Just picked up a brand new gen 4 23 yesterday and I'm anxious to see how well it shoots with the new spring assembly. I hope that most of the gen 4 teething issues have been with the 9mm 17 &19. I'm a huge fan, Hickok, and watch your videos nearly every day. Thanks for doing these reviews.
You're having much better luck than me w/ Winchester white box and the gen 4 Glock 19. About 30%-50% of the cartridges eject directly backwards. Yesterday, I left the range with gun powder marks on my forehead and nose. My gun is from 12/30/2011. I called Glock, and they said I had all of the changes. Their only suggestion was that I change ammo. I can't lie - I'm disappointed. I wish I'd gone w/ a gen 3. Out of about 400 rounds, I've had 2-3 failures to feed.
just bought my 19 gen 4 last night. First shots will be tomorrow. The store gave me a box of Federal for target shooting. I bought a box of Hornady Critical Defense.
@livefreeordie1985 yeah I agree with you on that one. I've heard the gen 4s have spring issues.unfortunately I live in communist massachusetts and glocks are on the "ban" list.. So the only ones you can buy are used pre ban. The gen 3s were only made a short time before the ban so they are hard to find and you pay a premium for them(up to $850!)but I lucked out and got a gen3 g23 Leo trade in for $595.when I found it I did a few back flips lol! GREAT gun!!
@mrthereree yeah I hear that I originally wanted a g22... But watching hickocks videos inspired me to go try a rental g23... Liked it so much I went out and bought one. With the right holster the compacts are a peach to carry. The 17&the19 are still really nice pistols though. But I'd say if you get the chance to trade the 17 for a 19 go for it!
I have a G17 an I have issues with white box too. 1/4 of my shots either had slide bite or would double feed. I was shooting Aguilla cheapo mexican crap and it cycled fine. Glocks are particular I guess.
just got myself a Glock 23, bought 500 rounds of federal, and 500 rounds of UMC...only 1 malfuncion with the federal, reloaded that one round after i finished the mag..and it worked fine :)
hey hickok, do the glock gen 3 have a beveled magazine well like the gen 4? my glock 17 gen 4 is the first glock iv ever owned or really even taken the time to go over
On a scale of 1-5, 1 being not noticeable at all and 5 being night and day difference, how would you rate the recoil reduction of the new Gen 4 G119 after this spring has been nicely broken into? Thanks :)
I think the problem with the 19 gen 4, was that they were shipped with the 40 cal recoil springs. the spring was set up for the 40 cal. ammo and not the lower power 9mm target ammo.
Great videos Hickok! They were a contributing factor in my decision to purchase a Gen4 G19 and I love it! For all the Gen4 owners out there, have the latest updates fixed your problems? I have the 0-4-3 spring and the 30274 ejector and have had ZERO failures of any kind even after 500 rounds of Remington UMC and WWB.
There's nothing good about the Gen 4. The way it ejects shells suck. The spring breaks after a couple hundred rounds and the grips are to rough,it will rub your skin raw if you conceal carry. Its in the same class as a Hi Point if you ask me. I would'nt trust it with my life.
@sigmaoverglocks So says the authority on firearms. Guess the rest of the world better throw away all those millions of worthless pieces of junk. Really?? Glocks and all the clones exist because they work...don't bother with the keyboard, you've already demonstrated your ability to make an unintelligent comment.
i have a glock 19 gen 2 and i have shot just about 6000 rounds with the cheap shit of federal 115 gr and even cheaper the tullammo wich is only like 10 bucks at wall mart for 50 rd box and my gun has worcked awsome no problems at all
Hickok, is it just me, or don't you think a springfield xd in 10mm would be the coolest thing in a while? I'm a glock guy myself but have recently been shown the awesomeness of the xd.
hey hickok45, i just bought me a glock 19 gen 4 i have the 043 spring but i am catching shells in the face and on top of my head do you know of any way to fix this?
Most of the people I know that shoot tulammo got problem
Most of the time I shoot tulammo because is cheap $9.50 for 50 rounds I shoot allready more than 1500 round of this cheap ammo and I never got any missfire or jam no even a tiny problem and my friend just talk bad thing about tulammo they use federal champion now they say no problem most of my friend use glock
hey hickok im a HUGE glock fan, i have a glock 22 and a glock 19, you just cant say enought about'em. BUT however i recently bought a ruger p95 and it has shown more dependable and (with my aim) more accurate than my G19. it also seems to have reduced recoil and its diverted more into the body instead of the muzzle flipping up. i have yet to put this gun through my own little torture test and if it survies it will replace my G19 as a primary sidearm
Hey hickok. I love your videos and tgey are very imformative. I watched one of them and u were driving through nashville. U also have mentioned u live in tennessee in a couple i think. I used to live about 30 minutes north of nasville. I was just wondering what shop you buy your guns and if you live anywhere near there. Thanks
I was just tempted by a gun catalog to buy a S&W 5906 9MM the gun my old police Department went to when I left. Wow the specs say it weight is like 38 ounces, even My old S&W 19 was like 34 ounces. I hate heavy guns. compare that to a Glock 26 at 19.75 ounces, and the GL 19 21? No way will I consider a heavy gun period. So I saved my self about $350.00. Again I hate weight. My S&W Body guard 380 is 16 ounces loaded. My Glock 26, 26 ounces loaded.
