Can anyone answer why don't Royal Marines do push-ups on their knuckles? I mean it would be way more efficient to test their endurance and pain tolerance.
@AequusMihi because they dont feel that kind of pain in the feild, climing rope running, walking with kid, it all relates to what they would be doing in a combat situation. knuckle pushups don't give any of that bennifit and for the amount of pushups they do last thing you need is to be oped out from a broken finger from doing pushups. dimond pushups, widearm pushups, and regualr pushups all work different minor mussle groups they all have a bennifit.
Easy question: Royal Marines don't do knuckle push ups because of the possibility of damage to knuckles and fingers. In the Royal Marine your hands are a vital role in all aspects of combat from using a weapon to using a knife. Why do you think one of our nicknames is the word 'Booty?' I'll tell you, a Royal Marine can just as easily kick a man to death as he can fist fight. Scuffing your boots is better than losing skin off your fingers :-)
@TheMarinemachine Well after around 2 years of karate I didn't lose skin of my knuckles because of push ups... And if anyone wanted to kick a guy to death they can go to Muay Thai.
Missed my point there slightly. Perhaps it was my fault! What I'm trying to tell you that the Royal Marines philosophy is that your hands are more important than your feet. Example, if I lose my leg/legs in an explosion I can still strap up the stumps and carry on squeezing the trigger on my weapon. If I lose my hands or damage them I can't do much apart from wait for a medic. The ideology is that your hands are your most valued asset.
@TheMarinemachine Oh. I understand. You see I never actually put any interest in Royal Marines or anything. Of course I have enough common sense to understand that the loss of hands renders them incapable of doing their job. I always fought in street fights all my life. I'm a bit unlucky you might say. So I always use my feet more than fists. Because I can confuse them with knee attacks while successfully displacing their jaw with my fist.
@AequusMihi No problem. May I ask which art you are studying? I've been, for the last three years, trying to master Krav Maga. I know it's very basic but it works well with my work.I originally started out with kickboxing. After my mother died my father remarried and my step mother's brother Jose held the world championship belt for a year and got me into the sport. Previous to this I studied Shorinji Kempo and attained my black belt in 2003.
@TheMarinemachine At the moment I am still studying/learning Shin-kyokushin kaikan. I already learned Muay Thai. I studied Muay Thai for 4-5years. I am thinking about jiu-jitsu right now. But I don't really know if I need it...
@TheMarinemachine yeh you mostly right htere, the 1st 9 weeks you dont do it because your int he gym, but once your in bottom field and doing man phys on grass you do it, more of a killer on the arms. there called bootys from bootnecks, form tht piece of leather they used to wear round their necks, but i still agree with ya, still able to kick a man to death :D
@rigby0105 Correcta Mundo, It was actually the top of a leather sea boot lopped off and wrapped around their necks to stop them getting their throats slit from behind. Well that's what we were told, however my Sgt liked to think it was all the good kickings Royals had dished out over our long and illustrious history. When were you in Rigby?
@TheMarinemachine not in yet, done my prmc but my recruiter whos a hornblower is takinghte piss, sayin theres like 6 month waiting lost for a star date. makes me wanna be sick lol, just spedning my days racking up the miles boredout my mind.
@rigby0105 Sorry to hear that! Hey ever thought about the FFL. Loads of us old school went through the Legion at some point. Good start on the RM when you get back....5 years though. I'd go back tomorrow lol. I think 2 rep are in Afghanistan at the moment...I think!!

@TheMarinemachine lmaoo nah mate id rather eat my own shit than work for the french :) nothin against you like but just not for me, green lid is what i want :) ffl do most ops in like the congo and old french colonial afriocan countries dont they?
@rigby0105 I only asked cause the RM tore my arm off when they found out I'd served in the FFL. Was a bit of a celeb for yonks....mind you later on I tended to get pinged for anything slightly dangerous lol. Remember only 1 in 6 for the RM, keep your napper down and keep going. Do us a fav mate, tell Thommo Mac says he's still a wanker if he's still at CTCRM, but wait until you've passed out before you tell him yeh? Can't miss him he's an old ginger napper lol. Take care chap.
@TheMarinemachine lmao cheers gaffa, yeye be the grey man cant do with telegraphing. mny mate dropped out week 26, then joined again a year later and passed out. while in training he was pinged for loads of shit jobs and never done anything good enough and just got loads of stick lol. but yeye ill slate him for yoi when i pass out :D all the best.
@starkyliam What about it? The training for the Royal Marines Commandos is a lot tougher and much longer than that of the USMC; they are incomparable for that matter.
@Sevenoneight7 And yet the USMC has a better standing military record than the Royal Marines Commandos. So....yeah, I guess they are incomparable, the USMC is obviously better.
@TheArmydude050290 I have served alongside both the RMC and USMC on Operation Herrick, I spoke with a few 0311 who had been on the AACC with the Royal Marines and they said it was far more difficult. It's a whole different ideology in the Royal Marines, they're trained as an elite infantry force just below special forces - which is why there's only around 9,000 of them and the pass rate is just 1 in 6 at basic training, USMC is much higher in both figures because the training is shorter & easier
Indeed, these push-ups are great!! Personally, I like to do a set of incline diamond push-ups to the point of exhaustion.... then a set of these. Incline diamond push-ups is where you place BOTH your feet on a chair or equivalent at least 1&1/2 ft high or more, then place your hands on the floor in the diamond position.... and while KEEPING your body straight as a board you begin to do the push-ups. Notice, in order to do these properly(&no back pain) you MUST keep your body straight!!

@Baseshocks Knuckle push ups strengthen your wrists so you are less likely to break them when fighting hand-to-hand.
