  • Need the actual driver my videos good for that

  • google this : Vista_Win7_R237, works 100%

  • I don't have stereo mix on my laptop.

  • Don;t think stereo mix works on a laptop.

  • I dont have steriomix D:

  • how about sterio mix on window 7 premium how to enable pls teach me tnx

  • @TheDRLAPTOP

I made a video for Windows 7, and as far as I know the settings are on the same no matter what flavour of Windows 7 you have.

  • I cant find stereo-mix or what U hear

  • I have Windows Vista Home Premium

I right clicked on the speaker logo in the bottom right of my screen

I then clicked on 'Recording' on the toolbar

I see 'Microphone' and 'Line In'

I right clicked in the box and ensured 'Show disabled devices' was ticked. It still only showed 'Microphone' and 'Line In'.

Are my drivers/sound cards fucked? I have no idea

  • @J4K31

Sounds like you have a card that doesn't have the mix option.

It does happen and I very much doubt drivers will fix it...depends on card?

  • @Split10 How do I find out what card my computer has?

  • @J4K31

what computer is it would prolly be a good place to start.

  • @Split10 I was wondering if I was able to find out via control panel

    I have a Dell XPS 420

  • @J4K31

I got this from the Dell forum.

His XPS 420 has a SB X-FI Xtreme Gamer and I know for sure that card does NOT have the mix function.

Someone else in the same thread has an XPS 420 with onboard sound, and he doesn't have mix either :(

I will PM you the link as someone in that thread has a sort of way over it, but I think thats more for recording purposes.

The other way over it....get an X-FI XtremeMusic....(SB0460) from ebay.

  • @Split10

It seems I can't PM you cos you have friend lock on....so add me if you want the info.

  • @Split10 I have a Sony Laptop with Windows Vista and when I right clicked and marked at the disconnected and disabled devices I didn't find the stereo mix , what's the problem?

  • @Vampire285

It just sounds like you laptops soundchip doesn't support stereo mix.

Many don't....In fact it's rare to find a Vista laptop that supports what's shown in my video.

  • @Split10 So there is no hope? what should I do? help me please

  • @Split10 Okay thanks, when I was buying this computer Dell said it was the best for multimedia/gaming purposes I expected it to have everything :L

  • This video did not show what you titled the video. Fuck you.

  • I need English subtitles. :P

  • SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES AND ENABLE!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!! THANKYOU SO MUCH! It was driving me CRAZYYYYYY I just couldn't figure it out! You sir are a god send!

  • i enable it and it volume is so low how i make it higher

  • Thumbs up if you don't have Stereo Mix!

  • You mentioned that you had to revert back to some old drives for the hidden cards to apear; What were those old drives?

I've tried showing the hidden cards, but the ones shown on this video don't show up on my computer, so will reverting to these old drives help?

  • Thanks! My card shows up as stereo mix!

  • my sound broke too so this video looks nice just cant hear anything

  • i go to recording devices and all i have is micraphone and line in, can i not do stereo mix ?

  • doesn't work for me..

  • is see stereo mix but it doesnt do any thing

  • cool story bro

  • There's a new software that makes stereo mix recording possible for ALL soundcards! Just google for 'DDMF virtual audio stream'... check the demo, it's great!

  • hello, for what is stereo mix?

  • Where do i find a a pro to put stereo mix on my vista laptop and how much dos it cost

  • I did this but how do i get the option of stereo mix on audacity??

  • @haroon4996

If you launch audacity after you set your sound card to mix, it should record.

Thing's changed in Audacity with Vista.....go read their site.

  • this video is more or less useless! it doesn't show anything but a guy tabbing through different options. The only useful thing i could find in this video might be the possibility how to enable StereoMix for people that don't know how to. Would have been great if this had been done in the video, so that people can actually see, how to enable their stereomix...

  • @PK004SterR

I'm afraid if you card doesn't have the mix option when you show hidden devices..there is nothing I can do to help :(

  • @PK004SterR

I'm having pretty much the same problem as you, i had "What u Hear device" but i somehow disconnected it and my computer cannot find it anymore. wtf

  • Your the very first video out of the twenty I watched that acknowledges that some people can't do both stereo-mix and microphone...

