  • This commercial is from the mid-to-late 70s. I remember they re-made this commercial in the 80s, literally - there were all new actors, but the exact same soundtrack! The mother and the kids simply moved their lips to the original dialog - it was weird

  • According to The Hub's "Family Game Night" program, the guy's name is Sam for "Operation" games.

  • I hated that damn "pencil" bone, buzzzzz, every friggen time :(

  • This was a nerve racking game. They should re-release this and call it the Medi-Care game.

  • I make radio shows for fun sometimes.

    Everybody does it.

    E-everybody I kn--SHUT UP.

  • children's hospital s03ep06

  • Family Guy, s3e22

  • this game use to scare the crap out of me when I was younger.... till I actually played it

  • They played this commercial in Canada, too. I always thought the mother/woman had a rather British accent ("may I play?" and "ohperate?!?!")

  • whos idea was it to make a game where little kids touch a naked man with tweezers?

  • @winmuch You're right about that. They used to have a naked man where the patient's body fat covered up his groin (just like Peter Griffin in Family Guy). However, in recent years they decided to make the game a little more decent by giving the patient boxers. LOL! It is more appropriate to to wear boxers than to have a fat naked man that children play with. With obesity becoming a growing problem, we can't just ignore the big guy as "The man's fat because he's a clown" anymore.

  • I would always run and scream when the buzzer goes off

  • Folks, I say this commercial about every 2-3 months to people, It infected me and still won't let go..... Buttahfingers.. anytime anyone is clumsy when they say they don't remember it, it's like a shot to the gut!..how can anyone not remember this., you would be surprised! We are getting old....

  • Yes, this for some reason is one of the most quotable commercials of the 70's. "TAKE out his SPARE ribs for ONE hundred DOLLARS."

  • I've been saying "Buttahfinga's" and "It takes a very steady hand" and "May I play?" for 35 years and now my 10 yr old daughter says them. I thought it would be fun to show her the "source material." Thanks YouTube.

  • she did say "can I have a go?"

  • I was sure the mom @ the end said "can I have a go" maybe it was another version or completely different add!!!

  • BUTTA-FINGUZZ!!!

  • If there was one commercial that was included on the golden phongraph record sent with the Voyager spacecraft, I hope that it was this one. As glango said, the cadences of the speech are bizarrely infectuous. I would like to imagine a distant civilization getting these words stuck in their heads. And cursing us for it, of course.

  • @steveasat2 That's very good. Now you're catching on. (Jiminy Cricket quote introducing Old Yeller song.)

  • I'm still looking for the older Operation commercial with the funky electric guitar music.

  • I love the pacing of this commercial, it just sort of oozes along. And everyone's so polite: the applause, mom asking permission... Haven't stopped using some of these phrases (with the same cadence!) since I was a child, namely "don't touch the sides" and especially "buttahfinguhhhs".

  • oh no she caught me

  • Wow! Flashback to Saturday morning cartoons!!!

  • I played this when i was younger! it was easy to lose the pieces though

  • I wonder how many surgeons got their idea for a career this way.

  • @PetePuma00 Just recently I was thinking the same thing.

  • "Don't touch the sides!" BZZZZ! Ah, memories.

  • this was my favorite game: OPERATE!!!!
