme always game chills as a kid.

  • Yeah...and you didn't have to post it on EVERY YouTube that has the jingle on it.

  • Beautiful, this appeared before the Bond-movies etc, miss it.

  • Yeah, I think it's only on CBS FOX Bond tapes. But I saw it on my '07 DVD of The Secret of NIMH.

  • this logo used to scare the crap outta me!

  • I love the way the music starts low ,and then grows so loud.I used to turn the volume down, and then crank it;drove my parents nuts.

  • It came back only once in 2004 for the movie Undertow

  • An excellent logo. From the studio which over so many years brought us so many classic movies.

  • I have this logo on an original copy of The Secret of Nimh from 1982. Sadly, this logo is plastered over with the 1994 logo, though; because I have Rocky 3 and the 1982 UA logo's after the prototype CBS/FOX Video logo!

  • The film 'Heavens Gate' bankrupted this company in the 1980's. MGM bought them out for peanuts.

  • I also have this on Rocky 3 Vhs.I love this logo.United Artist roxx!

  • I remember seeing this logo at the beginning of a pre-48 Warner Brothers cartoon along with the AAP logo came after that. I don't remember the WB cartoon where they usually had the UA open. I have the movie "West Side Story" on VHS that has the same logo shown on this clip.

  • I'm amazed at how these things used to scare us back then. It's gotta be fun being a parent and watch your kids get scared at such things. I agree with Takeshi357

  • Slow start,dramatic ending!

  • Yeah, I think the music is kinda freaky. Only added to the surreality when they aired the old Pink Panther cartoons with this intro!

  • I vaguely remember it with the Pink Panther cartoons, but I personally think it's even worse when seen on the original video release of "The Plague Dogs". There's something extremely unsettling about hearing this creepy music, and then seeing the opening credits for that film start... (And if you want to see what I mean, I think the logo and credits from that film are around Youtube somewhere. :) )

  • Whoa---"The Plague Dogs" was released on video? I didn't know that! I've been wanting to see it for years, ever since I rented "Watership Down", directed by the same guy, adapted from a novel by the same author. Is "Plague Dogs" as good as I've heard it is?

(whether it is or not, you're right, with a movie like that, this super-scary logo is a perfect fit for it. Kind of like how the 1979 "Paramount Home Video" logo was a perfect fit for "Friday the 13th")

  • Yes, it's an amazing film to see. :) Incredibly sad (much worse than Watership Down), but well worth watching if you can get hold of it. Apart from the Australian DVD release, most DVD releases are of the heavily cut version, and none feature this logo except for the original video release. It occasionally pops up on Ebay, so it might be worth looking there for it. :)

  • This logo is so disturbing. The beginning is just plain creepy but the triumphant music at the end just seals the deal.

  • Well, from what I heard, the ending music may be a scare factor. But nonetheless, a good logo (though the one with the "light slashing the A", which came next, is better).

  • I have A Vhs copy of Rocky 3 from 82',and this logo was used at the opening.Sure is A lot better, than that suck MGM/UA communications logo from the mid 80's.The orchestration rules, soft piano blending into thunderous orchestration;gotta love it.

  • This was the first thing I ever heard on an home theater system. Almost blew me out of the seat. They should bring it back.

  • This came out in 1982, but it looks like it came out around 1970.

  • This is a classic. I would hate for YouTube not to have any more logos like this. I wonder what would happen if Sony fussed and fumed the way Viacom did.

  • I remember this from those old james bond movies....love the music

  • Not to mention Rocky 1-3 and The Pink Panther movies.

  • This was cool. I remember this from the early to mid 80's. Then they changed it into that MGM/UA logo with that stupid synthesizer music, although the MGM/UA logo and the blue steel UA logo looked pretty cool.

  • Now this was scary to me when I was little--especially the music!