I've been trying forever to get them both working, downloaded tons of software and watched tons of videos and crap, but nothing really works...

  • @Xelights

That does seem to be the case I'm afraid :(

Did you ever look at something called VAC (Virtual Audio Cable)...

It's very messy IMO....but may be worth a look.

There is a video on youtube about it.

  • @Xelights ........I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU....ANY HELP IF YOU GET YOURS TO WORKIN ..... IF YOU COULD POST THE SOLUTION ...OR EVEN EMAIL ME WITH IT ...ANY HELP WOULD BE SO GREATLY APRECIATIVE IF YOU FIND A SOLUTION.....LOL...ITS DRIVING ME NUTS ..LOL.....I ALSO HAVE DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE ..AND WATCHED EVER VIDEO I CAN FIND....AND NOTHING WORKS.

    *HYLANDRA*

  • @Hylandra

If you want to make game videos, FRAPS is a screen recorder that can record both outgoing sound and incoming voice, check it out!

  • that sucked

  • @PlanetNick01

I would think the best way if using a mixer (depending on what type etc) would be to feed the mixer out into the line in on the sound card.

If the mic needs phantom power you could use a small pre amp...again into line in.

Don't forget....what you hear (aka stereo mix) just mixes all the inputs so a mic on line in would replace mic in.

  • @Split10 what? lol thats confusing

  • I just wanted to ask you something... I've got a condenser mic that's an XLR, plugged into an external sound card which is then plugged into the machine via USB... Now, I've been trying my hand at this for ages, but no matter what I try, the damned thing won't work properly.. Please help? x_x

  • @losroftheday

    You can't mix 2 sources I'm afraid.

A USB soundcard is on it's own bus (route around the computer) and won't integrate with your standard PCI soundcard which is also on it own bus.

I did know a guy that got USB stuff working (I tried a USB soundcard in another video) but you get the problems when using both.

  • @Split10 I think I might have a solution. I have another condenser mic with an XLR connection, so if I run that through a sound mixer, and then run THAT through the soundcard, as well as have a stereo line of some sort run from my computer to the sound mixer, would that work?

  • In levels I simply CANNOT see my microhphone why? i am using a built in mic for my laptop btw

  • when i go to the speakers propeties idont get stereo mix in the levels

  • Right click on speakers in recording tab and select show disabled device. Walla - Stereo mix.

  • um i got compaq presario cq60 and idk where my stereo mix is... help?

  • mine was working but it stopped

  • shouting: THANK YOU!!!

  • Thank you so much

  • if you have a Dell you might just be missing stereo mix because Dell is stupid. Anyway fix the problem by going here webcastacademy (dot) net/node/1593 and getting the driver needed for it.

  • Didn't exactly help me, But Im not too sure if it was what Im looking for.

  • Thank you this was very helpful

  • I need help..

I located the problem, making it easier to help me.

The problem I have that I currently have another set of speakers that I use, and need the StereoMix to use the audio from that speaker. The microphone is already going through that speaker, but the stereomix doesn't want to use it.,

How do I change what playback device the Stereomix uses?

  • i hope thar your going to help me and reply back but u know the stero mix i did it but it doesnt have a tick with a green circle please plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz help me and reply at the soonest possiable time plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help

  • @sifcooljc

Green circle? Just enable it and set it as default!

I think that's what you mean.

  • oh my god thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much u just helped ur the only 1 who helped me i tried to search lots of videos and this is the best video 100% ture and 100% best stero mix vid

  • Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I don't have What U Hear. I only have microphone array.

  • When i try to talk trough my laptop the voice will hear like 100% after 20 seconds 20%.

  • YOU FIXED A PROBLEM I HAD WRESTLED WITH FOR 4 HOURS YOU ARE MY HERO <3333 THAAAANK YOU!

  • thank you ~

  • I'm not seeing any Stereo Mix on my Vista Home Professional :(

  • @EnNexMusic Sorry, meant to say Home Premium.