I don't know if I am blessed or some damned,I have eight hand guns and somewhere on you tube someone has bad mouthed them all. I have not had a single problem with any one of them. Started with the Gen 4 19. What a joke I have maybe a 1000 rounds with no problem. Remember Bill whats his name bad mouthing the Gen 4? All my ammo is Walmart cheap in calibers from 22 ,380,9mm 38, 40. Take the complaints with a grain of salt. And do Join NRA, and watch,Hickok and tnoutdoor9, and quality posters
i love UMC for target shooting with my browning 9mm high power, i have never had issues with it personally
one brand i cannot stand however is PMC, i have it stovepipe almost every shot
either way, when its not at the range it is loaded with 13 rounds of hydrashok hollowpoints with a backup mag of those beautiful corbon powerball rounds :)
i put 1200 rounds in my SR9 had one bad ammo from the white box. the person that was trying out my pistol at the range didn't notice the ammo was deformed.
What is YOUR opinion on the Hornady Critical Defense ammo? I carry the 185grain FTX/JHP ammo in my Metro Arms M1911. I feel that its a pretty good round and wanted to see what YOU thought about the Hornady 9mm AND the 45ACP ammo for self defense. Thank You!
is tulammo weaker than these??? this is the only ammo i have shot through my glock22 sense i got it 3 weeks ago i put 200 rounds through it no problems at all and its the cheapest stuff at walmart 12$ for box of 50
@CFH4E If that 40 S&W that is cheap. Is that the aluminum or steel cases? most 40 is about $16 at Walmart?
all in all if it works, use it, no need to spend $1.25 per bullet for Speer or personal defense ammo to make holes in paper targets. I shoot mostly Federal $12 for 9 mm, and $16 for 40 and $18 for 380. Win white box is about $4 more per 50 box. I starting to shoot fewer rounds per range visit for all the higher per shot stuff, and 40 or 50 rounds per 22, or 9mm. Like 10 per 38, or 380.
Thanks again for the great series of tests. To me it seems clear that everything is a compromise with firearms as well as life. If you want a pistol to function well and have low felt recoil with hot heavy bullets (which I do) and have a spring which will last virtually forever, then it may not shoot cheap light ammo as well. (at least at first) And it may require a break in. You cannot have everything in life. It's just the physics of science and nature.
After 500 rounds my Glock 19 gen 4 would stove pipe on a regular basis. I called Glock they told me the Winchester 115 grain was the problem, and that the #3 spring is designed for "service ammo". Glock sent me a #4 spring (softer spring) and the gun cycles flawlessly all the time now even if I test it by limp wristing on every shot.
@40RLH That is the answer in a nut shell. Glock to accommodate Plus P so called combat ammo for Law enforcement recoil complaints, increased the recoil spring strength. And insisted the Glocks were Combat Pistols not Target pistols. Ignoring that 99% of Glock shooting is Target practice. Certainly one could target practice with $1.25 each bullets, but I don't think so. The lighter springs # 04 accommodate the real world.
Not the so called Combat world. As a Law Officer I never shot anyone.
Hickok 45 Probably far and away one of the most way watched You tube personalities. That a important fact for learning, and analyzing firearm criteria. Something can be learned each time. Guns, my vote for Glock, for concealment, the 26, Holster, pocket, or IWB. all around gun GL 19. Holsters leather, just purchased my first plastic one. Sights? for personal protection? Laser Sights, nothing like them. To avoid holster problems? Laser grips. Ammo 9mm effective, low recoil, available, cheap.
@Pill88Dickle I think that's all rumor you have to ask Glock? I believe that Glock, tried to mitigate recoil from hi pressure plus p and p plus p ammo loads. to reduce mussel jump and recoil. With heavy double springs?
It was a nice gesture but tarnished their reputation,It seems now they have # 0-4-1 springs, They had stiff #03 originally, and went to lighter #04 springs. They all work. Some better than others. 115 Walmart ammo works just fine. Stick with the lighter springs. #04, or 041.
recently in one of my CCW classes, I had students with gen3 and gen4 glocks and they were shooting reloads that were sold at the local gun shop. It was a very interesting experience.
115 gr bullets with 5.2 grains Unique functioned ok in the gen3 but stovepiped repeatedly in the gen4. The spent cases were just barely tumbling out the ejection port. It really showed the difference in spring strength between gen 3 and 4.
Bumping up to 5.6 grains Unique works fine in both gens.
@upgrade2linux This answers all the Gen 4 questions and puts to rest? Limp wresting, and all the other experts advise. The original # 03 springs were designed for P+P loads and was to reduce recoil. The poor Glock decision was not logical. because all shooters are not in a war, or as they say COMBAT. Real world shooters fire thousands of rounds at targets and in practice. Of Cheaper Walmart ammo, not Gold Plated dollar bullet, so called COMBAT ammo. Glock finally wised up? with a weaker spring
Hehe, Al-Qaeda, you mean the CIA? Al-Qaeda in arabic means "The Database" which is a list of muslim CIA trained operatives. I'm really looking forward to getting one of those 4th Gen Glock 19's. Looks awesome.
