Everyone who speaks in tongues and does not follow the guidelines layed out in 1Corinthians 14 is disobeying God. It seems evident (to me anyway) that most who speak in tongues are not in control, they aren't orderly, they don't know what they are saying and if they have an interpreter they can't verify that the interpreter is interpreting correctly.

So, to overcome the flesh, you can take a fast. Remove some things from your diet. Every time you want them, refuse. Instead, pray again for this gift. Tell the flesh to stand aside.

Go to a church where real healings and works evident of the Holy Spirit exist. Ask the women to pray for you.

Actually I don't believe in tongues at all the way that they are used today. I have a good friend and he turned into a total fruit cake due to his UPC's teachings. I attended the church and liked the preacher but don't believe in tongues. I was told that I had the holy spirit all over me until they found that I did not believe in tongues. How is that? I think that tongues is a gift and not everyone gets the gift. I also think that tongues was used at pentecost as a language which was discernable by interpratation. I find it impossible to believe that the only way for salvation is to be babtized in the Holy Spirit with proof being the speaking of tongues. The way to salvation is believing in Jesus Christ as your savior. Proof of my salvation is not tongues. Why would I speak in an unknown tongue and speak words which cannot be interpreted?

Pray for holy friends and Holy Relationships. I do not defend religions or individual churches. I have seen false speaking in tongues and true tongues. I don't know about your former church.

The Bible does not say tongues ceased. You better start reading daily so that doctrines like that will not lead you astray.

we need more people like you that are willing to submit to the Spirit.. I've been praying in tongues for about a year now and in that i have been letting God deal with a lot of things in my life. what could be better than letting God the Holy Spirit pray a perfect prayer through us for our own personal edification and being used in intersession! No... the forces of darkness- Satan and the demons- were trying to kill two Christian boys. This effort was going on for a few months, and had been successful in killing the youth in Sacramento.