  • when I test it my mic is strarting to scream like somekind of bomb exploded right in front of me... HELP! D:

  • @Koenstuurwold0

    Using a headset?

I have warned you at the start of the video.

  • @Split10 ooh never mind, fixed :D Also split, is there maybe some kind of workaround or option to let stereomix only pick up music from itunes for example?

I want to play music in my chatroom but because stereomix picks up every sound (like people talking) its very annoying for the people in the chatroom.

  • Thanks for this video! <3

  • you saved my ass. great video!!

  • I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 running Vista. When I try to get Stereo Mix/What U Hear on my computer, I get "Internal AUX Jack". When I try to enable it, it says it's unplugged. I need help? Do you know a solution to my problem?

  • Tnx

  • I use to be able to do both but stopped recording things for a while. Decided to make a game tutorial and noticed I couldn't do both anymore. Something weird happened and I haven't updated anything so I'll see if I can fix it DX

  • I always seem to run into this kind of problem. I set up my stereo mix and mic perfectly, however whenever I use stereo mix, I can hear the audio/music perfectly, however my own voice with the mic is always very little and hard to hear. Do you know how I can make my voice louder. I already set my microphone level to be 100 and Mic in the Speaker's configure also to be at 100. I am dumbfounded and unabled to fix this problem for over a year now.

  • @hero20902

Do you have a mic boost that you may be able to turn on.

If you do it will be on the RECORDING tab > MICROPHONE properties > custom tab.

Even though the microphone volume on that tab doesn't make any difference when its set to "MIX" the mic boost does!

  • Good JOB!

  • im getting tick off. i use to have stero mix. ive tried everything. the only thing i could think of is that when i plug in my headset for some reason the stero mix vanished. its not there. its like it dosent even exist. it dosent make senses. any advice we be greatful :/

  • @REDLucky

It can't just disappear by itself....something has changed.

Maybe a windows update has updated the driver?

  • stereo mix dont show up at all

  • @RyanEnty

I doubt there is anything you can do apart from changing soundcards.

I was very lucky with that one and the drivers I found.

  • @RyanEnty

Windows 7 removed 'Stereo mix' but it's still possible, Xfire has an option called 'Vista Audio' and it records the PC's audio. So its possible!

Arg, I wish there was a way to add Vista Audio" to the 'recording devices' list. Such a DICK move on Microsofts part.

  • @MarticusApocalypse I have win 7 and it works...

  • @Iomegadrive1

Doesnt work if you have Win7 and are using an HD Audio drivers setup instead of AC97.

When I used my motherboards AC97, stereomix was there, when i rewired my connections to HD audio, it wasn't.

  • lol i only needed the first minute of this vid :D.....(show disabled ) then enabled stereo mix and now i can do what i was looking for which is recording from the pc itself

    thx :D

  • This is the most helpful vid ive watched so far about this, but it still, doesnt work for me... i got stereo mix, and when i watc the vid the green things is going up, means it works right? but i just cant record sound, i have no idea why, im so frustrated. please u got anything that might help?

  • @ONeLoUdStriKE

What are you using to record with?

If your recorder is not using the same source (mix in this case) then it won't record.

The thing about Vista and Windows 7 is you can't change stuff on the fly and Apply.

Try it set to mix and then start your recorder (for audio I'd use Audacity) and see if that works.

  • @Split10 Thanks for the quick answer thogh i think i got it now, the thing was that i simply just needed to change from "Stereo Mix" to "What U Hear" :s , tho i got a new problem, the audio wont sync with the video, and there is nothing to do about it sence even the recorders webbpage (wegame) doesnt know how to fix it.

  • :( cant find it

  • I want stero mix however in my vista i dont see this when i select show hidden devices :/ any help?

  • Thank You!!!!!!!!!!! I fuckin disable all my choices and dindt know how to get it back

  • Thanks for the help!! (why the heck is vista so different from windows 7 and xp :/)

  • @EmpireAtWarVideos

That's the question that many have thought about, but there is a 45 minute video out there that explains why the audio stack was moved in Vista.

In XP a buggy sound card driver could can crash it, but by moving the audio stack in Vista and so on that shouldn't happen.