Had to find out for myself, so off I went to pick up a new G19 Gen4+loads of 115 g ammo from Wal Mart and Academy. No malfunctions whatsoever. Great gun, and I'm liking the 9mm ammo prices. Thanks for the informative video.
I respect your opinion on everything involving guns. I don't purchase a gun until I check for your view of the gun I have in mind. I haven't found a hickok45 video showing the 33 round glock exteded clip so my question is would you suggest owning one ?
@Stylensky Every body has opinion, be aware some one on You Tube has posted a very limp wrist video, Guess what it proved nothing. Also some have removed the glock dimple, or polished it, nothing.
Law suits from Female FBI and Police woman that, the 10 MM and 40 SW and large frame, were causing females to loss their job, by not qualifying as required. The Reason for Gen 4, reduce recoil, Plus power Combat ammo, and reduce frame size. Target ammo did not work well,The 04 spring Helps Weak Ammo
If you actually own a Glock 19 gen 4, and not just into knocking it? For actual owners,
With the #03 spring, Lock the Slide back 5 nights, and rack the slide 100 times,Shoot it 20 times. Phone Glock, and get #04 spring, or a # 041 spring. shoot it 20 times.Forget Limp wrist, and dimples, and ignore the You Tube Knocking Gen 4,
If you actually own a Gen 4? you want to be satisfied, and Glock wants to satisfy you too. Ignore anti 9MM comments. Ignore only 1911 45 will do. Glock Gen4 9 mm Rocks.
@Stylensky I think limp wristing is simply a macho,I know how to shoot better than someone, Kind of a possible woman put down. And The Dimple and 115 ammo, etc.
Yes the to heavy # 03 spring caused some problems, Glocks faulted attempt to reduce mussel jump and recoil.
Now My Glock 19 Gen 4 is into 7 months, and 700 rounds,With its dimple,Walmart 115 ammo, shooting the # 03 spring, and the # 04 spring, And the tightest groups of all my Glocks. Watch this Video over 1000 rounds Come on. Gen 4 OK.
Glock 19 Gen 4, with number 04 spring, Just shot another 100 rounds of Winchester White box 115, Walmart ammo.
Not a burp, hiccup.or belly ache in the bunch.Have 10 magazines, 7 of which are cheap made in China, bullets rattle a little in some, but a problem at all. I have to go to a indoor range $15.00 a pop, don't have Hickok luxury of woods here.
I can not understand, many posts knocking Gen 4 Glocks, about trivial B/S.They do what they are suppose to do, SHOOT 115. Glocks rock. Hickok Rocks.
Just a heads up about Remington, has me asking questions? At the Range, a Remington ammo recall on 45 acp notice, dangerous? My NRA magazine, another Remington ammo recall 22 hornet, dangerous your gun may blow up? Another Remington firearm recall? This kind of makes me thing? Maybe Remington not such a wise choice? also a CNBC story about Remington Model 70 rifles, going off on safety for 60 years, with no recall? Makes me rethink, avoid Remington.I have 200 rounds on hand now, poor choice.
@xmanhockey7 , I think they are putting the 04 in them now; however, I hear from a lot of people with the stronger 03 spring that is giving them no problems. I like the 04 spring myself.
@hickok45 I enjoy your videos. A dealer wants to sell me a glock 17 gen 4 used for 475 with tax. Is that a good deal? It only comes with one magazine. I know the knew ones come with three with other parts. Should I request more clips? What problems should I look out for pertaining to the parts of the glock 17 gen 4? This information will help alot in my decision. Im the student and your that master.. lol. I am trying to learn from people with experience. Nice videos again!!!
@runhorun that's a good price for a Gen4 G17. I would say do it. I paid $570 out the door for my G19 Gen4, but it was brand new with 3 mags, loader, cleaner, 2 backstraps and the box. You may ask him to toss in another mag, but IMO that's a good deal. Good luck.
@hickok45 I am reading that Glock now has a # 0-4-1 spring? All the Conjecture about dimples, limp wrist and God knows what? Not ejecting far enough? stove pipe etc? I have shot my 19 gen 4, with its original #03 spring, and it worked fine racking was stiffer. Glock sent a # 04 spring and it works great, racks lighter also. I have probably 500 rounds through it thus far, With Dimples intact. If #0-4-1 does better I love to hear about that? My Complaint? Crimson Trace Has no Laser Grips 4 Gen 4
@hickok45 Glocks Rock, I see a lot of activity of late without Glock? Being fair, I understand. On my Gl 19 Gen 4 # 04 spring, after 5 months with Walmart Ammo no problem. I discovered Laser Grips. They rock too.
not available for Glock gen 4. Got one for my Gl 26 gen 3. And Purchased a Gl 23 gen 3 and a CT LG 619 for it. I put Laser Max Micro rail laser on the gen 4 19.Also purchased a S&W Bodyguard 380 laser equipped
for pocket carry, its light and small. Glocks N Lasers Rock. Its all Good.
I want this gun so badly! So much misinformation's floating around out in cyberspace about this generation. So? Glock sent it out with a stiffer spring for recoil that needed more break-in time. Wow. Big Deal. I am newbie--never shot a thing, aside from a .22, .357 magnum, and a black-power rifle–-BACK WHEN I WAS TEN WITH MY DAD! Ha. So, I'm looking to get a new Glock 19, Gen 4. Anything you suggest? I've watched all of your Glock 19, Gen 4 vids...keep up the great work!
