I've owned both. I came from a family that drove nothing but rangers. I'm tired of doing maintenance just to keep a Ford running. 100k miles hit and you're gonna be replacing alot just to keep the truck running. My 07 tacoma is 80k miles now with nothing more than a u-joint failure. I will never buy a ranger again.

I would imagine that it is a smart idea to upgrade the axles if you're going to be running 38" on low pressure? I couldn't imagine any 1/4 truck possessing the axle strength to accommodate such a size tire. Most Wrangler's I see rockin 38"+, or even smaller, have dana 44's.

The Tundra's frame isn't weak. It may be a little pliable, but that doesn't mean it's weak. If you're pissin on it because it bends more than a boxed frame, then kudos. But as far as breaking strength, it's like comparing steal to kevlar. Steal won't bend as easily as kevlar, but kevlar will absorb impact because it's not so stiff.

Watch Ford "F-150 suspension test" on here. It compares all the new light truck when going over bumps at a faster speed. You'll see how pliable the frame really is!

Oh yeah I've seen that video numerous times and to me, it doesn't mean a thing. Seriously, what does it show? How much the frame flexes and makes the bed wobble and scratch the paint on the cab? Does anyone even know what is so bad about that? If the frame flexes, then it is less likely to break because the flexing is what absorbs impact, helping to reduce breakage. That is good for heavy weights. But for true offroading, where you need vehicle integrity, then it's bad.

I think a stiff frame is better in every situation. The suspension is supposed to do the absorbing over bumps, not the frame and body. Frame flex like that causes cracks to form at body welds/seems.

But you know what? If you look at heavy duty applications, such as class 8 semi trucks and their trailors, they all have 'C" channel frames or "I" beams for some trailors and it is to allow bend over a large portion of the frame to reduce the chance of instant breakage. Again boxed frames are better suited for offroading where you want impact and weight absorbtion ONLY in the suspension.