There are other changes also, but that was the main reason hence the change.

If I can find that video I shall add a link to the title of this, but it's long and boring.

  • So you're screwed if you can't do both?

  • u sound like ur chewing on something is it true? just asking

  • @Split10 but i have no stereo mix .... how to get it plzZ help me waiting for your reply

  • @HaCKeRz7UmEr

Maybe your sound card doesn't support it.

As I said in the video, I was "lucky" to find an old set of beta drivers for that card that had it, but that's a solution that will only work for one sound card I know of.

I'm afraid I can't guess what your using!

  • @HaCKeRz7UmEr It might be called "Rec. Playback"

  • ah thx

  • i dont have that in levels D: only speakers volume :|

  • Thnks bro Gud looks

  • Help, i only have Microphone Array and Line-in!!!

  • WHY I HAVE NO STERO MIX !!!

  • Thanks Heaps!!

  • thnx a lot.. what a big help.. god speed

  • his voice sounds like hes chewing on a piece of bread when hes talking

  • @notphatmageWins

Strange your the only one out of over 100,000 people that thinks so..

Ever considered getting your hearing checked?

  • @Split10 Woah, don't get mad... It was a joke... 90 percent of old australian men are born with that horrid ass voice that sounds like they are eating something while talking

  • @notphatmageWins

    Australian?

You really should get your ears checked.

I am British..southern England.. (tho I can do an Aussie impersonation)

  • I only have Microphone and Microphone Array

  • Good video, it's a shame you played Bic Runga at the end though... destroyed it for me

  • @robert000ooo

It's not a bad track IMO.

You was meant to learn from the video only, and hey Sony have plastered an add on cos I used that track :(

  • @Split10 hahah I know just kidding. Hey I have a question... When I enable stereomix in my recording devices, it doesn't pick up any sound at all. I've tried disabling the speakers and stuff, i've tried everything. I CAN get stereomix working, but it won't pick up any sound. Got any tips?

  • So what your saying is that if i do not have the icon i am missing a component on my soundcard and its not a driver problem?

  • @xshalludiex

If you don't have mix (what U hear) then I doubt a driver change will give it to you, though I have one card that I managed to get it using an old beta driver......very rare I'm afraid.

If you don't have the mic control on the playback > speakers tab then I'm afraid it's never going to work (from what I've seen)

  • @Split10 Ah that sucks. Oh well thanks for answering my question. I have been trying to get the answer to it for 4 days now. At least i know where i stand =)

  • I have no stero mix icon, can you help?

  • Thanks, this helped loads :)

  • Great tips, thank you. Just switched from XP, Stereo Mix always showed up before as a recording device in XP. In Vista, I wasn't aware that they would disable it by default. Right-clicking on the list of recording devices allowed the opportunity to list ones that were disabled, Stereo Mix being one of them. Thanks for the tutorial, it was easy to find out by your help what I needed to do.

  • how do u install "what u hear" ?

  • my stereo mix is not showing up, how do you i tell what type of sound card i have to download a driver for it, or if you would suggest that i do something else to solve this problem let me know.

  • Thank you so much Sir..

  • thanks, I forgot how to do it

  • man really really thanks i was spending all day looking for stereo mix thanks

  • thanks so much

  • dude thx alot this really helped!

  • @SPKord Yes thats normal, and you will get used to it.

  • I have a Dell XPS 1530 with the following driver: Sigmatel High Defintion audio Codec

( Stereo Mix is not a option with this setup)

When i go to the dell web site they have a list of recommended drivers for my laptop.

SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio << is one of these drivers. I wonder if this download will give me Stereo mix without messing up the regular sound. Any help would be appreicated.

  • Do I need a sound card to record sound from games on my computer?

  • MY SPEAKER ICON ISN'T THERE

    HOW DO I FIX IT?!?!?!

MY SOUND STILL WORKS, BUT I CAN'T CHANGE THE VOLUME, AND (im on a laptop) MY BATTERY ICON IS GONE TOO!!!

    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

  • @pug1134

Right click in the taskbar and select properties.

Click on the notification area tab.

