  • Even though I'm not into this genre of music I have to say that it is indeed utterly incredible.

  • I have seen this video countless times and it CONTINUES to amaze me every, single, time!

What a amazing player and by far one of the most beautiful tones (of any instrument) I have ever heard.

  • Mind Blown!!!

  • Magnifique! I just caught him (for the first time) on Legrand Jazz on HIFI in concert with Michel Legrand and will follow him forever! Incroyable!!

  • i clicked on "like" after 30 seconds of listening.

  • Nardis!

  • Sylvain Luc is just such a beast of musicality, sensitivity and technique !

To me, no one comes close.

This video has been a revelation.

    Thanks a lot !

But how come the other strings don't come out of tune after lowering the A and E string one octave ?!! Any clue anyone ?

  • freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One m0:00re time, please.

  • His thumb is so fast, wow.

  • Merci pour cette video ! Sylvain Luc est juste hallucinant, j'espère qu'il va finir par sortir un album live.

Thanks for the vid ! Sylvain Luc is astonishing, I hope he will release a live album soon.

  • What I love with such videos is that what matters is the sound of it.... Even with a low video resolution, the sound is intact, and _that_ is what matters.

Now, if only Sylvain Luc put on sale FLAC-encoded sound files of his live concerts... I'd buy them all!

  • the best guitar version of Nardis I've ever ear !

  • best guitar solo ever!

  • Awesome, heard some quotes of Coltrane's "Resolution" in there!

  • fuera de serie , estte es de otra liga

  • genius, superb..

hey what is the name of this song already? damn

  • @iialves Nardis - Miles Davis

  • i can't he believe he does that with without looking at the fret

  • da paura non ho parole l'ho visto due volte dal vivo non mi stanco mai di rivederlo e dico maiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii..

  • i thought what I was witnessing here is a guy from outer space playing the Guitar....but,it turns out he is a guy from FRANCE...cheers Sylvain from India

  • Wow - what superlatives could ever give this artist the credit his dazzling blend of multi-mastery musicianship warrants? It seems he thinks 'abracadabra' and subsequently the whole world of music lies passive his hands! His playing is phenomenon.

  • Incredibile..

  • What a BEAST!

  • Attention Everyone - this is not Free Jazz, it is a song called NARDIS by Miles Davis (maybe by Bill Evans - not 100% sure on the writer). Sylvan is reallys tretching out but the form is perfect.

  • Impressionante bellezza tecnica e fantasia creativa! Waooooooo!!!!

  • I haven't exaclty followed this guys career closely but I like his music. & years ago I saw a video with him and Bireli and at that time i would have said Bireli was the better guitarist. Now I would say Sylvain has surpassed him with technique. I get the feeling that Bireli is lacking a challenge whereas Sylvain is really pushing himself. It's just an opinion, I don't know what is going on in the heads of these guys but I have never seen blisteringly tight and rhtyhmic playing like that before.

  • @TheCompleteGuitarist I think that's an excellent observation.

  • @TheCompleteGuitarist Sylvain has been mind-blowing from his very first album, containing mostly improvisations. In Piaia (1993), you can already find most of his caracteristic playing, and having followed him for years now, I don't feel he has been pushing anything but his passion to reach his current -alien- level. I would even say that Bireli seemed constantly impressed (scared?) by Sylvain while they began appearing together on stage. Might just be me ...In any case, let's enjoy...

  • @TheCompleteGuitarist

I'm not agree... Sylvain Luc always has been an amazing technician since the very first time I saw him back in 1991... I don't think Birely was a better guitarist. He was also an amazing technician and still is. He's just more understandable, because he comes from "formats" that we all know (manouche, jazz, fusion). Sylvain Luc has an immense perspective on all kind of music, and a spirit that can mix it all at light speed. He is really one of a kind!

  • That's insane...

  • possibily the best all around guitarrist. Total freedom, boiling musically, truth...

    Merci Sylvain!