More break in time was NOT the only issue with certain models of the Gen 4's. Now, I'll concede the issue was somewhat overblown, as not everyone was having issues with there guns. However some were, and I've seen this first hand on several examples. This is why everyone should be required to take a class in statistics. Just because you have an example that works, doesn't mean everyone else's will. Just because your example doesn't work, doesn't mean someone else's won't either.
No problem,115 gram Wal-mart does just fine, be it Federal,or win white box. Can't be real, guns are made to fire the caliber be it 9mm or 45.Anything to the contrary is a excuse. My 19 shoots, all with either a 4 spring or a 3 spring. No need to fire 4 thousand rounds to break it in,its not a pair of shoes. So many negative gen 4 stories, sound like they rewritten by a competitor. Glock is a gun,not a target gun,or a combat gun,its a gun, guns shoot bullets, from Walmart.
@hickok45 hi, before I shot my 19, I read all complainants posted, and heard Glock reps saying it was designed as a combat pistol. Not designed for target 115 ammo. Some posters complaining about ejection, extraction, and god knows what? I don;t agree with Glock, combat, nor all the negative posts.
I shot mine with only 115, and both the 3 and 4 spring. No problems with either. The only thing that happened was the last round didn;t feed, I tap the mag and it fed.My guess the mag spring, with 1.rnd
@hickok45 All my comments are like tongue in cheek. So many comments like break it in with a thousand rounds, or limp wristing, or trigger bumps, or god knows what. Being old school breaking in was like a pair of shoes. And maybe limp was how one held a base ball bat? I guess with revolvers, no need to manipulate a slide to reload, so ammo strength not a big issue. All old Police departments were anti Automatic pistols. Today is a new day. I purchased a Beretta PX4 Sub 9mm chambered not cocked
@surfside006 Yeah I am not quite sure I get your point, but Glock actually is all of the above, target gun and a combat gun so I'm not sure I get your point.
theres a video here on youtube comparing 3rd gen and 4th gen 9mm glocks. in a high speed video you can see that the ejection for the 4th gen is much weaker and therefore is much more susceptible to stove pipes/jams. in the 3rd gen the bullet ejects high and clear out of the way.
Correction on ammo tester its (tnoutdoors9)get a real education and dispell myths,
check out this guys site. So you have (hickok45) mostly on Guns. And a lot of work by
tn9 ammo, Don;t worry about barrel length or gun models. Get real even the FBI messed up trying to make 10mm a law endorsement caliber.9mm Glock 26 will do whats needed in Civilian self defensive.Whether its wet paper or Gel, this guy will show you the way. Hickok and Tenn for real information.
@rooftop0rocketz- I strongly agree. I myself owns a Gen 3 G19 and have never had an issue. I feed it expensive and cheap walmart ammo...result= ran flawless
Having never fired a Gen. 4, I really don't know. But I own a Glock 21 sf Gen.3 and have never ever had a problem with it...not even once. My guess is that the new Glocks just need some time to "break in" and probably will still be just as reliable as all the others before them. Time will tell.
My Glock gen 4 has been very unreliable. Giving up on it and trying a Ruger or S&W. My best friend is a Glock rep who told me Glock has been aware of several issues with their guns over the years but he could not get them to give a damn until it became an issue with the public, then they would act like they had just discovered it. These are products that people are depending on for their lives. He doesn't trust them, he should know, so i don't either. I am done with them.
The Problem is that Glock was using the same spring on the 40 Cal Models. 17,22 and 19,23 having the same guide rod assembly. These stiff guide rod assembly springs are made for the 40 Cal. I personally like the Gen 3 and the RTF anyway so I am not concerned.
How many rounds before you "shoot out" a barrel? I have a model 29 with 8 and 3/8 barrel you said you have shot maybe 75000 rounds through it. Ever change a barrel? Ever had a glock with aluminum or stainless frame? why would anyone want one?
No problems at all with 500 rounds of UMC in my G22 Gen4. I know, it's a .40, but this vid has prompted me to get the Lone Wolf 9mm kit and see what happens. I also keep hearing about issues with the G17 or 19, but I definitely love my G22!
I think the Gen4 Glocks have gotten a bad reputation because of lower powered range ammo. However, you could view the occasional range malfunction as an opportunity to practice a sponataneous malfunction drill. As long as it functions 100% with full power ammo I am happy. Realisticly you're not going to carry range ammo for defense any way.
I have gone through 2500 rounds with my gen4 glock 17. I have had 0 malfunctions of any kind. My glock did come with the 0-2-1 spring all ready in it from the factory. I have only shot 115 grain cheap ammo, umc for the first 500 followed by magtec, s&b,wolf, wwb
how do you feel about steel ammo? I know everyone says it's horrible but what's the big deal if you're just looking for cheap ammo to use at a range (that allows it)? Can it harm a glock?
hats off to Hickok45... Always remember when it comes to illegal use of firearms, it is the insane idiots NOT the weapons. If the currnently fired up liberals disarm the "legal" gun users, well... expect Al-Qaida running wild across this proud land of ours. Yeah, I can see a turban on Jared's ugly head

