I always hated that last apple! Apparently, my GCN disc must have had a glitch or something because whenever I collected the last apple, died, got it again and finished the level, I would only have 3 apples. Eventually, when I got through the last part without dying, I got 100% completion. But that glitch was very annoying.

@pokemario6456 Other thing: I've found it's much easier to kill the bat if you butt-bounce it from the first moving platform; it can take a while, but it's easier than flip-kicking it.

On the PS2 there is once again a weird glitch here but it is very rare. In the maze, if you get bit by a spider WHILE YOUR REV ROLLING IT, you become stuck in the ground. You cant get out andif you wait for about,6 or 7 minuets, you die in Pac Man's falling animation.

So THATS where the final apple is! This is the first time ive ever seen truly where it is (Everyone ELSE is also clueless) but I always thought it was in a bat though- wrong bat though.

Most of the bats come low enough at one point in their orbit such that you can flipkick them by pressing jump and rev-roll at the same time, which is usually a lot easier to time and you don't get hit as often. They probably thought you would flipkick every bat to get the highest score possible since there's no galaxian maze to boost your score by 14K or so.
