  • This is no "film by John Cassavetes" in the way the films are in which he directed, although he seems to have had a hand in the direction of this film as well. And this is no film in the "Cassavetes style" either, but a film influenced a lot by him. This is an Elaine May-film. Watch "The heartbreak kid" and you'll see this same unique, witty, slow, dreamlike direction of dialogue. May is to Cassavetes I think what Parajanov is to Tarkovsky: A unique genius inspired greatly by another one.

  • GREAT SCENE, thank you Peter Falk, thanks for posting this movie...

  • RIP Legend

  • RIP Peter Falk

  • R.I.P Peter Falk...this is a great scene.

  • Well, I see everyone here praises Cassavetes but almost no one says anything about Peter Falk. :-(

Peter Falk is one of my favorite actors (I have several xD).

    Sorry for my bad English.

  • Elaine May directed this film; she is using the Cassavetes style

  • Wow. This is an excellent movie. That scene alone has so much more to it than entire hollywood films.

  • Almosts puts Shakespeare in the shade; doesn't it remind you of other thoughtful moments in the graveyard?

  • Flawless

  • Just read on my news earthlink news service that Peter has been diagnosed with Alzthimers and dementia.

The angels are watching over you...Compenyero.

  • Cassavetes is one of Scorcese's biggest influences and is equally talented but has much less critical acclaim. He deserves to have a few films on the AFI top 100 too. A mass audience has yet to embrace him though when they do I'm sure he'll become even more revered than he already is.

  • what an awesome movie this was.....so comforting to know others agree...

  • It is. As amazing a director as Cassavetes was, he was also a consummate actor.

  • awesome

  • I've never seen this movie but it kind of reminds me of "Mean Streets."

  • Ha. He's wearing the Columbo outfit.

  • Funny how I was just watching Jaco Pastorius youtube, and one of the suggestions right over the main window took me right here....been a long time since I've seen this...hey..I still have my original Woman under the Influence poster!

  • btw--my friend played with Jaco in the eighties and said he was an asshole...

  • Wow, this is just amazing. These guys are so real. The script is so gorgeous...

  • It´s quite a dark movie in theme, Nick is a fuck-up with a price on his head.

  • Thanks for posting this...I never saw this movie but it's great seeing Falk and Cassavetes together post-Columbo! Anyone else who's a fan of Cassavetes as an actor...there's a great scene of him in "Whose Life Is It Anyway" that is posted here on YouTube.

  • On the DVD Talk site it says:

"In the beginning, Cassavetes was doing some of the shooting himself, which resulted in dailies where dozens of film rolls screened with no image on them at all!"

  • "In the beginning, Cassavetes was doing some of the shooting himself, which resulted in dailies where dozens of film rolls screened with no image on them at all!"

    Classic!

I'm definitely buying the dvd, especially for the bonus material.

    Thanks again.

  • Love this movie, especially the scene where Falk's watch is broken.

    Cassavetes directed scenes? Which ones?

Please upload some of the special features! The DVD isn't available in Australia.

  • Nah, he took over Director of Photography for a while after May had driven the one she'd originally hired crazy with ridiculous demands (Note: I adore and respect Elaine May). It's all in the special features. Get a region-free DVD player my friend. Not hard or expensive in the age of the internet. Cheers.

  • "Can't believe I found this on Youtube!!!"

    neither can i!

arf gees...i'm gonna have to buy it, 'cause if i wait for french subtitles i'm gonna waste many years! tanx so much for the upload kogler. :)

  • You've got good taste.

Not sure if I want to past more of it. Buy the dvd. It has excellent bonus material (ie when they talk about the scenes that were directed by Cassavetes)

  • Can't believe I found this on Youtube!!! One of my favorite movies ever. One of the best scenes! Can you post any other scenes???
