First off,

Police belong in schools where there is rampant drug dealing and weapons. The schools they listed aren't normal schools.

I'm not from Jane and Finch, but we have a police officer in our school (Not going to specify) and he doesn't harass the students. The police officer(s) don't harass anyone, but are a deterrent to crime in the community. You should have nothing to worry about unless you are possessing an illegal substance or doing something illegal.

I'm comfortable with the police in my school because he is there for not only my protection but the protection of the community.

You see, at jane and finch 70% of the students are garbage with virtually no future. Living here and being forced to go to school with those animals was probably the worst thing i have ever had to do. I saw drugs get sold infront of me in class. I saw huge fights with weapons.. all this savage shit.

The reason the cops arent nice in those areas is because when you hang around shitty garbage all day long you start to stink.

Police provide security and don't intimidate, if you get uncomfortable around an officer youre aware you are doing something wrong/illegal. continuation: Personally I have had nothing but positive interactions with TPS, you know the reason why? BECAUSE I AM A LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. I dont see what the problem with cops in schools are. I am a 16 year old and would feel more than comfortable with cops on school grounds. As many people have said 'if you aren't doing anything illegal - whats there to worry about?' Really parents should be the ones to teach kids right and wrongs not schools and not cops. Cops are put in place to prevent or to find the criminals that are responsible for crimes and that is what they are doing. So stop complaining and do as you are told.

I noticed all the people interviewed were people of colour. They show a fear of the police. I suggest if any cops are posted in the schools there that they are all black.

Its important the children see their brothers as the police as noble role models that instill trust & forge freindships. I live in BC where in many aboriginal reserves there are aboriginal police officers that reflect the demographics of the local area.

Remember, respect is earned, not demanded because of a badge.

I agree with you for the most part. I was the one white guy in the video. I dont trust many police in the area, but I've had bad experiences with many of them unfortuantely. I know there are good cops out there who are authentic, but 31 Division needs to reach out better to the community imo.

I don't know if that matters. Black cops are probably worse than the white counterpart. Much of the racism is internalized amongst officers of color. If we looked at history, crime-infested European communities were dissolved through actual economic development not through the police forces. However I am not terribly surprised considering that such economic development never touched indigenous communities.