You may have forgotten to mention one more use for your guns. Looks like you could plant a garden behind the sat dish. Maybe a glockbilt or possibly an AR fiftiller
I have a Gen 4 22 and have had 0 malfunctions with .40 caliber. Then I put a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel in, and guess what? Still 0 malfunctions.
Etucker...you cannot compare a sports care to the Constitution of the United States..the 2nd amendment was designed for the people to be able to protect themselves from not only other citizens [bad guys] but the government if its gone out of control. not to mention handguns such as glocks come standard with 15-17 and 20 round magazine..10 round mags are sub standard with 15+ being standard.. 33 round mags are just fun ;]
but to draw a line from that to a sports care ??? come now
At the range I have fired more than a thousand rounds of the UMC ammo through my Sig 229 40sw and never had a malfunction of any kind. I have fired at least 300 rds of Win white box through the same gun and never had a malfunction of any kind.
All I have to say about the ejection pattern of the federal vs the gold dots is WOW...it's night and day. That gold dot brass is being slung out hotter than krispy kreams on a Sunday morning where as the federal dribbles out of the gun, practically falling out. I own a Glock 19 Gen 4 and it has had 5 hangups in 1000 rounds all subject to weak ammo. When I carry my Hornady hydro shocks, I have complete confidence that my gun will function when necessary every time.

