@TR4351 do you know anything about rc heli's?? when engine runs out of fuel auto rotate will not work!!!

Auto rotate is handy when your tail rotor fails.. but the main rotor still has power.. so your heli is going to spin very fast... with auto rotate you can stabalize the rotation of your heli...and if you play with auto rotate and trottle you can get most heli save at the ground without breaking your heli ( if your heli has auto rotate..otherwise you have a very bad day ;)

@55peedy Almost everything you said here was wrong. I will not bother wasting my time explaining why but you need to google "auto-rotation". I will admit, he was too low to do a successful auto rotation but he did look like he had ample head speed to at least cushion his landing if the pilot had increased collective pitch as soon as the fuel ran out. Also, I wouldn't call it much of a crash, more of a heavy landing.

@TR4351 Well I train on RC heli sims and sometimes train on landing when running out of fuel... and train on landing with no tail rotor. It's much more easy to land with auto-rotation with no tail rotor then when you ran out of fuel. If you ran out of fuel and your heli is coming down fast you can only slow it down...but it will still come down... when you have fuel but no tail rotor, it will spin very fast... but you can stop that using auto-rotate... but than your heli will fall down...

@TR4351 But you can stop that also by using your trottle... and yes you can land with auto trottle at low altitude but only when you have fuel. but this heli has no fuel so he's lucky that he's at low altitude.

And every rc heli pilot uses auto-rotation in a different way. I'm no pro...but I never crashed on a rc heli sim with auto rotate. so I don't know everything about auto-rotation...but enough to get every heli safe back at the ground;)

Nobody in their right mind would put a heli in the air like that with out making sure it had a full tank of fuel. - Looks to me the pilot had no cofidence in flying as he always pointed the heli away from him when it came towards him. he just pulled the collective off too quick! - dumb thumbs!

@Sting3733 Actually the turbine engine alone is $5,600.00 and all the rest of the helicopter runs approx. $3,000.00... A friend of mine has a large scale turbine Blackhawk that isn't even finished yet and it already has just over $10,000 into it... Another friend of mine has a 50% scale F14 Tom cat twin turbine jet with multicamera FPV set up with long range radio system and its cost is over $31,000.00... As for me, mine never top a $1,500.00 bucks as my wife would kill me if I spent more...lol

@flyurway WOW haha yeah its a typo, its a 40% scale. Its over 15 feet in length and flies at over 300mph. It runs a 4 camera FPV system with OSD, autopilot, auto home and auto landing system. Its classified as an experimental aircraft since it weighs over 105lbs. I know he has had it as high as 15K feet in altitude. Dont think he can go much higher then that without the engines cutting out on him. It takes at least 2 people to fly safely, both wearing FPV goggles. It has to many things to list..