You will see system icons....put a tick in volume and Apply

  • i had stereo mix, but since i re-installed windows i no longer have it?

  • @Brandonbb10

That would depend on what sound card you have, and if it's just working now from generic drivers in Vista or whether it needs some other drivers from the cards / chip manufacturer.

  • its all good now, i insatlled some new drivers and now i have stereo mix back :)

  • hey, I tickes on show disabled devices, but nothing like stereo mix/what u hear or wave out mix appear. Only the 1st item "Microphone" is there. I wanna enable stereo mix. Help me please.

  • shame doesnt work for me, using "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" as a sound card on a laptop, so, i guess the sound card is the problem :(

  • i dont get it beacuse it wont show up on mine its integrated and also ive updated drivers

  • Well I'm afraid the only real fix is a new sound card.

Depends if you have laptop or desktop I guess.

I've tried external and it works but it can echo :(

  • i dont get that i get speaker vol and pc beep

  • I'm afraid you prolly won't ever get mix on that sound card :(

  • how to get a (WHAT U HEAR ) its not appear in my recordings pls help!

  • I'm afraid as said in video....some cards (most these days) have it and a few don't.

I was very lucky with this card that I got it to show using old beta drivers, but very rare that's going to happen I'm afraid.

I still have the problem today of recommending sound cards that will work.

Most I have will, but it won't on my daughters laptop.

Same in Window 7 also :(

  • TYYYYY

  • So what if my stereo mix is enabled, but i want to disable it without buying new components, what do i do?

  • thanks alot dude that helped. what was that song at the end?

  • Sway by Bic Runga.....honest

  • hi there, ive spent like 2 hours trying to get my driver - to allow the what u hear option to come on. But sadly it wont - even with the show disconnected device thing etc...

By simple solution would be if you could tell me what sound card type you have, the operating system type and any other sound components- maybe that way i could change mine for it to finally work.

    please do reply.

    Thanks

  • This in on Vista.

The card I used in this video was the Creative PCI sound blaster Audigy SE 7.1 BUT I had to use old beta drivers to give me mix (what you hear) and I turned on the mic boost in the registry (could be fiddly for some people).

I would recommend a second hand card from ebay such as the SB0460.

I know for a fact that card works in Vista and has boost etc (look at my other videos)

In the UK I would expect to get one for £30 incl P&P and its much better card than I used here.

  • i dont have what you hear option??? help

  • Everything worked fine. Thank you. But your speech is so difficult to understand. I chose to follow your graphics instead

  • thank

  • Thanks a lot, it helped!

  • thank you! you're awesome!

  • I was trying to get it show up in order to play Star Wars Battlefront 2, I was going crazy trying to figure out a way to make it show. The problem was that I had no mic connected to the computer. Mic in, Stereo Mix on, SWBF2 works

  • For those of you who don't get the mix icon to show: For most there will be nothing you can do apart from changing your soundcard.

In some rare instances a different driver "may" fix it, but it's rare.

Newer isn't always better tho. I got mix in this video using an old beta driver.

To the person who wanted to record in game..your prolly stuck unless your very lucky with a driver.

Soundcards are not dear, but it's difficult knowing what to buy that has mix features in vista :(

  • Yea, my stereo mix isnt comin up. So wtf should i do?

  • i do also have the problem with icons that dont come up. can i fix this by buying a new sound card or something like that?

does it also mean i cant record sounds on my pc? i have tried to record in-game sounds for weeks now but with no results. im very confused right now :(

  • Oh man, jolly good thing I found your video.. I'd been having a hell of a time, tryin' to figure out my recording stuff. Now I can do it, thanks mate!

  • Y dont go straight to the point! wer can we get d stereo mix!!!

  • the Stereo Mix icon didn't show ??!! please help me im tired

  • I'm afraid it's not that easy.

If the mic icon didn't show if you followed the video you may well have one of the sound cards / chips that just doesn't have it.

I managed to get it on this card by using an old driver, but it's going to be very rare that works.

  • You sound like TheUnforgiving

  • I'm not familiar with that.....is that good or bad?

  • Good.

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh u right

  • erm...my line in and auxilery aint showing up, please can you help
