It even goes further back than the Tsarists period I think - if you notice the wigs the male dancers are wearing for example, I would say the designer was influenced by Louis the fourteenth or something of the sort. By the way I've seen this production many times and even was lucky enough to watch Sofiane in it!! I still miss her at The Dutch National Ballet and hope to see her as a guest performer sometime soon again!!!
It wasn't her feet that "sold" me (although they are beautiful, almost as good as Sylvie Guillem's) but her arms: the way they're held low, in a submissive, shy sort of way. And stop bitching about her costume! I love it. It's shape reproduces the authentic Tsarist silhouette of the original 1890 production, I'm sure that's what the designer was aiming for. Very flattering.
@passionofpersephone True about her costume- their costumes department knows a lot about fashion in history and tries to tie that into their costumes (:
omg, she is so amazing but one thing i did notice was with her pirouette's, right before she takes off, she turns in a whole bunch. the only reason i noticed that though was because my teacher has been getting on my case lately for doing that! teehee :)
actually.....she moves her supporting leg ever so slightly. The "turning in" you are referring to is actually when she is already beginning her turn. If she left it where it was and then proceeded to move her upper body around in the pirouette she would've dislocated her knee cap. She does move it SLIGHTLY but NOT a whole bunch. And since she is a teacher of mine I would have say your judgement or critique is only a half truth.
In generale, questa ballerina non mi entusiasma, soprattutto in questa parte. Mi sembra tozza e sbilanciata; capisco che la variazione possa essere molto difficile, ma ci sono allieve delle scuole di ballo che saprebbero fare molto meglio!
She's lovely in this! A perfect Aurora. =] She has fantastic control, rolling down en pointe in the beginning. And her triple pirouettes are so flawless--I love how she has time to gaze out to the audience instead of spotting the last time around. =]
i learned this last night...so hard...so many blisters...and a dead pair of shoes. from only three hours of dancing. i don't know how she does it.

She has the longest (and most graceful) arms I've ever seen. Seriously, her arms look longer then her legs.

I can't get over this! She NEVER falters, jiggles, quivers, or sways in the wrong direction. Absolutely AMAZING!

All I have to say is, Pointe Work WHATTTT!!!
That was beauty beyond words. All ballerinas should take note, this is how you roll through your toes.

This is up there as one of the best Aurora variations I have ever seen. She is so controlled yet lyrical and beautiful!
