Actually DART started it's rail service in 1996. No one can really answer why it's not a level-boarding system. The new SLRV has a level boarding low floor for MI, stroller and bicycle passengers.
Is DART one of the first light rail systems in the US? I look at 0:04 and notice that there are steps onto the train, whereas most light rail systems now, Minneapolis, Charlotte, Seattle...have "low floor" trains that are level with the platform. Just found it interesting.
@bearchoirfan According to Kinki Sharyo, Toyo Denki AC motors with IGBT inveters on 68 of the cars, AEG (AdTranz) AC motors with GTO inverters on 95 cars.
I think DART connects Dallas to Dublin.

The engine (motor) sounds to be a Hitachi or TDK, both Japanese.

2010, they've built most of the bridge around royal. they're building it extremely fast. it looks really nice now.
