I care not where a particular musician rates on the scale of "let's make music unnecessarily a competitive sport even though it's not" because if it appeals to my better sense of audibility then I'll be the first to tout it as such.

This guy is amazing because his playing invokes me to a state other than the contemplation of who's better or worse and my insecure need to live, boast or bash vicariously through other's achievements.

I do respect Allan Holdsworth as a player and think he is phenomenal, but.... Pat Metheny is at a much higher level than pretty much everybody. watch him play "all the things you are" live in 1980 about 4:40 in. his soloing is just out of this world. I mean.... he was teaching at berkley at the age of 18! lol

is that an Eventide you are using? either way, I was wondering what delay settings you were using. David Gilmour is one of my favs and your playing, although much faster than sir daves' has that really nice tone that he gets out his delay and reverb settings. My tiny Casio Exilim ESX-600 digital camera is half the thickness of a pack of cigarettes and smaller in every dimension. So I was able to put it under a coat with just enough of an opening for the lens. the coat was on a chair next to mine. John(the guitar player)was not aware of me video recording him while he improvised.

I think it's a little unfair to call him the "World's Greatest Unknown Guitar Player". It's all a matter of opinion, as with most things. There very well may be a another kid in your state who is better than your friend...it's just not something that you know for sure.

However, the playing was definitely superb. Wonderful phrasing, clean, nice licks, great improvising. Just overall wonderful.

There is no doubt that he is an excellent player.

its a Traveler guitar.. they're custom. the tuners are at the bottom of the guitar. and the strings go across the whole body..

Yes, John was looking at me not knowing that I was video taping him. I was listening to him warm up with this improvisation on this piece. I velcroed a small camera to one side of my jacket and camoflauged it a bit. That is why most of the video is not centered. Thanks.