On a scale of 1-5, 1 being not noticeable at all and 5 being night and day difference, how would you rate the recoil reduction of the new Gen 4 G119 after this spring has been nicely broken into? Thanks :)
sumitino 2 months ago
I think the problem with the 19 gen 4, was that they were shipped with the 40 cal recoil springs. the spring was set up for the 40 cal. ammo and not the lower power 9mm target ammo.

Great videos Hickok! They were a contributing factor in my decision to purchase a Gen4 G19 and I love it! For all the Gen4 owners out there, have the latest updates fixed your problems? I have the 0-4-3 spring and the 30274 ejector and have had ZERO failures of any kind even after 500 rounds of Remington UMC and WWB.
waldenry 3 months ago
There's nothing good about the Gen 4. The way it ejects shells suck. The spring breaks after a couple hundred rounds and the grips are to rough,it will rub your skin raw if you conceal carry. Its in the same class as a Hi Point if you ask me. I would'nt trust it with my life.

@sigmaoverglocks the shells didnt hit you in the face did they? i just got one and 85 out of 100 casings nailed me in the face after ejection.

Thank god for light hand guns. heavy is past.

is tulammo weaker than these??? this is the only ammo i have shot through my glock22 sense i got it 3 weeks ago i put 200 rounds through it no problems at all and its the cheapest stuff at walmart 12$ for box of 50
CFH4E 7 months ago
@CFH4E If that 40 S&W that is cheap. Is that the aluminum or steel cases? most 40 is about $16 at Walmart?
all in all if it works, use it, no need to spend $1.25 per bullet for Speer or personal defense ammo to make holes in paper targets. I shoot mostly Federal $12 for 9 mm, and $16 for 40 and $18 for 380. Win white box is about $4 more per 50 box. I starting to shoot fewer rounds per range visit for all the higher per shot stuff, and 40 or 50 rounds per 22, or 9mm. Like 10 per 38, or 380.

tk4227 8 months ago
Thanks again for the great series of tests. To me it seems clear that everything is a compromise with firearms as well as life. If you want a pistol to function well and have low felt recoil with hot heavy bullets (which I do) and have a spring which will last virtually forever, then it may not shoot cheap light ammo as well. (at least at first) And it may require a break in. You cannot have everything in life. It's just the physics of science and nature.

mhdd1234 8 months ago
After 500 rounds my Glock 19 gen 4 would stove pipe on a regular basis. I called Glock they told me the Winchester 115 grain was the problem, and that the #3 spring is designed for "service ammo". Glock sent me a #4 spring (softer spring) and the gun cycles flawlessly all the time now even if I test it by limp wristing on every shot.
40RLH 9 months ago