  • Virtutisy but also musicality.. Awesome !

  • @MarianoGrande73 that's weird but i'd say the opposite, it doesn't go anywhere to me (great technique though but pointless to my ears)

  • @Fjord76 if you are talking about Sylvain Luc or this kind of jazz in general.. i'd say taht is only because your taste is tied down to standard music structures.. and you dont want to accept others, maybe?

i dont know. but i find Luc's music... very musical, not pointless. it is not like listening to some "shredders" just play very very fast through scales and arpeggios but not adding any other variety to what they play.

  • @idontbelieveok man my taste ain't tied down to standard music structures at all and you don't have to play guitar with a heavy metal sound to be a shredder, i just hardly feel anything when i'm listening to his music or playing...to each his own ;)

  • @Fjord76 sure, you are right.

i also dont feel anything in particular for THIS video in particular actually, feel a little bit too random XD

i prefer a little less free improvisation actually

  • @idontbelieveok This is actually a song NARDIS, by Miles Davis (or is it Bill Evans?) and yes he is improvising, but it is not "free" - he is totally on point with the form of the song. The head of the tune kicks in around 1:25. Maybe you didn't realize he was actually playing a song.

  • @crescentridge yeah, i didnt realize. but, i guess because the song itself is written in an improvisation-style way, isnt it? it sounds like that

  • @@@ exeptional feeling and rythm.. with no eyes on the single fret... !!! got a new jazzguitar idol.. :-)

  • @@@ exeptional feeling and rythm.. with no eyes on the single fret... !!! got a new jazzguitar idol.. :-)

  • Top...

  • cool

  • One of the best guitarists EVER.

  • Now, honestly, is there _any_ other guitar player with more talent than this particular guy?

I have searched a lot, but I couldn't just find a match for him... For 10 years.

To think that Britney Spears is more widely known than this guy is saddening.

  • @idletask allan holdsworth and fan gambale..

  • @jazzyosh Sorry, I know about both, and none are up to par with him.

As I said, I've been listening to jazz for 10 years, with some of a focus on guitar players since I've discovered Sylvain Luc, but no other guitar player alive today can match his musical and technical skills. It's that simple.

  • @idletask what about benson? rosenwinkel?

  • @atanaciotonyhernande Both are favorites of mine (Benson since 1973 or so) but sylvain is THE favorite.

  • Tout simplement le meilleur......;o)

  • Truly unbelievable........besides Yamashita, he's the most amazing guitarist I've ever heard on (or off) planet earth!

  • the song is nardis yes?

  • @TLPnega Sounds like it

  • @TLPnega yes

  • Excelente intérprete .

  • grandissimooooooooooooooooooo

  • Fantastic!

  • Also superb film work.

  • Superb, he must have increased Godin sales!

  • :-)

  • Is Luc the best guitar player in the world? The most complete. He masters every aspect of the instrument.

Es Luc el mejor guitarrista del mundo? El mas completo. Domina todos los aspectos del instrumento.

  • @saintmart Yes, imo he's the best guitarist in the world. I've been fortunate to meet and hear live many of the top jazz and classical players, and while I've not had this pleasure with Sylvain I can safely say no one else comes close that I've heard.

  • @ColinPRS I just got one cos I love his sound and phrasing. what a master...

  • @str4to I've got the other Godin, the 5th Avenue with one pickup, but one of these are on my shopping list. I agree a fantastic player, I've seem him live twice so far, and what a performer.

  • @ColinPRS: I would buy one, but they're out of my budget!

  • @Tezman82 You can always find the money, maybe make some sacrifices, give up drinking or smoking etc, or maybe sell an organ! It will be worth it.

  • @ColinPRS I'll take that into consideration. Thanks.

  • Assolutamente fantastico!!

  • genio

  • with the possible exception of Yamashita, this guy is the baddest badass i've ever heard.............wow, and always wow !

  • Epoustouflante version de Nardis ...

    Immense musicien ...

  • wow... such incredible playing!
