The are acting loutishly because their feelings were hurt by the critical mauling. They tried to make a film about "what's really going on" when their success in film has probably made them more detached from the man in the street. The irony is that Dyer has won rave reviews for his performances in Pinter plays and Love has written and directed some good, sensitive films like Goodbye Charlie Bright and The Firm- which did less well than his thug movies.
