when i was a young white tween growing up in 60s suburban los angeles, i was fed the usual distortions about him. Now that i finally have the chance to digest what he really said (thank you posters), i think he described the oppression of Black America like no one has before or since. He died far too soon, on the threshold of doing his greatest work. Looking at his clips now, i think his comments for the most part described the state of things exactly--fairly, and justly.