Ammo 9mm effective, low recoil, available, cheap.
surfside006 9 months ago
@Pill88Dickle I think that's all rumor you have to ask Glock? I believe that Glock, tried to mitigate recoil from hi pressure plus p and p plus p ammo loads. to reduce mussel jump and recoil. With heavy double springs?
It was a nice gesture but tarnished their reputation,It seems now they have # 0-4-1 springs, They had stiff #03 originally, and went to lighter #04 springs. They all work. Some better than others. 115 Walmart ammo works just fine. Stick with the lighter springs. #04, or 041.
surfside006 9 months ago
Hey Hickok,
recently in one of my CCW classes, I had students with gen3 and gen4 glocks and they were shooting reloads that were sold at the local gun shop. It was a very interesting experience.
115 gr bullets with 5.2 grains Unique functioned ok in the gen3 but stovepiped repeatedly in the gen4. The spent cases were just barely tumbling out the ejection port. It really showed the difference in spring strength between gen 3 and 4.
Bumping up to 5.6 grains Unique works fine in both gens.
upgrade2linux 9 months ago
@upgrade2linux This answers all the Gen 4 questions and puts to rest? Limp wresting, and all the other experts advise. The original # 03 springs were designed for P+P loads and was to reduce recoil. The poor Glock decision was not logical. because all shooters are not in a war, or as they say COMBAT. Real world shooters fire thousands of rounds at targets and in practice. Of Cheaper Walmart ammo, not Gold Plated dollar bullet, so called COMBAT ammo. Glock finally wised up? with a weaker spring

I've watched all of your Glock 19, Gen 4 vids...keep up the great work!
shrumpkin 11 months ago
@shrumpkin

The only thing that happened was the last round didn;t feed, I tap the mag and it fed.My guess the mag spring, with 1.rnd
surfside006 11 months ago
@hickok45
Have you read the Remington dangerous ammo recalls in the last two weeks? 45 ACP dangerous?
22 hornet dangerous? a firearm defective/ another firearm defective for 60 years?
I don not ever recall ammo being incorrectly loaded with, over powder? and under powder ever?
am I missing something? I thing the ammo comes from Remington ammo Arkansas?
Big difference talking about poor ejection, weak ammo, and a gun blowing up? I read 3 recalls in two weeks?
surfside006 11 months ago
@hickok45 All my comments are like tongue in cheek. So many comments like break it in with a thousand rounds, or limp wristing, or trigger bumps, or god knows what. Being old school breaking in was like a pair of shoes. And maybe limp was how one held a base ball bat? I guess with revolvers, no need to manipulate a slide to reload, so ammo strength not a big issue. All old Police departments were anti Automatic pistols. Today is a new day. I purchased a Beretta PX4 Sub 9mm chambered not cocked

theres a video here on youtube comparing 3rd gen and 4th gen 9mm glocks. in a high speed video you can see that the ejection for the 4th gen is much weaker and therefore is much more susceptible to stove pipes/jams. in the 3rd gen the bullet ejects high and clear out of the way.

Having never fired a Gen. 4, I really don't know. But I own a Glock 21 sf Gen.3 and have never ever had a problem with it...not even once. My guess is that the new Glocks just need some time to "break in" and probably will still be just as reliable as all the others before them. Time will tell.
handy777 1 year ago
My Glock gen 4 has been very unreliable. Giving up on it and trying a Ruger or S&W. My best friend is a Glock rep who told me Glock has been aware of several issues with their guns over the years but he could not get them to give a damn until it became an issue with the public, then they would act like they had just discovered it. These are products that people are depending on for their lives. He doesn't trust them, he should know, so i don't either. I am done with them.

@billwright331
The Problem is that Glock was using the same spring on the 40 Cal Models. 17,22 and 19,23 having the same guide rod assembly. These stiff guide rod assembly springs are made for the 40 Cal. I personally like the Gen 3 and the RTF anyway so I am not concerned.

33 round mags are just fun ;]
but to draw a line from that to a sports care ??? come now

What 9mm ammo would you use for the Glock seventeen if can and I know it's asking a lot but could you make a video on it

At the range I have fired more than a thousand rounds of the UMC ammo through my Sig 229 40sw and never had a malfunction of any kind. I have fired at least 300 rds of Win white box through the same gun and never had a malfunction of any kind.
Love your vids Hickock; keep it up.
