The Blood Red Road is one of the best book's i've ever read. I just finished it a couple days ago! But it's hard to understand at times

I think TFiOS might be cancer book you can handle. Hazel is definitely not hating on life. It's super uplifting even though it's also sad. It's a celebration of life for sure!
